Exfoliating?

Hello all, I am 22 and recently came off the regimen as it was just too much of a hassle for me. I use clean and clear acne wash once a day at night and my skin is near perfect with regards to pimples, no problems. However, I still get flaky skin. I use neutrogena oil free moisturizer to combat the mild dryness and have been using clean and clears exfoliating scrub every other night but I'm just not sure about it. It seems to make my skin way too oily, sensitive and red and even though it's smoother, there's still flakes. Wanted a few more opinions...do I really need to even exfoliate? I never used to before I was on the regimen nor did I ever moisturize, but it seems my skin just gets way too dry now if I don't use a moisturizer. Any thoughts on exfoliating?

I've always heard the you shouldn't exfoliate more than like once or twice a week, so you may be exfoliating too much and it's irritating your skin. I pretty much never exfoliate because it's never helped my skin, usually just irritated it. Just try washing and moisturizing and only exfoliate maybe once a week and see how that works out.

Yeah I think that's too much exfoliating. You should probably just get a better moisturizer to combat the dryness. I like using jojoba oil and shea butter :)

I used to always have dry flaky skin and could never work out why until I ditched the exfoliator scrubs. Since stopping using them I never have dry skin. Sometimes I think they do more harm than good.
