Hey guys,

I'm called Luke and I'm a 15 year old scandinavian.

I've had acne since I was 11, and all of a sudden, a year ago my acne started flaring up alot, and I got it on my cheeks, neck, back and almost everywhere else.

Before that I only had forehad acne which wasn't very bad.

So, It's recentely started getting ALOT worse than usual, and below are pics of what I've been getting. I'm not quite sure if it's severe, but it's not moderate or mild either. In my class of 50 kids, I'm one out of 2 with acne, and by far worse acne than the other guy.

My parents had acne but not nearly as bad, and my teenager siblings are 99% clear.

My Dermatologist reccomended Accutane, which I have currently decided to take, because I'm very tired of it. I'm not stressed or really depressed, I don't do very much sport, I swim occasionally, and I'm pretty relaxed. Problem is this stuff lowers my self-esteem by just about 99.99%. A year ago I was pretty popular in class and school and now I sit alone wherever I go, and only have a couple friends who accept it.

Rate my acne guys, and tell me what you think.

your acne's not that bad man :)

I wouldnt do acccutane if I were you. Just keep washing your face twice a day, use a toner, and moisturise with an anti acne moisturizer. Your only 15, it will go away. Dont worry so much, at least its not terrible giant cyst, and other bad stuff that some unfortunate people have to suffer. I would just think to myself if I were, it could be a hell of alot worse, but its not. By the way you have mild acne in my opinion, just your forhead is borderline moderate, its definetly not severe.

Don't take accutane, your acne is mostly just pimples, the kind that many teenagers get.

Your forehead looks a tad worse than the rest of your face, this is probably due to you hair touching it all day long.

You say the acne got worse recently, think hard about what has changed recently, especially in the way you clean your face and in your diet. It could be just hormonal and probably is but there's still way to manage it so that you breakout less or barely at all.

Let us know.

P.S. Get a new dermatologist too or don't go back, that guy should be ashamed of himself prescribing you accutane for what is basically just teenage pimples.

I haven't changed anything in my diet or anything. In fact i've been taking more vitamins and eating more nutrition than I normally would. When I get breakouts, the acne gets a step worse and so on. I have a dermatologist and they reccomended accutane, but at first I refused, but now I'm having second thoughts. These pictures arent very clear, but the acne on my forehead is bad. I recentely have hair covering it, and thats why its bad. Its sort of a vicous cycle, I cover it so people dont see it, but if I cover it, it gets worse. Whenever Im alone I tend to clear my face oh any hair. It aint just teenage pimples, and i expect this to get ALOT worse. Ive had acne since elleven (so 4 years now) and people who get acne earlier on tend to have much more severe acne later. Recentely out of nowhere I had a breakout on my chest and its just awfull. From clear to many large pimples in a matter of weeks. Also my neck, cheek and arms. Im starting to get acne on my lower arms and legs. Its really bad. I just dont know what to say. I try to cover my arms but its just gross.

Go away soon? It's just started! And not only has it started but it's spreading... I have it everywhere imaginable. Arms, legs, back, chest, neck and even got a couple on hands. And im not saying upper arms, i mean lower arms, and lower legs on the shins for example.. I doubt it'll go away any time soon, and that's why i've decided to take accutane. It's ruining my life as in nobody has any acne around me. I lose friends, and my self esteem is zero. Why haven't doctors found a decent enough cure for this yet?! I think i'm most likely to get much more severe acne like some of you guys, i mean, what says I won't. Might as well try and get rid of it while i can... It has ruined me... Sometimes I just like to think about what I could do or wear if I didn't have it, it's basically limiting me from living a normal life.

It seems accutane is really the last resort I have.

Oh and btw for those who don't think it's bad. I mean look at it. There are barely any places where i don't have pimples. And those clusters on the cheeks involve cysts, which i also get in my ears. The arms and legs are the worst. There are maybe a dozen but they look terrible.

Edit: im also starting to scar

Cysts and scaring? The answer is obvious, accutane. I don't mean to scare you, but my acne looked just like yours did when I was your age, which then progressed to cysts behind my ears then finally large cysts on my face.

I have similar skin, I also had it on my chest and back, within 5 minutes of being inside my dermatologists office I was prescripted roaccutane. Roaccutane helps the breakouts underneath the skin and I would recommend it to anyone with bad skin, after trying other medicines first of course. And I am glad I am on it, the earlier you use roaccutane, the less amount of dosage you'll need and you won't need it for as long. Definatley recommend it.

Everybody seems to think this, but you can't really have a cure when it's the food you're eating that is causing it. I suggest taking a look at the holisitic health forum.

lol food doesn't cause acne, it only aggravates existing acne.

i say go ahead with the accutane, i'm halfway through it now and it's working great. kinda wish i would have started when i was your age instead of letting it get worse. i don't moisturize or anything on it either, just some lip balm and i'm good to go.

