I just want to know if anyone else here has been on yaz, stopped and experienced what I have been, and has then decided to take the plunge to spiro.

I would like to compare side effects. Because if spiro leads to mood swings, weight gain and other non sense then I will not be taking it. I already have a prescription just sitting in my drawer, I'm too afraid to touch it.

Thank you for your help everyone!

Spiro is an antiandrogen, but it's not birth control, per se.

I have hormonal and follicular acne and absolutely hated it--it made me hyperkalemic and I bruised on it and experienced the worse skin hyperpigmentation I ever have. It also made me retain water, even though it's supposed to be a diuretic.

That said, I might be an extreme case--I have thick, oily skin, am sensitive to medication, and Accutane was the only thing that ever worked for me.

AnneofGreenGables swears by it, though. A lot of people take Yaz and Spiro together; you could ask your derm about that.

I have been suffering from acne and have been on Benzoyl Peroxide for the last 21 years. Even on various birth control pills, including Yaz, I broke out. And BC caused nausea, headaches , mood swings , weight gain and an extreme loss of libido. My derm wanted me on accutane, but I insisted in spiro.

Now on only spiro, my skin is beautiful, my hair is full and healthy and all my menstrual cycle problems disappeared ( I was supposed to have thermal endometrial ablation in spring because of horrible strong, never- ending and extreme painful time of month.) I have no more mood swings and it does not affect my libido. I lost a few pounds which was not really planned, but I am totally cured of those extreme water retention issues I had as part of my PMS. PMS is gone too.

I agree with Calumma, i also find spiro great! I can't take bc so i can't really help you with that but it's the only thing that i 've tried before accutane and it saved me. No weight gain, no mood swings, just period irregularity for a few months which is controlable.
