Hey guys long time forum lurker and I decided to share with you guys my experience with NOT WASHING your face to clear acne ^.^
Just a little back story on my skin:
I currently suffer from stubborn moderate T zone acne for about a year now (kicked in right after I graduated form high school) that's scarring.. I have over 20 scars on my forehead because of this and it just keep getting worse. And because of this I have also started taking accutane and been on it for 2 months now 80 mg/day initially but I had uncommon and severe side effects in just 5 days from taking the 1st pill. Then I jumped down to 40mg/day for about 6 weeks and still experienced bad side effects like stomach pain and constipation and I feared that it was IBS since the symptoms were identical. Broke out like a banshee all over my forehead cysts and all on 40mg/day. So now I cut it half again and doing 20mg/day, it's been a few weeks and my skin definitely has calmed down a bit and with almost no side effects (im 180lbs). IMO and from a few scientific articles I've read, low dose (.25mg/day - .6mg/day) is very efficient at both treating and curing moderate acne with only a little bit higher chance of relapses. I think many dermos prescribe a too high dose to people with only mild/moderate acne, but hey it still does work well.
This condition has definitely impacted my confidence greatly and has made me very distant to other people. I fell for all of you acne sufferers and just want to give you all a big hug Anyways, I stumbled upon the "caveman regimen" recently and have become very interested in trying it. It says to not wash your face at all, not even with water, but i personally don't like the idea of not using washing with water since it has a neutral PH balance so it can't disrupt the skin's "acid mantle", which from i researched is a layer of your skin that protects the skin and helps keep acne causing bacteria at bay. So when you cleanse with a alkaline-slightly alkaline cleanser what you really do it disrupt that mantle, so the skin becomes more vulnerable to acne while it's trying to repair it. Anyways that's a jist of the science on this regimen.
The reason why I think this might work is because I notice that every time I cleanse, even with a gentle cleanser when I finish and pat dry ALL of my scars appear my red and my zits look more inflamed, and this happens every time morning and night. I think I'm just irritating my skin at this point by cleansing it. So I started the WATER ONLY regimen, just lukewarm water drip down my face in the shower and cold water through out the day along with BPT 3.1 BP lotion (look it up on amazon it's got very good views) that I've been doing for awhile now. Will update on my progress
UPDATE: Day 4 of no washing or moisturizing face
So far very good results. My skin tone has improved greatly and my skin feels smoother and looks more healthy than it has looked in a very long time. No new breakouts as of yet, and surprisingly all of my scar's have faded noticeably in just 3 days. WOW!
I honestly feel that my skin is actually healing and getting better instead of it feeling like it might breakout at any time, takes a load of stress off. I have also been drinking water with lemon daily which might have contributed to it.
I think this is worth a shot if you tried everything and feel like cleansers are irritating your face, it's really easy to do too ^.^ WIll update in a few days!
Good luck! I couldn't do this because my skin gets too oily looking if I don't use cleanser. Just out of curiosity, what were the gentle cleansers you were using before?
I first used cetaphil gentle skin cleanser but It was way too harsh for me, so I bought and primarily used cerave hydrating cleanser, which wasn't as irritating to my skin but still didn't help out the problem

Cetaphil and Cerave both break me out. If you do try to use a cleanser again in the future, try running it through cosdna to see if it contains comedogenic ingredients. For now though I'm glad you're seeing results with just using water

I'm not sure on the cetaphil cleanser but on the bottle of the cerave cleanser it states that it is non comedogenic. And thanks

Many products which say they are non comedogenic actually are not.

Cerave hydrating has stearyl and cetearyl alcohol which are problematic for many acne prones.
Cerave foaming has less troubling ingredients according to cosdna, but it still breaks many out including myself.