See if you can hold off a little longer and see what is truly aggravating it. Yes, you are young, so hormones are probably the main reason. However, your body should be able to handle it to an extent where it wouldn't be that bad. There may be other things that are causing trouble for your body. For example, I noticed that my acne always gets better when I go on vacation. I finally realized it must be the water. The water at my house does have all the signs of hard water such as white spots left over and the soap is hard to lather. I recently installed an Aquasana filter and it has helped me loads. My face is no loger red when I get out of the shower, and I can see a big improvement in my acne. This may not be the problem for you but remember Accutane is a very severe treatment. I would consider it my very last option and only if my acne was much worse than what you have. Think about your long term health. Good luck!

I did hold off until now.

I went to the dermatologist yesterday, and she really reccomended accutane. To be honest I'd better get rid of the problem earlier before it start's getting much worse don't you think? So I just had a blood test this morning, and already bought 2 boxes of pills: One month worth of 20mg + 10mg.. So wish me luck and I will keep this thread open with news of my acne.

Also, I see your point about the water and all, and I actually realised that as I was on holiday it got better.. But of course, better water will never cure it all the way. THe matter of fact is, a year ago I had 90% clear skin. Now I have I would say 40% clear skin.. What next?

So, atm it's day 4 on accutane. I don't really know what to say. I haven't seen any side effects yet (no dryness) except sometimes the lips. The improvement is slightly visible, but I'm gonna wait a bit before saying anything. I don't know if I'll get an IB but I hope not.

Good luck with accutane. I agree, that you should take it and get it under control now. I just started mine (i think on the exact same day as yours) because i'm on day 6.

I'm a 17 year old female and I definitely wish I got on accutane earlier. I had moderate acne and washed and stuck to a perfect regime and kept hopping it would go away. Well, I was wrong and it just kept getting worse and my self esteem kept getting lower and lower.

I'm trying my hardest to keep myself positive but it's proving to be difficult every time I have to look at myself in the mirror. Pleaseeee work accutane!

Good luck and if you need any support feel free to message me. We're in this together!

Ok guys. Almost 2 weeks on Accutane. Here's what I can say:

Side effects are really kicking in:

Dry Lips, Very bad back pain occasionally, and some excrucaiting joint pain related to a disease I already had, but i got something to make it go away.

What improvements I'm seeing:

Ever since I started taking this drug I have had no breakouts on my face whatsoever. In certain lights, my right cheek is completely clear actually, and I'm very happy with this. What I'm trying to get rid of most with this drug is body acne however. My facial acne doesn't affect me as much as my body acne. Having spots on my arms just kills me, same with legs, and I have one that's been here for a month, and it's really starting to bug me. Anyway. So far so good. I don't think I should expect an IB though. Anyway. I hope this is gone within 3-4 months so I can lead a normal life again. Thanks to all the supporters. I love you all!

Hey i'm going to follow your log because we're about in the same time. I'm on day 12 so i'm assuming were almost on the same day.

I've also had the terrible joint pains, especially in my back. As well as the dry lips. But i also have been seeing quite a bit of a difference already. My face seems to be more even and have more of a glow back (:

I'm afraid i'm speaking too soon and i'm going to have a terrible break out though haha.

Anyways, again, good luck!

So guys, here's my right cheek in a fairly good light. As you can see it has cleared up quite a bit due to accutane, but I don't think it's a very good picture and doesn't show a detailed portrait of my skin. It's going really well to be honest. No breakouts for two weeks and I'm feeling better and better :D In this light, from a meters distance, I'm clear. Sadly, I'm starting to see scars.

Rate my acne guys, and tell me what you think.

Hi Luke!

First of, I'm 16 and a girl and also from Scandinavia (Sverige, ¤r du svensk, dansk eller norsk smile.png?)

I have pretty bad acne, and in all honesty, I don't think that you have it that bad. It doesn't look deep, just as if it's spread (I have it almost all over my face -.-)

But I'm very interested in how Accutane is working for you so I'll keep an eye on this post.

Your acne is not that bad or terrible I've seen worse . It will go away . But good luck with accutane. I decided not to go with it because of the side effects and too much money as well.

Hey :)

I'm actually danish :) Jeg er dansk. So, all in all, I have never seen something as effective as accutane. It's absolutely amazing how much it has improved this past month, and looking back at these pictures I'm having difficulties seeing me with acne this bad! I'm was at 30 mg, but my I went to my derma today and she told me to lower it down to 25/mg since she said it was improving and didnt want my lips to dry more.
