"What's wrong with your face?" - asked by my neighbour's children, lovely kids. They couldn't understand why I then broke into tears.

"Urgh, I know what you mean, my spots are just awful at the moment" - said by one of my best friends trying to make me feel better. I want to sympathise, I really do, but her skin is lovely and she only had two or three tiny pimples.

"Your skin's got worse" - thanks, I'd noticed.

Also - the things doctors say. Here in the UK you have to be referred to see a Dermatologist, so normally you just see a GP - and they know NOTHING! My doctor tried to put me on Accutane and I asked him about the possible side-effects. And he said that there were no side-effects, just rubbish and lies that people put on the internet. Now, I know some people get on with Accutane just fine, but the multitude of side effects is a big deal and I think someone should at least be warned about them before their Doctor just goes and prescribes it.

Also - how many of you have gone to a Doctor and known more about acne and its treatments than them? When you can give them the ingredients in certain treatments and they have to spend 10 minutes looking them up in a book, that's a little disheartening.

Guys, thank you. Every single one of you. This thread has made my morning.

Here are a few of my own.

"Oh, you don't need to worry about that." Said by an acquaintance who demanded to know why I ordered a soy latte. Um, excuse me, no. You don't get to decide whether I want to try to repair my skin or not - and it was especially hurtful as I had been receiving comments about how bad it was the day before.

"There's a doctor at x hospital who specialises in treating leprosy, perhaps you should make an appointment." Probably the most hurtful thing that has ever been said to me in full seriousness, ie she was really honestly trying to be helpful. This is also related to the fact that I live in a third world country where leprosy is actually still a thing and what most westerners would consider standard cheap face washes are expensive luxury products. But still.

"Have you tried...?" Ugh. Either yes, I have, or no, I haven't because I think that's a stupid idea. I'm sorry, but I know more about this than you. Significantly more. And I'll decide what I try next.

"Just change your b/c!" Did it ever occur to you that I might be on this particular b/c for a reason?? That I've tried many other kinds and this one deals with my other symptoms most effectively? And that although I complain about and hate my acne, I actually prefer it to the crazed emotional state other b/cs put me in? No, thank you. I'll be sticking with this one.

"That looks sore." Really, does it? Well guess what - it is!! Aren't you clever!!

"What's wrong with your face?" Generally said with real concern, but gee, I wish people had the tact to pretend they couldn't see it...

Worked at a retail store for a summer job before going back to schoolSOOOO many older ladies and teenagers had things to say.

"Honey, I have a good dermatologist you want his number?"

"Don't worry honey it will go away soon enough, at least you're tall!"..What?

"Dude that have lasers for that now"

"Someone had a little too much junk food growing up didn't they?".That one hurt

"Honey and Lemon just try it, everyone would enjoy being around you more!"

This whole thread made me smile. I can totally relate! It is so nice to not feel alone.

Some of mine:

Just rub lemon and honey on it.

Kid saying why do you have buttons and bumps all over your face?

You should try _____ (when I did NOT ask for an opinion.)

The worst for sure is definitely when a friend with ONE or TWO pimples complains that she is breaking out and looks so gross. Uhm... Yeah hello, my face is covered in acne.

This is the one I get alot..

"Wow if you took better care of your skin you'd have no problems."

"Eww look at your acne"

But i stay happy because I know it will go eventually and besides karma always comes back. Plus people

without acne dont know any better. :)
