I personally have never tried using ice, but I do use ice cold water to rinse my face twice a day and find that sometimes it's a little irritating. Try a little bit of honey on those problem areas if you've never tried it before. Whenever I put honey on my blemishes they heal practically overnight.
I use manuka honey from Amazon.. seriously, the most amazing thing.

I actually tried ice before, and my light acne got worse!!! Worst decision everrr. Regret it so much. It must have irritated my face so much
Could you explain a little more what happened? There's no way the ice could have made it more inflammed, ice will constrict blood vessels making it impossile for the ice to make it more inflammed. Maybe you left the ice on too long and slightly burned your skin, making it a little red? Keep in mind that when using ice, it will always look a little worse when you take the ice off. Then after 5-15 min or so the redness goes away.
Hey, I've personally had a lot of success from the icing method - literally can make my problem areas look better overnight. However I've only ever used it on cystic spots which means the ice numbs the pain and reduces the bump, but I'm not sure how effective it would be on smaller inflamed acne. Don't forget when icing your skin put the ice in a freezer bag, wrap it in kitchen roll and hold it on your skin for 30 seconds and take it off for 30 seconds then repeat for up to 20 mins, this is the way I do it and I've never had any irritation.
