ok so i am on about month 2 of accutane. so far everything has been great. my skin looks great and i feel great. i had really dry chapped lips for the first few weeks but they have since gotten alot better. a few days ago though my face started to peel really badly, the entire thing. i know this is normal but how can i better help it? i have been using lotions 24/7 and it helps for some time, but after an hour or so its back to being totally peeled again. also, will this go away like my lip issue did or will my face be dry and peeled for the entire duration of the meds.
It might be a good idea to add a few drops of jojoba oil to your moisturizer/cleanser. Acne.org actually sells an amazing amount of jojoba oil for the price. The oil will soak into your skin and won't evaporate like water will so you're set for pretty much the whole day. If you have a slight sheen (which you prob will) split a tissue in two so you have a very thin sheet and blot your face after letting the oil soak in.
Also make sure your cleanser is also hydrating and not stripping your skin! If you have seriously dry skin like me, straight up water makes my face feel tight and dry so just splashing it on in the morning is not a good idea for me. Every part of your skincare routine should be mild and hydrating. I suggest Cerave.
Last but not least don't forget to exfoliate 2-3 times a week, and if you're dealing with dry skin go for aha exfoliation rather than bha. Scrubs are tempting but the Aha+ that Acne.org sells is seriously a godsend. Use it at night mixed w/ your moisturizer (not in the day or you'll get major sunburn). Hope that helps!
Hi redsox,
Not sure if this is avialable where you live but I recommend this product: http://www.eucerin.co.uk/products/urea/smoothing-face-cream-5percent-urea
It's a funny texture, it's very light and doesn't clog my pores (and I am incredibly clog prone), it's quite wet and slimely almost, so it's not suitable to use during the day, but it's an excellent night time mouisturiser. It sorted out my dry skin problem within a couple of days. I usually apply it to my face while it's still damp after washing to seal in the mouisture - works like a charm.
Re jojoba oil - I know a lot of poeple say it's suitable for acne prone skin but for me it clogged it up like there's no tomorrow. Still, it seems to work for most people so worth a try, but proceed with caution.
Also, cleanser - super important. I think the cleanser alone causes a lot of acne issues. It has to make your skin feel supple and comfortable, if it makes it feel dry, ditch it immediatly. I find micellar water works for me, any cheap brand will, just watch out for alcohol based products (no good). If you're like me and even water makes your skin feel dry it might be a good option for you.
Unfortunatelly nothing sans manual exfoliation will get rid of the existing flakes if they are stuck to yoour skin in my experience, but be gentle, dry skin is so easy to irritate! Try massaging your skin gently with a dry washcloth, should do the trick
