Big Red Bump After Popping A Pimple - Very Depressed, Please Help

i don't know what to do, i really never had anything like that on my skin and i truly want to die. please help me.

yesterday i popped a medium-sized pimple on my forehead. i know you're not supposed to do this but the pimple had a clear whitehead and it looked as if it was ready to pop. maybe it was a little bit hard when i touched it but i didn't pay attention to it because it didn't hurt at all like those deep blind pimples do. after i popped it (twice) all the awful stuff came out so i disinfected it and left it alone. i woke up with a big red bump. the skin is swollen all around it - the red bump is maybe 1,5 cm but the swelling has a wider radius. it looks as if somebody has punched me in the forehead. and it's not the normal kind of swelling that occurs after popping a pimple and goes away after hour or two - it didn't go away after the whole day. it doesn't hurt even the slightest so i hope that that's not a nodule or anything like that. can you possibly know what that is and what can i do to make it go away? i feel like a worthless piece of crap.

i attach the picture of the bump (you can't see the swelling around the red spot on this picture but trust me, you can feel it when you touch it and also it is quite visible when looking from the side):

Don't feel bad. Leave it alone for a while. It looks like the redness around it will go away soon. It looks like it just refilled itself with puss. I recommend leaving it alone, but hey. Do what you gotta do. If you leave it alone, it may take longer than if you got all of it out. And I mean all of it. But if you get it all out, it may scab which will last even longer. So, it's your call, but I suggest waiting a day or more until its ready to be popped, or it takes care of itself.

Hi! That's the kind of inflammation a cortisone shot is perfect for. And it being on your forehead, there is low chance of any kind of indentation (if you are worried about that). Good luck!

Thank you both so much! Your answers have really calmed me down.

After two days it looks different - smaller and flatter but more red than pink. when i touch it hurts a bit but not like a deep pimple, more like a wound (you know, the kind of surface pain). when i tried to squeeze it a bit, transparent fluid came out from the whole spot. it looks like a damaged tissue of the skin. it's still a bit bumpy.

megtree, how do you get a cortisone shot and is it effective for healing something like this? and until i get one, what should i use to make it go away faster? i have put a topical cream with hydrocortisone acetate and oxytetracycline on it but i'm not sure if it helps.

Hi! I would leave it alone at this point - definitely stop squeezing it. It sounds like it's healing up now, so it should become flatter and the pore should reduce in size over a couple of days. The redness will likely stick around though, may be a few weeks before it fades.

A cortisone shot is a small injection of steroid a dermatologist provides directly into the inflammed nodule. This has the effect of immediately reducing inflammation, flattening out the nodule within 24 hours and speeding overall healing time.

This has happened to me! Actually, it kind of happens all the time lately lol. What works best for me is to not touch it - keep your fingers away!!! I know it's tempting to not squeeze it but let it go away on its own. You can ice it, put some bp, sa, or even aloe vera on it. I like to spot treat mine with queen helene mint julep mask (so cheap and it's in every store) or Aztec healing clay (whole foods store) and I mix it with acv or tea tree oil. These will help heal the pimple. I usually leave my spot treatment on for as long as I feel like it, wash it off, let it dry and breathe, and re-apply. Patience is the key here - it will heal and it will go away. Just don't try popping it again!
