Spiro & Diane 35 - What happens when you stop BCP?

Hello everyone,

I have a question that I have searched the internet for and have not really found a solid answer. Perhaps there isn't one, but I would love any advice I can get. I have been on Diane 35 and 100 mg of Spironolactone for over a year now to control my acne and other PCOS symptoms. My skin has cleared completely. I am in LOVE with my new skin and I am not willing to give it up. Here is my question, I think the Diane 35 is making me very moody, and no one in my house is happy with this. I would really like to stop the Diane 35 and stay on the Spiro. My question is: Will the Spiro alone be able to maintain my clear skin? Is it likely that any of my acne may come back after stopping the Diane? Or will the spiro keep it away?

Any thoughts or experiences please! Thank you!!

How did it go for you? I was on yaz and 100mg Spiro with super clear skin. I stopped the yaz about a year ago. Started getting more cysts a few months ago:( Super frustrating!! Derm increased dose of spiro to 150mg. Hoping this helps. Also considering a short term antibiotic to help with the transition.

I'm 37yo

I was on Diane 35 and Androcur for 6 years and all those years i'm pretty sure what kept me from having acne was Androcur and not Diane. The only thing Diane did was make me gain water weight as far as i can tell 😡
I tried stopping Androcur and staying on Diane for 1 month but on Diane alone, the acne came back so i stayed on both caus myObgyn told me that if i take Androcur i had to take Diane 35 too. Never got any explanation why. But they worked well so i didn't care and 5 pound is not a big deal. Diane 35 and Androcur use the same molecule (cyproterone acetate), in Diane it's 2mg and in Androcur 50mg (but i used only 25mg once a day for the first 10 days of my cycle). It was enough to keep me acne free.

As far as i understand, Spiro is kinda like Androcur without the DVT (deep vein thrombosis) risk that's asociated with cyproterone acetate when it's combined with estrogen, so if your doctor prescribed you Spiro alone, it's prolly safer for you, and though the estrogen from Diane is suppose to have an affect on acne, for me...it didn't. It was really the Androcur, so maybe Spiro is enough for you.
