Oils are great - they can really help control oiliness and moisturize the skin at the same time. I've been using Jojoba oil for over a year now - it's amazing. I absolutely love it. At first it can feel a little greasy - it can feel like it may clog your pores but in most cases, if you get organic it won't. It's great as a moisturizer as well as a moisturizer base if your skin is super dry... It can make you look a little orange if you use too much but it's really great. Jojoba oil is very similar to your skin's natural oils, so when you put it on your face it tricks your skin into thinking that it doesn't need to produce any of that pore-clogging sebum.

Coconut oil is an awesome moisturizer. It's quick and simple. I just started using it on my face and I love it. All the antioxidants in it are helping clear up the whiteheads on my chin - that's a task even Benzoyl Peroxide couldn't do for me. It absorbs really quickly - less than 5 minutes. You won't even be able to tell you have it on. For the first time today I tried mixing Jojoba Oil and Coconut Oil for a completely natural oil moisturizer. It takes care of flaking really well without leaving my skin greasy. It's really low-maintenance. I also hear great things about Avocado Oil. Good luck trying out natural oils!

That's interesting that you said jojoba oil can make your face orange....I thought I was looking a little more tanned today. hahaha, so weird. I added more jojoba oil to my mixture a few days ago and that's when I noticed that change in my skin color. Oh well! I'd rather be a little orange than dried up! :P Do you wear makeup at all? What do you use to remove it if you do?

I just started using the cocout oil (unrefined, organic, extra virgin) like 3 weeks ago and its amazing! i cant believe all these years of spending all kinds of money on stupid products that claimed miraculous results and BAM coconut oil is the one that works and really well! its even lightening my scars! and people are so skeptical about it when they hear about it because its oil but its amazing

Hi Cassiie,

It lightens my scars as well! So many people claim that coconut oil is very comedogenic, but I haven't found that to be so at all! AND I use quite a bit on my face, so if it was pore-clogging, I'd know. haha. You mentioned that you've only been using it for about 3 weeks and already see a difference-- I noticed changes in my overall complexion in a short period of time, as well! This stuff's great! I wish you continued success!

No no, I appreciate all of the information. I'd much rather have a detailed answer than a single sentence.

As soon as I have the money, I'm going to buy some Jojoba oil and some coconut oil. Any recommended brands? :)

I've been reeeeally wanting to get some unrefined coconut oil lately! I'm almost positive it won't cause a bad reaction because I've used a lotion on my face before that had coconut oil and it didn't cause any problems.

I hate how expensive it is though. :( the sunflower shoppe near my place sells some and the cheapest is still 20 something dollars. I'm torn between trying that and sweet almond oil or avocado oil. Or jojoba. I wish I could find someone who has tried all four so they can tell me which one is best. xD

Hey Lewis,

Where I live, jojoba and coconut oil are not too badly priced. I can get a 14oz jar (~415mL) of coconut oil for about $7, and a smaller vial of jojoba oil for around the same price. I buy them at my local WholeFoods store, but you can also get coconut oil in the cooking aisle at the grocery store. My mom uses the stuff from the grocery store and it's just as good as the WholeFoods stuff. I actually use three different brands and they're all the same to me! So it doesn't really matter as long as it said "Virgin, unrefined oil." :)

I can't believe it's sold for $20! That' so expensive!! Try out a local grocery store in the cooking section. Whoa, talk about a store trying to rip you off!

I have tried almond oil, coconut oil, and jojoba. Jojoba and coconut oil are a good mixture. I didn't really notice anything special with almond oil. :D Good luck!

WHOA I feel kinda dumb haha! Wal Mart has some refined coconut oil, but I'll try looking around some other gorcery stores like Krogers to see if maybe they are more reasonable, and have the good unrefined and cold pressed stuff. I actually thought that was normal or something .. on the other hand this area of Texas where I live is kinda expensive to live in sometimes so lots of things are totally overpriced.

Thank you so much for your advice! I'm heading out to get some jojoba oil at the very least, I've heard so many good things about it. :)

I use the Acne.org brand Jojoba oil (only brand I've tried)

and the Dr. Bronner's Magic All In One Unrefined, Expeller Pressed, Virgin Coconut oil from Whole Foods. I don't think it's too expensive.

oh yes I love Jojoba oil, definitely get some. Nature's Way brand Coconut Oil has really great reviews on Amazon, it looks like it would be sold in a grocery store.

hey there ,

I have been researching natural moisturisers and came across your post. I really like the idea, I love coconut and already use it in cooking.

I have sime unfefined/organic stuff, I never thought Id put it on my face but what the hey I have nothing to lose. My skin has been decent since I started yaz, the only time I get pimples now is if I eat too much sugar/alcohol but I have some old pigment marks. I do get flakey/dry especially in the winter. I just had electrolysis today but in a few days Im going to try this and see how I fare. I already tried it as a body lotion it feels nice.

