:ermm: Today 6/29/2015 I am starting The Caveman regimen. My skin got very bad when I was 15. Very cystic, very oily, but that was after I overused over-the-counter skin products (I'm such an idiot). I had cysts on my face and neck along with normal pimps (pimples) on my face and neck, but never much on the rest of my bod. I got put on Accutane (I don't remember how much. Probably a lot) and shit got way better. But that was 3.5 years ago, so since then the pimps have come back along with the oil and 50 gallons of dead skin. I've tried all the home remedies, all the topicals, all the retin A's, and the magic spells, prayers etc. Nothing has worked. The issue now is mainly the dead skin; it clogs my pores and causes the pimps, but not matter what I do to remove the dead skin, it's always back the next day. So I'm starting The Caveman regimen today and hoping for a miracle before I give up and go cry in a hole. I will post updates on my things are going every few days. I would appreciate any advice/tips and all that jazz. And some extra info, I'm a 19 year old human of the male specimen. Thanks dudes, wish me luck

2nd DAY UPDATE 7/1/15:My skin has gotten oilier, there is a lot of dead skin on either side of my nose and my chin and small breakouts mainly on my chin. Things haven't gotten as bad as I thought they would, but it IS only the 2nd day so it will get much worse before it gets better probably. It's a very strange feeling to not wash my face anymore or spend half a day in the bathroom in front of the mirror. It's liberating, but I look a lil freaky so idk

5th DAY UPDATE 7/3/15: The dead skin continued to get worse and I could see a lot of white heads coming up because of it, so I manually exfoliated with a clean washcloth in the shower ( I still wet my face in the shower when I'm rinsing my hair ) and that helped a lot. I'll probably do that every other day since my skin is shedding so much and hopefully it will eventually slow/stop.

How's it going with the regimen? I've been doing this for 3 days now and damn my face is dry D: doesn't look oily more though, so that's a plus. Keep me updated! ^^

@Volantum

What kind of acne/skin type/problems do you have?? And are you doing no water at all, or rinsing with water?

17th DAY UPDATE: 7/19/15: I haven't updated lately because there have not been many changes, I am still getting my face wet in the shower and doing light exfoliating about every other day, my breakouts have become very minimal (4-5 very tiny white heads on my chin and a few over on my sideburn area), but my biggest problem continues to be the dead skin and the oil. I'm sticking with this for a while longer in hopes that my skin will be able to repair itself back to how it used to be so that that oil and dead skin will stop, or drastically decrease

1 MONTH UPDATE: 8/1/15: I'm becoming very disheartened and gloomy. I'm starting to feel hopeless again. There have been many changes... My main issue has been and continues to be dead skin on my face.. It causes me to breakout, and so far it hasn't subsided.. If anyone has gone through something similar please give me some info on this.. I'm exfoliating about every other day in the shower with a washcloth, and hoping that soon (because of this regimen) it will begin to slow/stop shedding skin so quickly. I'm still continuing the regimen, but I'm not sure for how much longer. SOS

Idk how long it's been now, but I have decided to stop exoliating about a week ago, because I felt that it was just worsening things/prolonging the healing process. I'm not sure what's happening now, I haven't looked in a mirror for this whole week and i'm going to continue it for maybe another week before I do, and I will be sure to update with the results. And also i'm getting my face wet as little as possible when I shower now.

I created my own thread about a modified caveman regimen which has worked wonders for me along with others. None of these people however were ever put on accutane. Its normal for someone who has used a lot of OTC skincare products overtime to experience dryness of the skin a few days in to starting the caveman regimen, however in your case it seems to be excessive. Its possible that the way you are exfoliating is causing skin irritation. Rubbing your skin with a wash cloth especially every other day can aggravate the skin. Your skin is going to be very sensitive so try exfoliating with with something more gentle like oatmeal. Just simple crushed oats and lukewarm water. Gently rub it around your face for 10 minutes and wash it off. Finish off with a splash of cold water and towel dry without rubbing. Oatmeal also has anti-bacterial properties so you should definitely consider it. And remember, only wash your face or exfoliate if you need to.

