Hi everyone,

I'm making this post to generally get something off my chest and to just vent really.

In late 2015, I had a massive breakout due to a type of birth control I was on at the time and I began taking accutane, I only realised that my birth control was making my skin  go crazy at about the 4 month mark and stopped it immediately. I know you're supposed to be on birth control on accutane but I took this risk and just didn't have any at all - they're not as strict as they should be with it here in the UK but obviously, I didn't get pregnant and I wouldn't risk it. Anyways, after that my skin began to clear up and for 4 years I have changed my towel on my pillow EVERY. SINGLE. NIGHT. without fail and I use non-bio on them because it has less chemicals. Well now, I've gone a bit crazy and I've started to eat a mainly vegan diet with absolutely NO dairy at all, I've been dairy free for about 6 months now and I've started to filter my water too. Along with that, I have spent hours researching all my products and found out that the products I had been using since I was 11 were highly comedogenic so I threw them all away and started a new skin care regimen with all non comedogenic ingredients (even if the bottle says non-comedogenic, it is most likly lying, I trust nothing now) , I spent hours copy and pasting ingredients into an ingredient checker to make sure nothing would harm my face and it's been a long time of going back and fourth as you can imagine, there are so many skin care brands out there. And now, I've started to use SLS free shampoo and conditioner and I'm also looking into buying satin pillowcases to replace using towels everynight because they're quite rough on my skin - I want to buy 10 because when I say I change them everynight, I mean it.

Wow, after typing all that out, I do sound crazy.. But, I'm a perfectionist and I still have scars (PIE) and want to get rid of them and make sure this acne never comes back because I did go into a depression because of it.

If you do want the website to see what your ingredients are, it's called acnemantra and if you go on the skin ingredients tool in the top right corner just scroll down and copy and paste all your ingredients into there and answer a simple sum, normally 2+2 or something like that and it'll tell you if something in your product is causing you to break out.

Likely* ah, sorry if I've missed some spelling mistakes, my bad! For some reason, this website lags a lot on my laptop. 🙁

Acne does bring out the OCD in all of us...I'm sure there isn't a member out there who can't relate! I still obsess about what I eat, what I put on my skin, etc. and this is years after the fact...when does it ever end?

Thanks for sharing the website for looking up ingredients, this is very helpful information!! :)

Yeah, I feel kinda obsessive sometimes though and I tend not to share my weird habits with "normal" people but I guess, what's normal anyways?!

Its no problem, I really do hope it helps some people out there, if you want some recommendations about 100% NON COMEDOGENIC products haha, I'm currently using the "Super Facialist By Una Freeman (the salicylic acid one in the white bottle) and it's working great although it is slightly drying and then I use Lush's serum bar (I forget the name now, there's only one tho) and to exfoliate I use Angels on Bare skin by Lush and all of these are completely non COMEDOGENIC! And just in case you don't believe me you can totally use the website I listed earlier to copy and paste the ingredients in - it's kinda a tricky site because it won't understand the ingredients without commas after each ingredient and nothing can be in brackets either, and when it says "0 acne causing ingredients found" then you've found the one!

Heyy! So I found this super cool website that checks the comedogenic rate of ingredients fast without you doing all the work manually.. [Edited link out]
and
I have a really good glycolic acid peel cream ( ISIS GLYCO-A 12% renewal skin cream... which works like a charm) at home and i just thought that I´d let the app run the ingredients of my glycolic acid peel cream just for fun ..turned out to be not so fun after all..

Found 3 acne causing ingredients

Cetyl Alcohol is mildly comedogenic
Steareth-20 is comedogenic
Stearic Acid is comedogenic

..and then I was like oh my! got to switch it to sth else.. well maybe acne. org glycolic acid peel is better because it is created extra for acne-sufferers.. and so I examined that one too.

!!! what I found is that even acne.org glycolic acid cream contains:

Found 4 acne causing ingredients

Butylene Glycol is mildly comedogenic
Glyceryl Stearate is mildly comedogenic
Squalane is mildly comedogenic
Sorbitan Stearate is mildly comedogenic

now i don´t even know which one of these products is worse, although my ISIS has not broken me out, if anything it has dried some pimples out..

..makes me wonder. I see a tendency of 2-4 "mildly comedogenic" ingredients popping up in every single product that claimes to be "non-comedogenic".. What can I use like this..if every single product that is made for acne prone skin or is meant to calm skin or whatever  found in pharmacies has these ingredients.  What do you think guys?
Also I really suggest you using this "skingredients" app on your phone before buying anything :)