If something works for you, keep it up. I had horrible results with coconut oil as well as jojoba oil but my friend does well with both. One thing to keep in mind for others is that coconut oil is pretty high on the comodogenic scale while jojobo is said not to clog your pores. I think though that trying it out for yourself is the best option and if your skin is not broken, don't fix it.

you can even use the coconut oil as a cleanser too like if you dont wanna use harsh products. (plus im all into animal rights and a lot of face washes/ moisturizers test) i don't use anything on my face at all other than coconut oil i replaced my cleanser with it and i use it as a moisturizer and my skin cleared right up and old red marks are lightening a lot im so happy i tried it and shocked because when i read about it i was like hmmm another house hold remedy that prob doesnt work but im sure glad i tried it. and its awesome in your hair too! theres soo many uses. makes your hair healthy. good for your skin..it evened got rid of some crows feet i had around my eyes (im only 25). but a friend of mine met a woman in her 50s that looked like she was in her 20s because she uses it everyday..its anti aging!! i use it as deodorant too because regular deodorant leaves white allover my clothes and it apparently can cause breast cancer so i gave it a try and it does work! and doesnt leave white marks all over your clothes lol. it also works for getting rid of yeast infections lol and apparently whitens teeth too. the uses are endless lol. the best one i find is by Nutiva. smells sooo good and it was like 12.99$ but its probably cheaper other places because the store i got it at is expensive for everything

I agree that you should never ever just jump into a new skincare routine. You could definitely hurt your skin rather than help it. Coconut oil doesn't break me out and my skin is SUPER sensitive. But yes...I definitely suggest spot testing instead of just slathering it all on your face. You don't want disastrous results!

I used coconut oil as a cleanser last night and this morning, my red marks were so much lighter! I might stick to using JUST coconut oil from now on.

The jojoba oil/grapeseed oil/tea tree oil mixture that I'm using might not be the best option for me. I think it's the tea tree oil. I always crave some sort of "medicinal" smell/feel to my products so I added tto. However, it's always been irritating to my skin in the past, so I don't know why I thought it'd be a good idea. Boo. I'll try just coconut oil for a bit :D

oddly enough, jojoba left me greasy and did little for my breakouts. Then again, that was a younger and more pimply time, but the experience still turned me off. Coconut oil on the other hand absorbs well into my skin, and since I've been using it I feel like my complexion is overall much fresher and nice looking. Still the occasional breakout, but no angry red volcanoes. And I only need a little bit, just a finger dip in the jar, to fully moisturize my face and neck. In short, coconut oil 5eva <3

That one look okay? I'm going to get it as soon as possible!

Need an oil to cleanse with too, but a moisturising/spot treating oil would be good for now.

Is it supposed to come in a jar? Also, some of the reviews say it isn't...oily in consistency, wouldn't this be hard to apply?

EDIT...again. Is 250g a lot for the price or am I getting ripped off?

and...sorry about this, how long does it usually last? Does a little go a long way?

I'm so annoying...

I'm glad to see that more and more people are getting into Coconut Oil! I owe it all to this post - I would've never known about it otherwise. The one I have comes in a jar, you should be fine. Coconut Oil can either go really quickly or really slowly, you don't need much of it. It depends on what you're planning on using it for. As for oil cleansing, you could try a 50% Castor Oil and 10% Olive Oil cleanse, there's recipes on line if you look. Steam your face with it and then wash it off. I hear great things about that cleanse.

No, you aren't annoying! These are good questions!

It doesn't have to come in a jar-- I have some in a plastic tub, as well. This is a pretty fair price for the coconut oil-- middle of the road price.

To answer your other questions:

It lasts a very long time if you're just using it for your face-- I eat it AND put it on my body so one jar lasts for about 3 months for me (plus my boyfriend steals some all the time so it's probably going away quicker because of that! :P ) A little DOES go a long way!

It's a solid at room temperature-- but just grab a little bit, warm it up with your fingers, and it melts right away!

Okay so I did a little research and I'm concerned about the amount of people saying coconut oil broke them out and saying that it's quite heavy.

Since its coconut, I imagined it to be light and refreshing and unlikely to cause breakouts. I have no idea what to try anymore :/

I tried oils (coconut and olive) but it didn't work for me at all. I guess it would work better for someone who has dry skin as opposed to the already oily skin I have.

I found it was actually a herbal capsule that worked for me and got rid of my acne in under 3 weeks and I didn't have to do anything apart from eat these capsules every night.

But I agree, some of the treatments out there are just too risky with their side effects so i'd steer well away from them.

I use coconut oil (unrefined, cold pressed, organic) every night. :) It doesn't break me out. I did a spot test first though just to make sure! I guess it's a hit or miss with people like anything else.

It really keeps my skin soft, I love it! I'm not sure if it's keeping acne at bay but my skin definitely looks better than it used to. I'm still getting some hormonal acne. (Of course, my skin was at it's best while on Accutane, but I don't think I'm ready for a third course ;_; )

So having read this i am tempted to try coconut oil however I do have my reservations,

1) i tried emu oil before with all the ranting and raving about it like in this post lol, and whilst i thought it was working and the skin felt great, after long it broke me out, gave me deep under the skin spots, which left horrible marks for months that have only gone recently.

so, I may try this, that one lewis linked from amazon looks good, have you tried it lewis? I realise this post is slightly old, so maybe more will have updates

what would you say about eating it, or taking coconut oil capsules (if they even exist?)
