Background: I got cystic hormonal acne from using birth control at age 20, and have been struggling with acne ever since. The only time I was ever 100% clear was when I used the Regimen for a couple years. But I got tired of the BP bleaching my clothes, and I suspected it was damaging my skin, despite keeping it clear. It's taken a year and a half but I've finally quit using benzoyl peroxide and discovered the only place I get pimples at all these days are on my chin and rarely the forehead.
Watching a youtube video by "Brianne" changed how I treated my skin. I don't have oily skin--I have dry skin! I've been treating it as such ever since and saw a dramatic reduction in breakouts. Then I got obsessed with Korean beauty and was using a double-cleansing on my skin followed by a LOT of different products. But my skin still got little pimples, looked dry, and had fine lines no matter how much moisturizing product I used on it. My acne wasn't gone...
I went back to Brianne's site. She used no soap at all, just a homemade cold cream with all natural ingredients. I have replicated that cold cream (albeit imperfectly), and haven't used soap on my face in a week. I slather it on at night to remove sunscreen and makeup, and wipe it off with a washcloth. It's too thick for a moisturizer for me, so I follow up with my favorite Clinique lotion. My skin seems to really like it. The pimples I have didn't magically disappear, but I don't seem to be getting any new ones. You'd think I'd be greasy and oily without "washing" my face, but I'm not.
Has anyone else tried this? I searched but can't find anyone's story on using this particular cream. Some people have apparently had success with regular old Pond's. It saves me from using water on my face without going totally "caveman", which I can't do since I would never go sans SPF and do enjoy wearing makeup. Thoughts? Similar stories? Success???
Hi! Yes, I've seen that video and a lot of her videos. It lead me to give it a try. I bought the vegan cold cream on the etsy link Brianne provided. I stopped using benzoyl peroxide (acne.org) and my Murad cleanser and used the cold cream. It worked okay, but I started breaking out. They would go away then come back again. After the semester ended, I started the caveman regimen. I feel like that saved my skin from the years and years of damage I brought to it. It restored my skin, and it was awesome not having to worry about washing up when I would go camping. I recently started using the cold cream again because school's starting soon and I like to wear make up Twice I used the cold cream wrong. I'm not entirely sure, but I think I used a wet washcloth that was way too hot (not lukewarm like she says in the video) and that caused a severe breakout. My face was completely covered with red irritated acne. This definitely has some trial and error to it. I really want this to work though, because her skin is flawless, there's only a few ingredients, and it's so simple. I'd love to know how it works for you
My backstory: I've has acne since middle school and have been dealing with it for about 10ish years. I have tried countless products, but nothing got rid of it entirely. About 2 years ago, I was sick of it so I changed my diet. I cut out all meat and most dairy products. I stopped taking my birth control (which I think was what gave me really horrible cystic acne). I changed my products as well. I only buy cruelty free, and I want to go as natural as possible. I do wear makeup (foundation, powder, eyebrows, eyeshadow, lips) about 4 times a week. At the moment the only thing I do to my skin is get it wet, rub cold cream on it for about 10 mins (there's something so satisfying of feeling those little oil beads), wipe that all off with a lukewarm wet washcloth, tone with diluted apple cider vinegar, then moisturize with more cold cream. I'll do that about once a day or every other day.
