Hello, i'm a 20year old male suffering from acne since i was 13-14.
I Started developing cystic acne mixed with whiteheads when i was Younger, got to the point i was classified a severe case of acne and i went to see a dermatologist, who prescribed me accutane for 6months, my skin cleared quite a lot, the ONLY thing remaining was the scars and pigmentation.
A few months after stopping the accutane course my acne had relapsed, this time it was 90% non-inflamatory(whiteheads,blackheads) and after years of testing all kinds of cleansers, tropical treatments like benzoyl per³xides etc... It was to no avail.
My current situation is as follows, in january i visited a dermatologist and i was prescribed minotrex, which is an antibiotic that basicly Kills P.acnes bact©ria on your pores, it worked wonders, until i ended the 3month course in january and my non inflamatory acne relapsed, worse than ever, i had 20whiteheads happearing everyday on my cheeks and the sides of my forehead, dunno the name. Now my question is, i have a very oily t-zone, but my breakout zones are rather dry and feel tight, so ir begs a question, AM i confusing my C zone(cheeks and sides of the forehead) for a dehydrated skin instead of just dry?
I have since then Started taking minotrex again, my acne had improved but Im Still gaining new whiteheads even tho last time i took it, i was pretty much breakout free throughtout the course.
My skincare routine consists of, using a micellar facial gel wash cleanser for dehydrated deu skin without SLS in the morning and night, i try to ONLY clean twice a day but sometimes i clean it 3 Times, because i want to clear my face of some whiteheads
After each cleanse i use a light moisturizer from Simple, i cant not use a moisturizer because my skin feels really tight
I try to exfoliate 2times per week with a exfoliater that is physical(has particles that exfoliate the skin) and is chemical(salicylic acid)
You probably now have fungal acne from taking the antibiotics. You would have sarted with ordinary acne and the antibiotic fixed that, but in doing soit caused fungal acne.
Stop using any moistrisers as they feed fungal acne, stop defoliating your skin with SA as that damages the skin barrier which allows the fungus to invade, start applying clotrimazole topical antifungal cream 2-3 times a day to the affected areas, wash your hair in an antidandruff shampoo, and if you are ONLY taking antibiotics for the acne, STOP taking the antibiotics as they are now (most li;ely) causing your acne problems.
Antiobiotics are REALLY dangerous, they seriously reduce the ability of one's immune system to deal with fungus etc.
Antibiotics CAUSE fungal acne.
Your dry skin is caused by the fungus - your skin will return to normal as the fungus dies
Do you have dandruff or a white tongue? I can provide more targeted advice about which antifungal cream to use if you get back to me with answers to these questions. But start by applying clotrimazole antifungal cream which is a broad spectrum antifungal cream.
The reason that you are likely to have fungal acne, rather than ordinary acne is because the acne got worse after taking antibiotics and it became inflammatory, and because the acne areas are dry (fungus makes skin dry). Antibiotics cause fungal acne - the antibiotics clear the ordinary acne and then the fungus takes over and causes nasty inflammatory acne-like symptoms.
Exfoliating has probably made the acne worse by partly destroying he skin barrier which allows fungus to invade.
Topical anti-fungal creams are totally safe (unlike taking antibiotics which are dangerous) so it is worth seeing if topical antifungal creams fix the acne problem.
If they don't, you have not lost anything. If they do, you have gained much and solved the acne problem cheaply and very safely..
