Hi,
I usually don't have a lot of acne. I do have blackheads. A few days ago, I suddenly got these bumps on my forehead. They're near my hairline and in a cluster. They are skin colored, unless irritated. They're mainly visible under direct light and at an angle. They are hard but can be squeezed (I tried one unfortunately). They sometimes itch.
I don't wear makeup. I usually just use plain soap for washing. I'm also well past my teens.
Can someone help identify them so I can buy over the counter medicines for treatment? I looked at the forum, and it seems like this type of thing could be milia, comedones, clogged pores, folliculitis, etc.
I kind of think they're either clogged pores or comedones.
From what you have explained it sounds like 'pityrosporum folliculitis'. My recommendation is to see a GP or practitioner in order to get a diagnosis. Treatments can range from nizoral, tea tree oil (diluted with water), fungus creams etc. Have a look at this condition, there are numerous threads about it on here that could be of benefit. All the best.
They sound like closed comedones to me. I had a run with those a while back, and picking, popping and scratching them really truly only makes them worse. I recommend a glycolic acid moisturizer (or peel) to start moving them along. They will (eventually) go away, but they take a while. They are basically clogged pores in the absence of inflammation, which makes them relatively benign aside from looking pretty bad in harsh light. Plain soap isn't the best thing for washing your face. I recommend a cleanser with salicylic acid and a moisturizer with glycolic acid to clear out the clogged pores, and I suspect they will start to look better in a couple of weeks. A retinol night cream also helps pores keep clean.
Best of luck to you!
Hi,
I was wondering whether anyone could help me with identifying with some annoying bumps that I have had on my forehead for two years. My forehead is my main concern, I do get cystic acne now and then on my cheek but its manageable and I can live with it.
But my forehead is so annoying, no matter what I do or use , it doesn't seem to go and this just happened one day all of a sudden. So i don't know what the culprit is that's caused it.
The doctors say its just mild acne and I have used all sorts of over the counter medication such as quinoderm, finacea and differin which has done nothing.
I would be really grateful if someone could tell me what this is on my forehead please and the doctors wont refer me to a dermatologist as I supposedly have 'mild' acne
Any help would be much appreciated
Heres a photo of the nastiness on my forehead
Please be kind I know its ergghh to look at

Hi,
Thanks for replying
Have you been to see a doctor or a dermatologist? Also, how long have you had this on your face for? Also, is this acne or is this something else do you know?
I do get the time of the month cysts on my face ...but Im not too concerned about them . I just hate the rough bumpy texture on my forehead and want to get rid of it . It's so horrible as you can't do anything to make it appear smoother .
I have always had slightly bumpy textured skin a lot of trapped clogged pores I think. I never used to wash my face as even just splashing my face with water can irritate it So I used to be really lazy and believe it may be part of the reason. But almost a year ago I started to get acne mainly around my chin and slightly up onto my cheeks. It came out of nowhere and I then began to say ok I need to look after my skin now but nothing seemed to help so I stopped doing everything to it and it wont go. The bumps in general all over my skin I don't think are acne though they have gotten worse since the acne started. My acne takes ages to die down and usually stay a big red lump under the skin for ages.
I have been looking at ways to exfoliate in hope of removing the bumps and because my skin is extemely sensitive and dry! I have bought 4 samples of product from paula's choice...2 bha lotions and 2 aha ones. The bha ones are meant to unclog pores which is what I really want the most.
If these don't help im definitely going to see a dermatologist. Ive been using cetaphil moisturising cream for a week because my skin went crazy the other week was so dry and sensitive and its great for getting rid of the dryness but im sure its clogging me up and I have some blackheads where I didn't before Making my skin look even bumpier.
Im really not sure what the bumps are called. There seems so many types of things. Think the best thing is to go to a dermatologist really That's my next port of call after trying these BHA and AHA ones. Really nervous about using them though :/ I hope you find something to work for yours. x
