Hi all,
I'm new to this site but have read countless of threads on here so I thought I'd finally make an account and ask my own questions...
Anyway, I have oily skin with hormonal acne and have been on antibiotics before (ceftin) 500mg a day with veltin, a retinoid gel. It worked great, went off, acne got worse, the usual. Then I started back up this time to 1000mg a day. It worked for a little but I could tell it slowly stopped working.
Now I have been on birth control (Aviane) for 6 weeks and my acne is once again HORRIBLE! I am breaking out on my cheeks, chin, and jawline just like the old days... I am still using the gel to help the scarring but I'm not sure what to do now. Should I stick it out and wait another 6 weeks to see if my skin will get better? Or should I ask for a different BC?
One last question...
Does anyone know if it's safe/beneficial to take the leftover antibiotics I have while taking the Aviane until my dermatology appt?
Any advice is appreciative.. Thank you

Heyyyy you're taking Aviane which has Levonorgestrel as the progestin - it's highly androgenic and definitely why your acne is getting worse on that pill. If you want to be on a birth control to help your skin you should go on one with a progestin that's not androgenic.. usually the most popular ones people on this site use are ortho tri cyclen, ortho cyclen, yasmin or yaz, dianette , etc. those pills usually improve acne taking antibiotics with the birth control will make the birth control less effective so if you're sexually active I don't reccommend it
