hey so i think i have some healing pimples.
theres three on my face, and their flat and scabby and red (ones pinK)
should i use it as a spot treatment and for how long? 30 min?
Yes you should apply it on the spot until the it gets dried. 30 min wud be gud. try re wetting it by dabbing a wet finger on the spot to make it stick even if dries after 10-15 min. You will feel little tingling on your skin. that means its working.
gud luck
Hello again!
Good to see this thread is growing!
I applied some zinc to a blemish I stupidly messed with (again) - I'm getting there though!... and I did this a couple of times throughout the day, washing it off every now and then and applying some fresh stuff - so I had it on for pretty much the whole day. Now, this looks rather interesting, lol
There is still a little swelling, but it's better. But the strange thing is, the mark where the skin was broken has turned black (no exaggeration!), and the skin around it seems almost grey and slightly pink around that. Has this happened to any of you? Did I maybe leave it on too long? Oh well we'll see how it looks tomorrow morning... hopefully even better, but I won't be putting on any more zinc on this one.
Interesting post! I've been thinking of making some sort of homemade spot treatment with zinc, but haven't tried it, as wasn't sure if putting 100% zinc on was a good idea (or not?).
Also, I think it's zinc oxide that is used in topicals (I did find a supplier of powdered zinc oxide- not exactly the same compound as in pills - but am in UK), so again wasn't sure if it was only zinc oxide that was suitable and how diluted it should be...does anyone know?
I thought of maybe mixing some Z. Oxide powder into a quantity of aloe vera gel and adding Manuka oil for good measure!
I don't have those supplies at the moment though, apart from aloe vera.

That sounds really weird. When you removed it, did you feel any abrasiveness? It could be that you just scraped off some skin accidentally. I have a spot that was originally a deep blackhead and the skin around there became very dark and red, the blackhead part became more black.
What kind of blemishes have you applied the zinc to, and what mg? I have 25mg tablets, and mostly just small whiteheads/pustules.
Hiya!
I'm pretty sure I didnt scrape off any skin, but anyway, it seems it was just realy dark from the super fast healing, because it formed a scab which came off easily within 2 days, and the skin underneath is just light pink now, hardly visible. So it worked! =D
My tablets are 15mg (zinc gluconate) and the only times I've applied was when I caused a wound where there was originally a blemish (pustule that was onyl just forming, and still under the skin). It speeds up the healing of broken skin really quickly - I've never used to treat actualy just forming blemish before. =)

I think I had a similar experience as you! I had an area of broken skin that seemed to get really dark in the middle (tiny though) and greyish around it from dead skin. It's gone now though
I think zinc bothers actual formed pimples though. I've tried it on actual pimples, and it seems to work a bit, but then bothers my skin. I had a reaction to calamine lotion (zinc based) and to a sunscreen with zinc in it.. so I think my skin dislikes zinc! It bothered me internally, too. But maybe I'll keep it on hand for any areas that break open!
Ah awesome! Did you feel it healed faster than usual with the zinc? Yeah I haven't tried zinc for active blemishes, and since you say your skin doesn't seem to like it using it that way, I'll rather not! =) Seems to be working quite well for broken skin though isnt it! Thanks for your post!

Hiya! Sorry I didn't reply earlier! Didnt see your post there =)
I've never actually used zinc oxide before, so I can't really advise you on that one, but maybe ask someone at a health shop about it? Are you planning to use it to treat active blemishes or to heal broken skin? I use the zinc to heal broken skin whenever I mess up (I have CSP disorder), and it seems to be working well. I hope I wont need to use it ever again soon though, and I think I'm getting there with breaking the habit (YESS! lol) Aloe vera and manuka oil are both excellent for both active pimples and even more so for healing, so I'd say go for it! Could be a nice spot treatment, maybe you could start making some money, as I've never found the perfect spot treatment before =p
I had active acne, but when I started taking zinc, no more acne. I didnt get even a single zit.
I am taking zinc sulfate as no other supplement was available around me. I am clear after 13 years
how many mg do you take a day?
I think you'd better PM this member, seeing that s/he hasn't been online for over 3 months. S/he will be notified if s/he still uses the same email address.
