Dried out my skin

Cons:

Harsh for my skin
Expensive

Proactiv was too harsh on me and made my skin dry so I stopped using. I know that people have different reactions to products, so this may work well for others who can tolerate the harsh formula. But I do think it's too expensive. Seeing that the active ingredients listed are quite common and found in more affordable treatments, I think there's nothing special about Proactiv.

Over charged account - poor customer service.
I kept the account for over a year as a gift to my daughter. When closing the account, the customer service rep indicated I had to wait until my last payment month. I did. I was charged another two months. I called to get the issue corrected and the manager did not seemed interested in correcting the problem, only offered an very rude "sorry" saying they would not correct the issue. I have a paper trail of my payments and have filed a case against them with them with the US BBB. Because of the poor customer service, I would not recommend their product. I am reading other comments...same issue!!!!!!!

Really bad experience
First I placed my order, sent a check, that was cashed quickly, but I never received the product. I called after one month and 10 days, they said that they were enable to process my order and didn't explain why. I was told that a refund check had been sent to me, so I went on and purchased another brand at my local drugstore. two months from the date that I sent Proactive my order/check, I called again to see where my refund was, and they told me that they decided to cancel the refund and send me the kit. Guess what, first I don't want it anymore, and I still waiting, it has been almost 3 months since I placed my order. No I do not recommend this product.

Works for me

Pros:

Clears acne
Doesn't dry my face

Cons:

Another cleanser might be more effective

A lot of people say how proactive is a scam and how it makes acne worse if you stop using it. Well, duh, of course acne would be worse if you stop using any acne product, because the thing about acne, is you have to use acne products consistently. I think that acne would come back after stopping the use of any benzoyl peroxide product. I started proactive about a year ago, and I stopped using it 3 months ago, and just started using it again (i stopped using it 3 months ago because I was travelling and didn't bring it with me). So yes, after I stopped using it, my face was a disaster. But I think that it's only because I didn't use ANY acne products for like a week, and washed my face once a day with regular soap. My face was a disaster, yes, and later on I got it in control with benzac ac 5%, which is the only thing I with BP that I could find while I was travelling out of country. But I really think that any acne products require consistent use, and of course, if you quit, acne will probably come back (unless you grew out of it). And also, I must admit, that I use a whole lot more of the repairing treatment than just a "thin layer". I use a moderate amount of it, just like Dan recommends (using benzoyl peroxide). Also, the toner has glycolic acid, which is an AHA and helps give the skin a clear texture and sometimes even helps white heads. I'm not sure about the cleanser though, because right now I also started experimenting with oxy 10% benzoyl peroxide cleanser to see if that would be more effective than the proactiv 2.5% benzoyl peroxide cleanser. I also am experimenting with 2% salicylic acid cleansers right now and combining them with proactiv toner and repairing treatment. I don't order proactiv on their site; I buy it at the mall. They actually have a little stand at my mall and I can buy proactiv for cash, and they have a person there recommending how to use proactiv and stuff. So I'm not just buying it from a machine, and I'm not ordering it online. If you want to get proactiv, be sure to check their website for their selling locations. It might be at a mall near you, and that way you can get it right away in person instead of ordering it and having them bill you every month. I wouldn't recommend ordering on their website, but if you have to order it online, just order it from amazon. That way you won't get billed extra or anything. And I recommend using more of the repairing treatment on your face than they recommend. Use a moderate amount of the repairing treatment. Also, a good thing is, is that it doesn't really dry my face. I know a lot of people say that it dries their face, but idk, it doesn't dry mine. Perhaps my face got used to 5% benzac ac over the summer (and that did dry my face), and now my face is relaxing because proactiv has only 2.5% benzoyl peroxide. But, I remember when I used it in may and the whole year last year, I did not really need to put on any moisturizer at all. maybe only occasionally. I think this is because the repairing treatment combines benzoyl peroxide with moisturizer. Idk though. Might work for some but not for others. Here is my recommendation on proactiv: -Not sure about the cleanser. You could try it. Other cleansers may be more effective, but really depends on your skin. Try experimenting with the cleanser, if you don't like it, then experiment with other cleansers. -Toner is good. I like it because it has glycolic acid and might help get rid of white heads and black heads. Also helps even out skin tone. -Repairing treatment is great, because it has moisturizer mixed with benzoyl peroxide, and it is effective for me. Doesn't dry my skin out, but everyone is different. Use more than they recommend though, use a moderate amount of repairing treatment on your face. Proactiv has cleared my face before, and I am starting to use it again after a summer of using other treatments. I have mild/moderate acne by the way. When I'm not using acne treatments, it's obviously moderate, but when I am using acne treatments, it is mild.

