Thios is most likely fungal acne, which can be fixed by applying topical antifungal creams. Fungal acne is caused by taking antibiotics and a few othe meds.

Have you taken antibiotics Do you have dandruff or a white tongue ? If you get back to me with answers to these questions, I can help you fix the problem. In the meantime keep the affected areas VERY DRY and do not apply any moisturisers or organic oils to the affected areas.

Tretinoin will NOT fix fungal acne. Fungal acne is safely and cheaply treated with topical antifungal cream/s.

Thanks Beautiful

Dandruff is a strong sign that you have fungal acne, not ordinary acne, as dandruff is caused by fungus.

To solve your problem -

1. Stop applying the tretinoin.

2. Instead - buy and apply terbenafine cream (often sold as Lamisil) 2-3 times a day. If you cannot get terbenafine cream without a prescription, buy and apply clotrimazole cream (often sold as Canesten, you won't need a prescription for clotrimazole cream) and apply the clotrimazole cream 2-3 times a day to the affected areas. You can mix terbenafine cream with clotrimazole cream and apply both to the affected areas, if you wish.

3. Do not apply any organic oils or moisturisers to the affected areas.

4. Wash your hair in an antidandruff shampoo.

5. Dust the affected areas with antifungal powder (during the day and night for concealed areas, and at night on your face, if you wish.

6. Keep the affected areas very dry, and wipe off sweat, etc. Try to avoid sweating, if you can.

Do NOT take any antibiotics, unless you have a life threatening condition.

Are the affected areas itchy ?

The problem should resolve in a couple of weeks. If no improvement after a week or so, get back to me.

Beautiful

Dermatologists (and other doctors) know nothing about fungal acne, sadly. They are "in denial" that fungal acne occurs in otherwise healthy people.

I look forward to hearing how things go with you....

Oh dear - how ignorant of them.... (sad)

Folliculitis" is a meaningless term without stating the cause of the folliculitis - follilcultis can be caused by bacteria (acne bacteria, staph bacteria, gram negative bacteria), fungal (candida fungus, malasezzia fungus), mites, some chemicals, etc.

Folliculitis just means something (a pathogen or other irritant) has invaded and is irritating the the hair follicles. Folliculitis is a SYMPTOM of something, NOT a cause.

Acne is a form of folliculitis caused by acne bacteria, so acne and folliculitis are not two different things. One (ie, ordinary acne caused by acne bacteria) is just a sub-set of the other (ie, of the the generic term folliculitis).

In your case you (very probably) have folliculitis caused by malasezzia fungus (because of having dandruff which is also caused by malasezzia).

However, it is simpler, more useful and more correct to call the problem that you have - "fungal acne" rather than folliculitis. This is because fungus (and bacteria) cause problems on the surface of the skin as well as in the follicles.

Calling something folliculitis without stating which type of follicultis is meaningless, as you can see .

Excuse my rant, but I am driven crazy by the lack of knowledge and the general unprofessionalism of dermatologists....