Good luck

I am also starting the cave man regimen, and so far its the third day and everything has been going pretty well!! No new pimples, scars/the rest of my face seems to be healing a bit too :P

Dry flaky skin.. hmm have you ever considered a possibility that you might have seborrihec dermititis? I've had it for a couple years when i was younger and i cured all my dry/flaky skin problems with a candida cleanse and a proper diet of course

Also, since your pretty long into this regimen, it could mean that all the extra dead skin cells are your skins response to healing itself? "dead skin mask" usually happens a few weeks-months into this regimen. its completely normal, and it usually goes away after your skin is done "repairing" itself.

Thanks for your input! I don't think my skin is dry. That's why I don't understand why it's doing this. I used to use moisturizers often, as well as sweat out from physical activity and I always drink a lot of water. And i've tried other exoliants such as sugar, and they just don't work as well.. I was very gentle when I was using the wash cloth. And how do I know when I NEED to exfoliate? I looked in the mirror today for the first time in awhile and the dead skin is just caked on.. But if it's still healing I might to leave it... I have no idea what to do.

@Lunabear7

Wow, I'm glad that it seems to be working so quickly for you! That's great. And no I haven't considered seborrihec dermititis. I just looked up the symtoms and I don't think I have it. I don't itch much and my skin isn't red or irritated.. it's still a possibilty though.

and I really hope so. I just don't know though.. If the dead skin isn't coming off on it's own now, how would it later?

UPDATE: day: I don't know

I looked in the mirror today for the first time is awhile and the dead skin is pretty thickly caked on.. With quite a few underlying breakouts. My self esteem and confidence have been gone for a long time now, but now they're even goner. I'm hoping i'm at the "dead skin mask" stage and that my skin is continuing to repair itself, but who knows. Debating on whether or not I should exfoliate.. I'm probably going to make a dermatology appointment because I am just so lost. Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated

Realistically I don't think anyone really *needs* to exfoliate. The dead skin mask is a result of your skin trying to adapt to just washing with water and heal itself at the same time. Once your skin is healed it shouldn't come back. For me personally, I had the dead skin mask for about three days and I got tired of the itchyness so I choose to exfoliate with oatmeal. After exfoliating, my skin was noticeably smoother, but I broke out a bit right after. I didn't remove all the dead skin, but I got most of it. The rest came off on its own. Looking back I don't think I had to exfoliate, it just speed up the process a bit. Maybe you should just try leaving your skin alone for a bit

UPDATE: It's been a long time

I decided to exfoliate like 5 days ago.. (due to possibilities of a new job) it was a huge pain, even though the skin is dead and just sitting there it doesn not come off easily, it seems to stick, but I got most of it off, and the skin underneath was very smooth with surprisingly not too many breakouts. I looked in the mirror today for the first time since then and it's starting to pile up again :( my school is going to start up again very soon and I won't be able to do this any longer, so does anybody have ideas for a daily routine I could do? I don't feel like I need to wash my face daily anymore, but I really need a way to keep this dead skin off while still letting my skin heal so it will eventually subside. I also got a derm appointment, but of course that's not until october, after school has already started. Any suggestions/ideas will be greatly appreciated !!!

FINAL UPDATE: It's been a long time

Okay, so it's been a long time since I last updated, and i'm only really doing this to possibly help others or maybe just give them hope. I am doing a lot better. I got put on Prozac to help with my depression, and my dermatologist prescribed me a selenium sulfide shampoo to use twice a week as a face wash and it has done miracles. If only I had discovered it before last summer haha. But anyways the selenium sulfide stuff has really helped my dead skin which minimizes breakouts. On days when I don't use that, I was my face with a gentle cleanser. Once and awhile i'll do a sugar scrub to exfoliate, but only maybe once a week. I use moisturizer on my face twice a day, once after shower and once before bed. Things aren't perfect, but they are much better. Good luck to everyone else out there. There is a cure for all of us, you've just gotta find it. Please feel free to ask me any questions <3
