My acne is really bad and I'm sort of at a loss, nothing really helps. But I'm trying a new skincare routine and it seems to keep breakouts at bay, I'm gonna stick with it for a while.

I'll be honest: I never used to drink water. Like ever. Butmy skin was always fine until I was about 17. I'm 18 now so my acne's been really bad for like a year now and it makes me really depressed. Really, really depressed I'm sure yall on here understand that... It's all I think about when I'm talking to people.

NOW I do drink water. And I'm trying to make sure I drink enough every day. But the thing is that I just don't think I can quit my Cokes and coffees and Red Bulls. I DONT DRINK RED BULL A LOT! I know it's bad but it tastes so good and I cave and drink them sometimes. And I don't drink coffee that much either and when I do I get almond milk bc dairy sucks for my skin. Now, Coke I do drink sort of a lot. Every day. And now I know the immediate response is "STOP", but honestly it brings me so much joy and I know it sounds ridiculous but I have like an emotional attachment to it to be honest. It really makes me have a good day.

SO: Is it possible to drink this stuff and achieve having clear skin if I also drink enough water? I use tea tree oil and lavender oil and witch hazel and aloe vera and black soap and all this stuff but will none of it work if I don't stop drinking this?

I think it just depends on how your skin reacts to those things? Some people have horrible diets and never breakout ever, and other people have immaculate diets but have severe acne. If you think that those things are contributing to your acne then I don't think it's possible for you to have clear skin if you don't stop drinking it. I get that it's hard to stop doing things that make you happy but may not be good for you, but you probably have to choose between clear skin and those drinks. If your acne is making you depressed then you probably look forward to having a coke that would make you happy, but the coke might contribute to your acne, which perpetuates the cycle of breaking out, depression, and then coping mechanism to help the depression. Not a good cycle. Maybe go a week without any sugary/caffeinated drinks and see if that helps your acne and then make a decision to either cut back, stop drinking, or keep drinking.

I know caffeine breaks me out horribly, I get painful cysts from coffee and teas with caffeine, so I had to make the choice to stop drinking coffee even though it was something that made me a lot happier, it was kind of like a mild temporary antidepressant lol. Sugar apparently is very inflammatory and contributes big time to a lot of people's acne as well. If you decide to stop drinking red bulls/cokes you could try flavored sparkling water, flavored teas without caffeine. I hope you can make the best decision for yourself, and its good you are drinking water everyday, keep drinking water everyday!!

Caffeine makes me get pimples, plain and simple. I don't know what causes that to happen, but every time I used to drink caffeine I'd break out with some cystic like pimples. I never drink coffee or soda ever now. In fact, I drink nothing but water with the exception of milk for protein shakes and the occasional beer or maybe some OJ for breakfast. I've heard dairy/milk can also cause acne but doesn't seem to give me many problems. I've always found that the more water and less sugar I take in, the better my skin looks. But everyone is different. Certain people have certain triggers.
