Hey guys so I have been on the regimen for 2-3 months now and I have seen some changes with my acne. So I'm black (more brown but you know what I mean) and now that my acne is clearing, the discoloration is staying behind. It's like clusters of dark spots on my forehead that run down the sides. My cheeks also suffer from this that it almost looks burnt in a way. Anyways, I've heard of Ambi and I've heard of the AHA. I want to try the Ambi but I don't know if it's safe to use with the regimen. Could I mix it with the moisturizer? How would I incorporate it with The Regimen? Please help!
Hi
Glad to hear that your acne is clearing!
I have never heard of 'ambi', I looked at the ingredient list online, and it seems like the ingredients are kosher with the regimen. I personally am leery of hydroquinone (due to its toxicity and possible ochronosis) and so I use retinols and niacinamide instead, but that's just personal preference.
Here is what you do. You put a little bit of the cream of your choice onto the back of your hand, along with your benzoyl peroxide. Look at them. Which lotion is a thicker consistency? Whichever lotion is thinner, that's the one you apply first. So: if your benzoyl peroxide is thinner, apply as you normally would. Wait until it is completely absorbed into the skin. Then, apply the lightening lotion on top of that. Wait until it is completely absorbed. Then, apply your moisturizer on top of this.
This 'product layering' method works very well. The key is to remember to use a very gentle touch when touching your face; when you start rubbing in the lotion, that physical action stirs up the acne again.
To keep myself from getting impatient while waiting for products to finish soaking in, I stagger it with other activities, like brushing my teeth.
