Hey everybody. So I just now found out that Benzoyl Peroxide is a drying agent that speeds up the aging process. Should have done research and found this out sooner but the plus side is that the 5% cream I'm using has been freaking great. But I was wondering if 5% Tea Tree Oil as a spot treatment can be just as effective.

Yes it can be if you're dealing with inflammatory acne and no closed comodeons or blackheads. Tea Tree oil is antibacterial but benzoyl perioxide has added benefit of sloughing of dead skin cells, although not to the ame extent as acids. Tea Tree oil doesn't have that function, but it will kill bacteria! So yes it will be effective on cysts and pus filled pimples, but not on clogged pores.
Re the aging, I'm not sure about it at all, because I've read somewhere the oxidisation process in the skin is so brief it has comparable impact to everyday exposure to light and oxygen, so really it shouldn't have an effect.
The drying can be easily fixed by applying it on top of mouisturiser.

I'd like to hear some opinions on the aging aspect from more informed members though...

Yea same. Thanks for the info though! For right now I only used the BP on problem areas, I don't cover my entire face with it anymore.
