Hi

I am new to this whole thing but I guess we are all in the same boat. I have read a lot of stories on here and various different forums. Each person has there own opinions but I can never find one related to what I think. I was once a person who had clear skin. I have a lot of attention of people and never did I think I would be affected by something like this. But my god, How I was wrong and How it has ruined my life.

It started through high school, But it was never severe enough for me to be worried. Yeah you'd get the occasional remarks but that's just something I had to deal with. But then I seemed to just get rid of it. But October of 2014 that's when it got worse. I went to my GP, Told him how it was affecting me. He just gave me antibiotics Erythromycin. I was happy because I'd never taken tablets. I thought this would sort it. How wrong was I? I then went back two months after. He once again gave me another antibiotic Oxytretracycline and he referred me to my dermatologist, This was getting to much for me. Acne was ruining my life, I wasn't going out at all. Did that rush the Dermatologist appointment ? Did it heck!!. January the 7th got. After a terrible Christmas and new year. because of it. Derm checked me. Gave me Differin .1 and Acnecide. Followed my Lymecycline. I took this till April. During the time. My acne got majorly worse before better. I lost my girlfriend because of it. I probably went out for like 10 days between October and April the following year. I told the Dermatologist in April how It's affecting me. He said he would refer me to the Hospital for Accutane. Got a letter was told, It would be August the 27th. Unbelievable. Another reason why I think I was alone. Something that affects you so much but you continue to stick to the strict regime in all hope you one day become clear. But the realisation that you know it wont work. But who cares eh? Your just gonna have to wait 4 months. That's was summer ruined. I am a week away now. How I have felt like giving up.

Its destroyed me. Every part of my confidence has gone. Cant remember the time, I wanted to go out. I am 18 years old should be enjoying my teenage years. But Nope. I am praying the hospital with gave me Accutane. But I know there are side affects but I have suffered enough. I am desperate now

I completely understand what your going through, and don't worry.. IT WILL get better eventually. :)

I delt with severe acne all throughout highschool and most of college, and it gave me depression and very bad social anxiety.. I skipped my classes so people in my class wouldnt have to see my face. It got so bad to the point where i stopped going out, and attending social events with friends (I was a very social, confident person before all that). Heck! I even missed my own PROM because of it.

My advice? Dont let acne control your life. Life is short and should be lived up till its full potential. Dont let your outward appearance stop you from doing whatever you want because you know what? That is one of my greatest regrets, to have missed everything i COULD of done.

When i had my acne, i tried basically every.product.under.the.sun. I went on oral medication (even accutane at one point but i stopped because my symptoms were SO bad), wasted all my money on cleansers, toners, moisturizers, etc that claimed to "cure" my acne but did the exact opposite and just irritated it further.

then i thought.. What if i just leave my skin alone? Our skin is one of our largest organs, and i firmly believe all these commerical products are doing more harm then good for it. Everyone has a thin layer on their faces called the "acid mantle", and this is what keeps bacteria/infections from invading your skin and causing acne in the first place. But once you wash that layer off, your face is vulnerable to bacteria and infection from harbouring into your skin. Leaving your face alone, without the use of any products (and a proper, clean diet can help as well although it isnt a direct cure) can give your skin time to HEAL itself (Imagine if you got cut on your body, a few days later it heals over and a scab forms.. a few more days later its virtually gone..same concept for your skin)

So whats my regimen?

1. every 2-3 days i take a spritz bottle and fill it up with boiled or spring water and spray my face a few times and let it air dry

2. eat healthy, fresh veggies/fruits and LOTS of water (helps push toxins out of your skin, and heals it faster)

3. Dont stress, because stress can cause nasty effects emotionally, and physically through your skin. lowering stress/anxiety levels have really made a big difference for me

4. Go out! get some fresh air, hang out with friends, and try to stay active! and try not to think about your skin

If you decide to try this out please stick with this for a month or two, this healed my acne 100% after 3-4 weeks and i havent had a single pimple in 3 years :)

For more info.. this method is called the "caveman regimen" or the "water-only method" and theres tons of info about it online.
