Hi! I'm a new member in here and just signed up recently because I thought it would be the best place for me to share my experience with the dreaded acne as well as learn about other people's and ask for advices. smile.png

As a short background, I've had acne since I was like 14 and they were usually just one or two of them but they were painful cysts. Fast forward 5 years today and my face really has changed a lot - it is worse. For the past 3 years, my face would be almost clear during the summer time, get a couple of acne during fall, and it gets really really bad during mid winter until mid spring(huge cyst everywhere) and gets better during the summer again. But this year, it seems the cycle started off pretty soon, I am getting big painful cysts and in the T-zone where I get them most of the time. cry.gif

I went to the dermatologist last April which he then prescribed me to take 40mg of doxycycline twice per day for two months. I think it worked well as my chin, which had a really widespread, swollen and painful acne infection gradually came down while taking it. But now, I'm having breakouts again and it really hurts my self-esteem as it always has. I could barely look in people in the eye while talking closely to them and I hate bright places and mirros. So I decided that I'm going to see the dermatologist this week and ask him to put me on accutane and hope for the best.

So I have a few questions for you guys. How much would accutane cost per month?(I'm in toronto) How long would I be put on it? The college I go to luckily states in their health insurance plan that they cover the cost of prescription drugs up to 80% including tane.

I apologize for the long post. XD Any comments/advice would be appreciated! Thanks a lot!

PS: Here is how my face looks right now

Hi there. I'm in the U.S. I just started on 60 mg Claravis (generic) per day. Without insurance, the cost would have been $783.92 for a 1 month supply. So maybe that will give you a ballpark figure of what it will cost you. My dermatologist told me the treatment will be 5-6 months.

Here is a link about what kind of dosage you might need: http://www.drugs.com/dosage/accutane.html

Hello! Wow is it that expensive? I thought it would be around $400-500, but I'll see how much would it really be when I get to visit the dermatologist later.

Anyways good luck on the treatment and thanks for that link!

I'm in the UK and have no idea about the cost of Accutane over there, but what I can tell you is the average course is 4-6 months :)

Thanks! Yeah I've read around that it is usually that long. I'm just hoping it will get better with that time and won't have to do a second course!

Hey, again I'm from the uk and have been on acutane/roacutane and I would defiantly recommend it. I know how it feels to have low self esteem my acne triggered of when I went away to work in a hot climate so when I came home I got referred to a dermatologist. My advice would be listen to your derm they know best, try not to read the horror stories as its really not that bad just the dry skin and lips but its worth it and just give it time it will work.

P.s if its anything like the uk your dosage is determined by your weight and that will determine how long you'll be on it for

Hope this helped and keep going you'll get there
