Yogurt for mild and moderate acne!

If you have mild acne, yogurt helps. I've heard it from an old lady and it's a traditional method of helping acne prone skin. I'd used to use it once a week as a mask several years ago and my face was good for a while. I introduced it to my friends and it worked on them too. for some people it works permanently but for some like me the skin gets used to it and it's not effective after awhile.

 

here's the exact method:

1- mix a tablespoon of plain yogurt with a bit of baking soda. the amount of the baking soda can be determined by this way: it should make the yogurt puff a little but not much. very little puff.

2- apply it to all over your face patiently and let it stay for half and hour or more or less! ( the time can be determined by the way all the yogurt is absorbed on your face and when it's all hard. try to lie all this time and relax)

3- wash it with water.

4- if you have rosewater, apply that to your face afterwards.

 

remember, once a week, not more.

 

I had always mild acne problem but it got wild all of a sudden this summer. I did use benzoyl peroxide for 3 month but I guess it damage my skin more and maybe benzoyl peroxide is responsible for all the red marks. I have never had redmarks on my face after break outs before.

so I'm using that old method again.

 

Thats quite intresting. I will have to give it a try, I've just got a few questions.

 

What exactly is the role of the baking soda?

 

and

 

Is it the baking soda which makes the recommended use once a week? Because I have varying amounts of yogurt on my face 24/7 and it hasn't irritated my skin

Maybe it is the baking soda...I have never used that, ony the honey and I can use it a few several times per week without any issues. Everyone is different though.

I have the baking soda and yogurt mask on right now. It feels more tingly, even slighty stingy than the pure yogurt mask. I will get back with results tomorrow.

I honestly don't know exactly about the role of baking soda and why this mixture should be used just once a week, but my guess is using a treatment very often makes your skin get used to it and the effect would be gone.

 

There's something about yogurt. I myself by experience got to know the less fatty and the more sour the yogurt is, the better result you would see. I make yogurt myself and let it stay for several weeks to get more sour. whenever it was fatty, I felt no freshness.

There's something about yogurt. I myself by experience got to know the less fatty and the more sour the yogurt is, the better result you would see. I make yogurt myself and let it stay for several weeks to get more sour. whenever it was fatty, I felt no freshness.

 

Yeah, that is true. Although I have no experience in making yogurt, and the shops don't really sell yogurts of different sourness.

 

Immediately after the baking soda and yogurt mask, everything seemed much redder and angry. I will get back with more accurate results after a good nights sleep as the redness felt very temporary.

The yogurt with baking soda was not much different from the plain yogurt mask. Although immediately after washing it off my skin seemed irritated and itchy. All the marks and pimples were also much redder. After I had slept everything was back to normal, maybe even slightly redder than before. It could be possible that I added too much baking soda.

 

How much baking soda did you put into how much yogurt?

baking soda made my face more red, irritated and dry. I don't suggest it. It is very alkaline and I have read it messes up your pH. I can try to find articles online.

If it works for you then that's great. I have pretty sensitive skin though.

Any plain yogurt (i.e no falvor/natural) will do the trick. I leave the mask on as long as possible. It will dry and start falling off in small crumbs. You can wash that away with cold water and apply a new mask. Yogurt is good as you can't put too much of it, it definately won't irritate your skin unless of course you are allergic.

 

Not only is the mask good, but every morning I rub very little yogurt on my face and leave it on for the day. It will be absorbed and won't smell nor can it be seen. You start seeing improvements quite fast, although depending on the severity of your acne it can be a long process. Ever since I switched from acne products (cleansers, toners, creams and whatnot) to milder natural products I have seen a major improvement in my overall skin health. The products destroy the skins natural defence mechanism and next thing you know you are in a vicious cycle. I use olive oil, tea tree oil, yogurt, acv, honey, lemon juice, and baking soda as a scrub. The nearest I get to chemicals is crushed ibuprofen and crushed aspirin. I definately do not regret making this switch, it is much cheaper, more convenient, and most of all the results are sustainable. Soon I will be able to be completely product free.

Nah, I agree, the baking soda didn't work very well. It is very good as a scrub but does destroy the skins pH mantle, and hence the skin will be more acne prone. Mixing it with the yogurt neutralizes the yogurt and so becomes sort of pointless.

 

Since it was suggested I felt compelled to give it a shot.

