Hello people.
Im starting this monday accutane 40/mg per day, since my acne has gotten progressively worse this last 4 months.
I know it does wonders with inflammatory acne, whose i don't have a lot but i do have, and they are leaving minor scars and marks.
But my mainly concern is that, most of my acne is comedonal, millons and i mean MILLONS of tiny under the skin bumps on my cheeks, sides of the forehead and forehead. Most of them really tiny.
I know that comedones and blackheads are treated by the same way. Im not expecting to be crystal clear, but at least get an noticeable reduced amount of comedones, since i don't felt my skin smooth in years.
So any experiences in accutane with moderate comedonal acne with a fairly amount of inflammatory lesions ?
Does accutane eliminate closed comedones ?
I'd love an update as well because tbh I think I'm heading in that way.
My blackheads and closed comedones literally evaporated in two months of accutane. Unfortunately, for comedones to go,some of them have to transform into pimples,so i had a bad breakout.
I'm on my third month,40 mg. I still have some black heads and comedones there and there, but they are less than 10.
So yes, accutane do wonders with closed comedones and blackheads. I't may take a little bit more to eradicate them since they are like the first step of a pimple.
Good to hear man!
I sadly can't see me getting Accutane as my doc does not feel the "need" to refer me to a derm. She says I can get anything the derm will give me on prescription apart from Accutane specifically. And she believes my acne is not needing Accutane so the derm would probably not give me it anyway...
Only thing I can get is a retinoid but I am scared as hell for the IB's but then I keep thinking..I would have had a bad IB on Accutane anyway, right?

Thanks you !
Not even on a really low dosage ? If the comedonal acne is really affecting aspects of your life, you should talk again with your doc. Anyways you should try everything before going on Accutane. Comedonal acne usually responds pretty good with retinoid topicals.
My problem was that my comedones were already purging from using Differin (during one month and a half). For some odd reason Differin made my skin super mega oily that didn't went away even after stopping it.
So,this combination of massive comedones purging + the over oily skin that was causing more acne (and more comedones) made me go into Accutane (obviously after trying 4 more prescription that did more harm to my skin).
The purging from Differin was actually a good sign, but i had such a large amount of comedones, that the pimples, that the purging phase was causing, were leaving scars plus the oily skin causing more acne..it was like a never ending cycle
Sucks so bad that i had such a bad reaction to Differin. This usually doesn't happen at all. But i wouldn't recommend Differin to anybody.
Also, the derm who prescribed me Differin was really dumb. She knew i was going to have a really bad purging,so she should have prescribed me short-term antibiotics in order to control the breakout. But well..the over oily skin reaction was going to happen anyway.
You can try with Retin-a or Tazorac. Or even you can go with Differin, most people haves good results with it.
Keep me upgraded !
I know this is a year ago, but I have been reading these forums like crazy!
I am 19 years old and I have had acne since elementary school. I have a mix of comedonal and nodular. I'd say the ratio is for every big red cyst or pime I have probably 30 closed/open comedones to match. All over my fave chest and back I have acne and I have tried EVERYTHING.
FINALLY I have the green light to begin Accutane. Today I have started my first dosage (40 mg twice a day). I am so excited for this journey! You're story has given me hope because I have read so many failure stories for my type of acne.
With you having a similar situation I was wondering what your initial break out was like since we don't already have cyatic acne. Was it awful? How was your dryness? I'm taking vitamin E supplements to combat dryness from inside out. I'm so excited to see you've had success, I hope the same goes for me!
