So ever since October last year I've had acne and recently the active acne has disappeared. I overreacted and have been using harsh things on my face to get pimples away and this has lead me to some red marks. I'm only 17 and I really want it gone so I can get my confidence back.. How long will it take? Will it even go away? Years!

Have you looked into a salicylic acid or glycolic peel? Or see a derm and ask for retin-a rx? Your scars aren't bad at all but I understand what you're going through!

About 3 months till they're pretty much fully faded dude. Honestly I wouldn't even worry about it, it looks normal serious.

Thanks for the fast replies.. I'm just worried that I screw up somehow and make them permanent or something, I didn't know that tanning was a big no for red marks for example.. In certain positions it seems like they are getting deeper.. I'm really anxious about using things on my skin now after everything and just want to wait this out, 3 months is not too long.. This is how it looks like after I tanned yesterday

And is it certain that it'll go away as fast as a couple of months only? People have said that this can take years.. And what's this type of scarring called?

It's called "hyperpigmentation" and while technically it can last years, yours doesn't look to be very bad. LikeTretinoin said, I'd guess that the marks will be pretty much faded within a couple of months. Some people say that AHA, salicylic acid, and vitamin C serums are all good for removing marks, but the more searching I do, the more convoluted and confusing everything seems to get. (I also have hyperpigmentation) I'd recommend that if you are very very concerned you can always make an appointment with a derm to see what he or she could do to remove some of the fading.

Hope all goes well and keep us updated!

Thanks for the reply Stephen. I'm overthinking this so much and it has gotten a grip of me, I'm just so worried for some reason that I'll be that one case that is going to be stuck with this forever. Especially since it is on my cheeks and I've heard that makes it take even more time healing and fading.. Does anyone have experience of these types of marks on the cheek?

Yeah marks on the cheeks take longer to heal for some reason.. I honestly wouldn't worry if I were you though, those will fade pretty quickly. I've had marks on my cheek that took a year to fade, but those were the ones I seriously picked on and squeezed to death because I didn't know any better. Now they usually fade within 8-12 weeks.

Thank you! I'm a little a worried because now they appear deeper, is there a chance that this actually might be a scar that won't fade or  it hyperpigmentation for certain?

Yes I have experiencedyour type of hyper pigmentation. It usually happens on darker skin tones/olive skin tones. Every time i get a pimple, it would get inflamed and leave a mark like this. Unfortunately for me my active acne kept coming back on top of my scars, some of my scars never had a chance to fade while some did with a couple months. I suggest you find a sunscreen that suits you, this will help your marks go away faster because UV rays will only damage and make hyper pigmentation last longer. You can also ask your derm to prescribe you a cream that has a skin lightening agent that includes hydroquinone.. a cream that was prescribed to me was called " Triluma" it had ingredients that were fighting my acne and as well as bleaching my marks. There are precautions on taking this drug however and your derm will have to see if it suits you. my marks that are identical to yours faded within 5 weeks.. I wish you best of luck dear!!

Thanks for taking your time with this  answer, means a lot! I always thought that tanning were for acne but perhaps not for the marks.. Could it scar my marks and instead leave something permanent? I'm afraid it's developing into something for than a mark since it seems deeper now but that is perhaps normal? Does it still look like like hyper pigmentation or has it gotten worse?

You're welcome I empathize with you and understand why you're concerned so it's really my pleasure to discuss this with you! Whatever you do, don't go tanning. It might hide your scars by darkening your skin tone to match, but once winter season comes and your tanning goes away.. you will realize that the tanning actually burned your acne/marks deeper into your skin.. meaning it will take your skin more time to heal. So like i said ..always wear sunscreen! find an oil free one that suits you. It seems like the indentation you are talking about are very superficial pitted scars/ hyper pigmentation.. but that doesn't mean it is permanent.I experienced those as well and though it would be permanent, but collagen rebuilds overtime and it will fade since it is very superficial. Again, I am not a doctor so i really suggest that you go visit one if it is in your budget/covered by your insurance. They could suggest laser therapy (I am undergoing the Fraxel Daul treatment right now), or prescribe you creams. You also seem like you still have active acne.. I suggest we focus on eliminating that first before tackling down the acne marks you are concerned about.

dude stop posting the same pics of your face. your skin looks really good, stop worrying about it. i would do anything for skin like that ..i wish a few small red marks were my issue and not actual collagen loss

Give him a break, if he wants to post pictures of his red marks and discuss them, then he should. This is the Red Mark/Hyperpigmentation forum, so this is the perfect place for it. Overall, I think his red marks will subside, but it will take time unfortunately

Judging by these pictures would you still see it as only red marks or scars as well?

doesn't look like there would be much scarring. Don't fixate on it dude, seriously :P The scars won't even be noticeable without a microscope if that.

I see at least 20 scars, won't ever heal no matter what you do so just live with them.

I have same problem with you
Sunscreen is a must..
If you really bothered by this scar you can see a derm and try chemical peeling treatment
or try derma roller
It will really help and faded your scars
