Alright so Im 16 years old, I've had continuously worsening acne for like. Three years, and I started taking birth control about a year ago. Once I started taking it, my skin purged like crazy and my skin kept being super bad for months and then suddenly around May i stopped breaking out and my skin was clearing up nicely. After that my skin was really good and most of the scars and hyperpigmentation faded and I stopped wearing makeup for the most part until about a month and a half ago when my skin decided to break out like crazy. I haven't been doing anything differently with my diet or skincare and I'm suddenly breaking out now on forehead like between my eyebrows and all over my chin in like cystic spots. Im also getting lots of small bumps on my cheeks and general forehead Too. I take amazing care of my skin and I've done so much to try and make it go away but It's just not working and I'm so frustrated. Has anyone else had this happen or does anyone have any ideas as to why this happened or how to stop it ? Thanks ! Also what I've noticed is they start as whiteheads under my skin and suddenly flare up into big red bumps for over a week and then sometimes they pop and sometimes they'd just suddenly get smaller and go away. If they just go away does that mean the gunk is still in there and it will flare up again or is that it?
Hi!
I have finally work out what works for me and here it is in case it works for you!
1) Taking zinc supplements. I can really see the improvement. It's not very expensive and totally worth the money. Definitely try this.
2) First thing when I wake up, I squeeze half a lemon into a glass and add warm water, and drink it. Your skin will be much healthier. Wait 15 minutes before you drink/eat anything if you can.
3) I would definitely recommend rosehip oil. I know the word "oil" is scary but this product is my best discovery so far. I personally use Pai's rosehip bioregenerate oil and it works wonders. You should give it a try, it's worth for its price. It hydrates your skin AND stops spots, honestly. It also fades red marks! I use it 3 times a week before bed, giving it 15 minutes to make sure my skin soaks it fully. If I feel my skin needs an extra boost, some mornings I mix 2 drops of it with my moisturiser, it feels great and it doesn't make my skin shiny at all.
4) I have also been using Skinceuticals blemish+age defense. It's a liquid serum, a bit pricier. I use it twice a day. I feel it has improved my acne but it does dry my skin slightly. Having said that, I can see it's helping with my red marks and I have only been using it for a month. But try the rosehip oil first maybe.
5) I haven't tried this yet, but tonight I'm starting to use Nip+Fab's glycolic fix serum. I have heard very good things about it and it's meant to fade marks and fight spots. I want to use it mainly because it also soothes and smoothes the skin, after so many years fighting acne my skin is looking quite good now but I do have slight scarring. Using a product with glycolic acid it's important if you wanna get rids of red marks, however different products work for different people so you might need to try a few before you find the one. In any case, introduce it slowly so your skin gets used to it gradually. Using it 2-3 times a week is enough.
6) Tria blue light. it's pricey but it works on my skin. It doesn't get rid of cystic acne but the rosehip oil does that. I used to have lots of small spots, specially on my forehead, and they have disappeared. My skin is smoother. Also, if a spot is starting to form, tria stops it.
Try and let me know!
Btw, I was on the pill because of my acne until I started to get bad secondary effects, and I was extremely scared about stopping it. Essentially, the pill itself can give you acne when you stop taking it. I've taken measures and so far my skin is better than it has ever been, but I only stopped a month ago so my hormones could still go crazy! Anyway, I would avoid the pill, but that is personal opinion
