I have been on dianette since I was 17 on and off and am now 33 eek. Anyway whenever I come off I break out and get very depressed and obsessive over my skin. I am hoping to try for a baby next summer but am scared I will break out bad if I just stop. I have two options. Either wean off the pill over 6 months... 3/4 pill for 2 months then 1/2 then 1/4 until I am off completely. The other option is to switch to a milder pill such as yasmin for say 9 months first and then come off. Which do people think is the best option. I just get so I'll when I breakout I would do anything to avoid it.
I don t understand why people think that diane is more strong than yasmin. It s just a matter of types of progestins used (drospirenone for yasmin 3mg, cyproterone acetat for diane 2mg- both having antiandrogenic effects) . Regarding the estrogen in them (etinilestradiol-all combined bc pills have the same) the difference it's barely noticeable as they are bith considered low dose bc pill : diane has 0.035, yasmin has 0.03(0). The risk of stroke, embolism cancer etc. in combined bc pills (that use 2 types of hormones) is related with the presence of the artificial estrogen ( this etinilestradiol) and as u can see the difference is very small. The idea is i don't think if u ll change to yasmin you ll escape the post BC breakout. I ve read horror stories about coming off diane 35/dianette, yaz, yasmin....you name it. I think all the bc pils with antiandrogenic effect are able to give u the post pill breakout. I m in the same boat as you. I took 8 years diane and i switched to bellara ( has a little less estinilestradiol, like yasmin, and 2 mg of a different progestin called chlormandinon-antiandrogenic as well). When i will think about having kids i will wean myself off them for 9 or 12 months. From all my research that is the method that gave the best results and it makes perfect sense in my head. The fact that i simply changed one bc pill to another doesn t give any assurance that acne will not come after stoping them as i have seen cases of bad acne on girls that were taking microdosed bc pills (not low dose like we do) so with significantly less amount of hormones .About those ,yes, u can really say they are less strong. I wish you good health and no acne!
