Hey guys. I haven't posted here in awhile because I've been taking accutane and I've been hoping it would clear me up like it did the last time I took it. Unfortunately, this hasn't happened and I'm still getting inflamed breakouts and blackheads. I'm guessing because my acne is hormonal accutane is not targeting the root problem of my acne and so I'm still having issues. I have been talking to my derm about trying the anti-androgens flutamide or bicalutamide since I do not tolerate spiro. I'm just so scared of trying something new. I'm afraid of side effects and having to be on this long term. I guess this is sort of a vent/looking for support. I'm in grad school right now and am very stressed and this isn't helping :(

I'm so sorry Hun. I know what it's like taking accutane, having it work before and then zilch. At least you know what your root cause is so you don't have to waste time trying useless things. I know how scary it is to try something new but the easiest way to get over that is to just do it (NIKE anyone.). Please keep us posted. I'd be interested in hearing about your progress.

Thanks leelowe. The first time it worked so well so I thought this time would be the same. I'm so disappointed :(

I've been looking into finding a way to get a prescription for flutamide. I have pcos and went to an endo recently and he told me spiro basically was my only hope. I don't seem to react well to spiro. I've read such great things about flutamide. Bicalutamide I've read provides stronger testosterone blocking without the potential liver damage. I wish my derm was flexible like yours. Keep us posted and good luck!

Why not try supplements like inositol and/or DIM? No need to resort to prescription drugs unless you have eliminated all other possibilities.

I'm sorry :( Spiro also doesn't work well for me. Maybe try visiting another doctor?

Unfortunately those two things did not work for me. My hormones are so strange. I have high testosterone but all my other hormones are normal. I have no cysts. In the past I've also had high DHEA, but as of recently it has been normal. TBH, the only things that have affected my acne in the past have been anti-androgens and accutane. I eat so well and I've experimented with many different diets, but even that doesn't seem to help.

Wait up, so are you still taking accutane?? Or did you finish your 2nd couse and still breakout allover?

And the root problem of acne is the oil-gland. Dosnt matter if its hormonal acne. Once Accutane shrink up your glands almost completely it will be impossible for acne to form due to the bacteria starving. Some people need more then 2 courses.

Im on my 2nd couse and im having a very bad Ib .from mild to almost severe. My first couse i didnt get an Ib but i already had almost severe acne.

I'm actually still on accutane. I went to my derm last month expecting to stop the accutane but she wanted me to keep going for a little while longer. My last big breakout was a few weeks ago and it was all over. I'm still suffering from non-inflamed acne.

I don't think acne is caused by oily skin alone. My mom has oily skin but no acne at all.

You should keep going why stop now if you already broke out.you will most likely still breakout if you stop maybe not as much ,but it probably wont ever be cure until your hormones are good. But how are you gonna do that??you said u tried alot of things already. you might just waste more time trying more things that wont work. Unless your tests are bad and your heath is an issue then i dont see why you should stop. Your mom dosnt break out because she most likely has normal skincells that shed probably. She Dosnt get clog like we do. If i was you ill stick with it. In 2-3 months ull be good . Just stay home and relax until its over with. You have to be strong but its kinda hard i know cuzz im going through the same thing.

I have already taken accutane once and the acne came back so I am expecting the same to happen this time around. I can't stay on actuate forever. It has already been almost 8 months. That is the reason I am looking into longer term hormonal solutions like bicalutamide/flutamide.

Wow sorry to hear you been onaccutane for 8 months now and still breaking out. I find that very weird . By the 3-5month it should have have cleared you. I wish you the best . acne although is not life threatening. If it wont go away then mentally it can be. Stay strong.

Well if you have clogged pores like the blackheads you mentioned, im assuming you might have whiteheads as well. Accutane usually clears up severe inflamed cystic acne in 3-months but it takes alot longer for clogged pores to fade/ shrink. If your inflamed acne is not cystic acne but clogged pores that become red and inflamed that might be a positive because the accutane is purging out the clogged pore to be more easily extracted along with its root which unplugs your pore. Im on accutane and just started month 4 and i will get cystic acne here and there but a majority are my clogged pores becoming inflammed.