Sorry guys but something makes me a little upset and that's the general impatience in any kind of treatment. In my opinion anything that shows drastic changes just in one session has something wrong in it, because as you might think that the breakouts just happens suddenly, it isn't so and much worse, the effect of those on skin stays much more longer and as a rule in most of things in this world the building takes much more time than destruction. So don't judge after just one day. but if it irritates your skin and you feel it's hurting it, absolutely do not use it.

 

About the amount of the baking soda. As I said, just a little bit. with the very smallest amount that makes the yogurt puff very very little.

 

I think the reason it makes the red marks more red for the couple of first times could be this: it refreshes the whole skin, of course the skin that is clear too, and as you know with time the red marks would be less red and more brown, so maybe it's just getting into the red marks as well as the other areas and as the result, those clean areas makes your red remarks much more apparent. maybe with time all your skin go more fresh altogether.

 

I never encountered the redness of entire face though. maybe you should not continue using it.

 

About the amount of the time you should put as a mask, it depends on your skin but it should be absorbed wholly. for me it's about 50 minutes.

 

About the time that you should be patient with, for the results, it depend on your skin again. but I guess if you are in your teens and your face is fresh and not used to different kind of treatments, maybe you could use it twice a week and after 2 weeks you see the results, but as I said before it wouldn't be drastic results but you would see the difference (it is more successful as the eliminator of acne than red mark). I remember when I was in my teens I could use it twice a week but after some years, it was not good using that often and my skin got used to it. I had mild acne and no red marks back then.

 

About the brand, as I said again I make it myself and let it stay for some weeks till it gets sour, but I've used Russian yogurt and plain yogurt with the least amount of fat and they were good.

 

I don't think it's a good idea using the mask multiple times a day at all.

 

DNG, I don't know what you're talking about... about leaving it stay for the whole day! it does smell and it can definitely be seen, even after complete absorption you could see the dried yogurt and you cannot move your face easily! it's a mask for god's sake. but I do completely agree with you when you say MOST of the acne product out there do more harms for the skin than benefit.

 

Anyway, it was good for me and I thought maybe anyone with patience and interest in natural things might like it.

When I put it on for the day, I only use about 2 peas worth of yogurt for the entire face. And I gently massage it in for about 2-3 minutes and then it is absorbed, like a moisturizer. There is no residue on the skin and no smell.

Yeah it would definately work on your back, if it works on your face.

 

About you scalp.... ummm i really don't know, haha. Shave your head?

Neat, hehe. What movie was it? It is definately worth giving a try, this it by far the best thing I have tried.

I forgot something. when you apply yogurt to your face be generous. put as much of yogurt as it can stick to your face without shedding. you should be like a ghost when you're finished applying! and you would see that in some parts it would be absorbed more quickly.

it makes total sense to me that yogurt would work. i've actually been thinking about trying it for awhile now. i don't think its the lactic acid in it at all though. i think its the beneficial bacteria. yogurt is a probiotic, full of live cultures of good bacteria like acidophilus and bifidus. us acne sufferers destroy all the bacteria on our skin, good and bad, with all the soaps and treatments that we use. then fungi and bad bacteria become resistant to the treatments and can take over without any competition from the good bacteria. so basically the yogurt restores your skin's natural flora. i'm definitely gonna try it now that i hear its working for someone else!

I know this thread is really old but I just thought maybe it should be bumped up because I think yogurt works really great as a cleanser.

That night, I was actually trying to have yogurt as a face mask. I already had some on my palm ready to smear on my face.

When suddenly my dad got back home early and I didn't want him to see my face as white as a ghost so I quickly rubbed all of the yogurt that was on my palm into my face pretending it was a cleanser.

So yeah, I rubbed it all in til my dad went into his room and I thought I was a fool for doing that rolleyes.gif

Then I washed my face and well....my face looked great. Much brighter than before and just really great to touch.

The next day, some of my scabby scars were peeling off on their own and I kept doing this til today and it's been awesome :)

But then I kinda ran out of yogurt so I didn't wash my face with anything but water for 2 days and I could feel like a new pimple was forming on my forehead and my nose. So I went to buy yogurt again and use it as a cleanser and the next day, they were gone. Yay!

I think I'm going to keep using this until....something bad happens.. Haha~

To those who want to try, I advice you do a patch test first rather than smearing it all over your face.

Oh and use plain yogurt :)

On a side note, I'm thinking of trying ACV as a toner eusa_think.gif
