Hi, I'm a nineteen year old female college student. I've had mild acne in the past, but I've dealt with it much less since starting college and I've never had an extremely severe breakout. However, I've recently had a breakout on my forehead that I can't explain.
This past Sunday I woke up for church and my skin appeared normal. I went about my day as usual, and around 6 I drove two hours from home back to where I attend school (I was off for Thanksgiving.) In the car, I happened to touch my forehead and felt a few pimples in between my eyes. I didn't think much of it, but when i got to school I looked closer. Literally my entire forehead is COVERED in acne that had not been there that morning. It is by far the most severe breakout of acne I've ever had.
I can't think of anything that I encountered on Sunday that would have caused this, but it has yet to improve at all. Is it common for acne to appear that quickly? Any help is greatly appreciated!
If it looks like this:
then it might be fungal folliculitis. It usually flares up and goes away on its own, but it can be brought on by using antibiotics or birth control pills. If it's recurring, you can try washing your forehead with nizoral shampoo twice a day. Make sure you let it sit for 3-5 minutes before rinsing. It got rid of mine in less than a week.
If you're going to see your doctor, bring up folliculitis as a possibility- doctors often misdiagnose it for acne or dermatitis. (3 docs missed it for me!)