Great product but they cheat their customers through billing

Pros:

product works well

Cons:

over priced
surprise billing

A few months ago I ordered Proactiv. You know, that celebrity endorsed recurring face wash commercial. What a great product. My face is now pretty much flawless. Note that I did not sign up for recurring purchases/orders. However, the next month I received another face wash kit in the mail and I was charged 22.99. I thought, 'Big deal, I was out anyway and needed to reorder so I'll just keep this system how it is.' The next month I was charged another 22.99 and never received my shipment. I called to ask why and I was told that the previous shipment I received (with no receipt, email, etc) was actually 68.97 and that I would be billed 3 consecutive months for the shipment I already received. Really?! Almost $70 for facewash?! So I did a little research and found that Walmart sells the same crap for $11. I give Proactiv 5 stars for the product and ZERO stars for customer service. They will no longer be receiving my hard earned money because I don't pay companies that cheat their customers. I will be buying the same facewash at Walmart for $11 because at least I know I'm not going to get a surprise bill next month.

Helped get rid of small bumps...

Pros:

Got rid of small bumps on forehead

Cons:

Harsh on Skin
Expensive

This was the first ever acne treatment that I had tried, I will be honest and say the commercials did get to me and I was so happy that I was finally able to convince my parents to buy it for me. While I don't really recall it making it any worse it sure as heck was not getting me to the desired results I so desperately wanted after so many months of consistent use. However, i did find that it helped the tiny bumps that i would get on my forehead but nothing drastic changed. Total Waste of Money!

Why, oh why?

Pros:

Easy to do regimen

Cons:

Stopped working
Waste of $$
Horrible customer service

Okay, let's go back to a time when I didn't have acne. It was 2010 and I had to spend a year in Utah. The air in Utah is very dry and the climate change kind of wreaked havoc on my skin. I didn't have acne, but I was experiencing my first "breakouts". Obviously, I panicked and begged my parents to send me some sort of acne products. Of course they send the almighty PROACTIV SOLUTION!! Guaranteed to work or your money back. HA, yeah right. First of all, they send you lots of cleanser and toner, but barely any moisturizer. Last time I checked, applying moisturizer sparingly will not help with the dry Utah air. Anyways, I used this "solution" for a few months and I suppose it helped make the pimples go away. I wasn't strict with the regimen, but it seemed to get the job done. Let's fast forward to January 2011... Why are the pimples coming back? I'm still using Proactiv and they're freaking coming back! I want my money back! Never happened. I made multiple calls, spoke to various people, and I never saw a penny of my money back. Also, it took months for them to stop sending me my auto-shippments and to stop charging my credit card. Horrible company, horrible products. Enough said.

Do you want you acne to become 10X worse? Than use this product!

Pros:

Nothing

Cons:

more pimples
costly
popular

My friend suggested that I use Proactive because I was asking around about solutions to my acne problem. I was really happy to try a new product and thought that it was defiantly going to work. WRONG. My whole face broke out and I felt insecure and awful. It irritated my skin and cause my number of pimples to grow rapidly after using it for months I finally stopped.

Is it really worth it?

Pros:

Got to keep proactive as a souvenir

Cons:

Skin got much worse
too damn expensive
harsh chemicals

Acne has been part of my life for years. For one thing I've had acne since 3rd grade and all throughout high school. No joke. So of course to any naive person trying proactive was the ideal choice. However once I started to use the product I didn't see much improvement and if anything all it really did for me was give me MORE acne than before. I know that some acne products make you break out because your skin is getting used to it but that only shows how many harsh chemicals are involved within the product and those can lead to premature aging and other horrible things depending on the person. Honestly proactive was an Okay product but for $40 a month?, you can do better. I am now proud to say that I am completely acne free all because of a great product called NOXZEMA. For those of you who are having acne problems and still haven't found the right product I suggest you give this a try'.it's cheap and at least doesn't have ANY harsh products what so ever. Also never give up! Had i not looked up any acne products than I would have never found this Noxzema. by the way i'm in college now, my 3rd year and i STILL don't break out. that's how good Noxzema is :)
