i've had acne/ hyperpigmentation for about 7 years now and for years i was told that it would just fade with time but it hasn't and now it looks like i'm going to have it forever, i'm depressed and i don't know what to do . Has anyone ever recovered from this stage of hyperpigmentation or knows anyone who has, i just need hope that this will go away and some help getting it to fade. It's also difficult to find any sources for treating african skin so any help from africans is welcome. I'm just fed up right now

I don't have African skin but maybe I can offer some ideas to help.

I first read about possible hyperpigmentation here:

http://www.facingacne.com/salicylic-acid-acne-pros-cons/ I never knew about this potential problem until I was researching salicylic acid. Apparently no one who is a 3 or more on the "Fitzpatrick Scale" should use any products containing salicylic acid. I'm a "2" on this scale -- obviously there are more than six colors of people but it's useful to simplify the issue for medical purposes.

There are some low pH homemade exfoliation treatments you could try: (1) Aloe Vera gel; (2) raw unfiltered honey mixed with 10% water or 50% yogurt; and, (3) raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar mixed 50/50 with water.

I believe that lowering the pH is very important to treatment, no matter what your skin color is, and I'd like to know how this works out for other people of every skin color. Most cleansing products, especially bar soaps, are alkaline (high pH) and aren't helpful to the skins acid mantle."

I had hyperpigmentation that remained on my skin or 6+ years and no one could tell me how to get rid of it either (I am Caribbean with brown skin). I'd look into getting deep TCA peels from a doctor, to get some actual results. The weak stuff (Aloe vera, apple cider vinegar, salicylic acid) will not work I assure you. It sounds/seems like you may have dermal hyperpigmentation.

thanks for letting me know about the tca peels, i've looked it up and it seems to have worked for some dark skinned people, i'll speak to my dermatologist about them, thanks 🙂
