Your body will eventually either push the infection out and the zit'll pop on its own, or your body will attack the infection and eventually kill it off, and the zit will heal up.

Don't pop your pimples. Just don't. I know how hard it is not to, especially when you have a huge pus-filled zit sticking right out on your face, but it's important that you don't. It can cause scarring or at least makeyour skin more susceptible to scarring. Also, popping a pimple can actually spread the bacteria around the area where the pimple is, so you eventually end up getting more pimples (in most cases) appearing in that area. Leaving it will benefit your skin in the long run. It will eventually just disappear, and that's what we all want!

This alone should be enough to convince anyone with pimples to not pop them. Especially when I had cystic acne, not only would I end up with a big sore red spot, but then the bacteria would spread and I'd have more cystic acne around the area, and the infection can often get worse in the initial area. As you also said, picking/squeezing/prodding your acne can lead to scarred tissue as well.

Best bets for everyone in the meanwhile are icing it, using your preferred spot treatment, and a bit of concealer, and not spending time in the mirror looking at it :)

I'm mad at myself I literally just squeezed a pimple before logging on and reading this thread. I know not to pop pimples but this little whitehead right above my right eyebrow was just making me so angry

I do feel like from popping some pimples in the same area over and over again it has caused that area to always form pimples whenever I break out.

I really need to stop popping them gah

Sometimes pimples pop on their own and you just can't stop them from popping.

If you REALLY REALLY must pop a pimple put some honey or aloe on it so It won't become infected again. I use honey when a pimple pops and I apply honey after it and the area where the pimple was becomes a very faint red.

if a pimple is full of pus you might as well gently pop it because it will pop on its own anyways... often at times when you don't want it to pop. Also removing pus will speed up the healing. Now if the pimple is young and you start popping it.. then it will lead to scarring and such. Also when you see blood coming out, dont keep pressing on it!!!

So when they are like squishy and full of pus they have to be popped to go away?

if its a big puss filled zit that you can see it . POP IT ! it will make it heal faster, the redness will go down within a matter of hours and the next day it will be a lot smaller. and all that needs to heal is the little dot scab. what you should not squeeze is the pimples without a head. LEAVE THOSE .

It's ok to pop a pimple that's got a white head.

It's a myth that if you pop a pimple it will spread bacteria. However, popping a pimple can potentially cause physical irritation which could lead to more acne.

So, if you must pop (and believe me, when I used to get big 'ol pustules I had to do it), do it responsibly. Here's a page to lead you in the right direction.
