I haven't tried it but it sort of makes sense because oily/greasy things are recommended for hyperpigmentation. However, i wouldn't try it because if you still have acne prone skin then it may block your pores and make you break out (which will only cause more hyperpigmentation).

For the past 6 weeks I've been using Emu Oil and Bio Oil (because I have indented scars but it also helps pigmentation) on my pigmentation and I have seen a great improvement, I really recommend these products (especially Emu Oil, search it on this website for reviews)

I have tried it and it works wonders for me I've always picked at my face and made something that was barely noticeable and turned it into a giant mark but I apply aleo Vera Vaseline on it and its gone in a few days it really works also tea tree oil helps aswell as prevents more pimples in the future !
