Why Cleanse?

I have had acne for a good 14 years now and have used every acne product on the market. One conclusion that I have came to for myself is that using a cleanser is unnecessary. It makes my skin much drier and makes no difference in how much acne that I get. I have been clear while using BP with a cleanser and without. The only difference is when I use a cleanser, my face is so much drier all the time even with using a heavy moisturizer.

A cleanser does just as good a job at removing excess oil off my face as water and the oil comes back shortly anyway. I am just wondering is there anything else that I am really missing by not cleansing?

If cleansers don't work for you then you don't have to use them. When I do not wash my face with a cleanser I can't get all the oil off so for people like me it is a necessity. You could try cleansing with a carrier oil. A carrier oil will get all the oil off and shouldn't dry out your skin.

Cleansing helps me a lot. My skin produces a lot of sebum, and overproduction of sebum causes acne. Cleansing gets rid of the excess sebum and bacteria leaving my skin cleaner and fresher. I use a mild soap (Dr bronners Castile soap).

I've gone months without a cleanser and cleared my acne. Every skins different. The goal is zero breakouts however you go about it.

Yeah its such a weird process huh? the first 6 months of 2013 i had maybe 5-7 spots on my face/jawline, I just got my own apartment and new car so everything was looking amazing. This whole time all i did was take a shower at night sometimes maybe even skipping it, the point being i never had any type of regime what so ever. So now the second half of 2013 ive had breakouts over and over again which all started with horrible cystic acne for a a month pretty much anywhere on my body. I just don't get it. i"m sure a regime would help a little but i'm trying to spend that time trying to find the root cause instead. So tired of purchasing products, creams, gels, serums and what not with no avail. Im 100% certain its an internal problem in my case from 20 odd years of eating a shitty standard american diet that I was brought up on and brainwashed into believing it was the way to go (You need cows milk for strong bones hurr durr).

I agree with you, cleansing is not necessary it just gets rid of our acid mantle which we need to fight off acne in the first place. Plus I've read around, and apparently its a bad beauty habit to clean your face in the morning because we wake up with natural oils on our face, which shouldn't be washed away as it keeps our face not dry and is good for it.

I've found that cleansing helps me by disintegrating keratin plugs. Yeah, it's not solving the underlying problem, but it's helping me to stay sane while my body heals.

I has very oily skin and don't cleanse. I think it does more harm than good.

I agree. I only use water now to wash my face, still apply my BP, and my results are just as good if not better as there is no excessive dryness.
