What do you do with a cyst?

Hello guys,

I have a cyst forming on my left cheek, right beside my nose. Within the last week, it grew quite big, around an inch. Today, the top part has become quite soft but the rest is still very tight, red and painful. To ease the pain, i have been compressing the area with warm cotton pad. My question is what do you guys do when you have a big cyst or cystic nodule (not sure if they are the same thing)? With all things acne related, every article online says not to poke or squeeze the acne. Even with cysts, it is not recommended to squeeze them. But then there are some articles that say we can drain them? How is that different from squeezing. I have another cystic acne or cyst (also about an inch big and quite protruded) on my jawline (left side). This one is three months old now. I have never squeezed it on purpose but it has popped itself due to some rubbing while washing face or putting cream on. And i have had to drain out the pus. How could you not? But it keeps filling up and i am sick and tired of it. I am on antibiotics for cystic acne now ( on third week) but it has not done anything for the cyst yet.

So i guess my question is when you guys have cyst or cystic acne, what do you do? (taking into consideration you have a head). I have read from people that they do not touch the acne andit just dries and falls? That has never happened to me. I have always ended up having acne being popped one way or the other and sometimes, they just fill back up. For me,i thinkgetting rid of the pus by popping them has helped more than just waiting for the acne to dry up. What do you think?

Honestly, when my cysts get big enough to hurt I use the sharp end of a safety pin to drain them. While I have yet to really get into using the regimen consistently, it did wonders for my 17 year old brother who also experienced cystic acne. I use the past tense on purpose because he has all but cleared up.

Unfortunately, I have not had the time or patience for it and just deal with my acne. I have the "I'll get around to it" attitude.

Your cysts get filled again because you do not get rid of the root. You just drain off the pus but then the cyst refills again.

When I have a cyst, I wait for a about a week for white head to appear. Then when the headdries up, I carefully scrub it and try to squeeze all the pus until i feel this 'pop' senstation. If the blood comes out, STOP. Just make sure that you don't press too hard.

That what works for me but may not work for you. Have you considered cortisone injection?

Do not touch it or try to drain it. You risk causing an infection or scaring. If you are able , go to a derm for a cortisone shot. If not, you'll have to wait it out which can take a while. Keep using hot compresses to help the infection come to a head.

My advice is to go to a doctor and get on a course of bactrim (anti-biotic). I've had several cysts throughout my painful struggle with acne, and all the times I've tried to pop them, it's resulted badly, and took forever for them to go away. The last time I had one for a week, still wouldn't go away, so I tried to pop it, and of course nothing came out, and I realized I can't go through this again..waiting to get something out of it, waiting for the swellness to go down, risking an infection, etc, so, I called my general doctor and he gave me a 10 day prescription for bactrim. It went down pretty quickly, and left little scarring.

I would highly recommend that route rather than doing anything yourself involving a pin or anything which could result in infection.

Neosporin cream. I just used this on a cyst and it took the swelling down and healed faster than anything I ever tried which is pretty much everything

I used to slice mine open with a razor blade, done it a few times over the years, not the slightest mark on face now
