Hi everybody,

I'm new to this forum and deperately looking for advice from someone that's been in my position. :(

I have a huge atrophic scar on my glabella (right between the eyes), from a contaminated bug bite I got in 2020. It's located next to another icepick scar I got as a child from Chickenpox.

I attached a photo.

This makes me exremely self concious, so for the last couple of years,  I've been covering my scar with a semi transparent tape whenever I leave my house.

2 months ago I was treated with subcision, Radiesse injection and CO2 laser, to increase collagen generation.

Unfortunately I now have hard lumps around the injected site, and my scar actually seems worse than it was prior to the filler injection.

I found this incredible website while looking into the possibility of getting the scar excised surgically, in order to replace the deep dent with a finer line.

Did any of you guys go under a successful scar excision surgery in the glabellar area?

I'm desperate to find a certified and experienced plastic surgeon or dermatology expert to fix this already.

Any doctor recommendations from personal experience would be highly appreciated.

Thank you so much!
Anna.

Too deep for laser imo. The subcision in very thin areas is riskier presumably but it is one of the theoretical treatments that you might want to pursue with a better doctor. I'm not sure about radiesse filler personally.

If you get excision it's just going to leave a different shape/angle (linear) and it might look better you'd have to talk to a better surgeon, but it's a super thin area so I don't know the risks of cutting the dermis etc.

Sorry you have to deal with this especially just recently. It sucks so let me throw you a virtual hug. The depth of it worries me when it comes to thin areas and subcision or excision.

I wonder if anyone thinks a fat transfer would help personally, with or without future subcision? Either way I'm going to be honest I think the only theoretical treatments are subcision/filler, excision (if it's do-able) or some other atrophic treatments like fat transfer.

The Radiesse injection and the CO2 laser were a good start to build up collagen, you will need it if you want to have good results with the excision,
You have to look for a reconstructive surgeon who has a lot of experience in the field Ask him for photos of scars he has treated that are similar to yours,

According to Longaker and his Stanford colleague Geoffrey Gurtner, scars are formed by the stress of healing a wound.
"Human skin is exposed to continuous environmental stresses and must continually remodel and grow to remain viable, which creates a high level of stress on the skin."

We do not yet have the correct dose to inject verteporfin into a human wound. But if we have Botox to remove tension in the sutures and let it heal calmly Once the excision and suturing is done, ask your surgeon to put botox around the wound.
This will guarantee your success. Good luck

I have this exact same kind of scar in the exact same place - no luck yet with treatments. Also did CO2 and filler - didn't really help. And plastic surgeons said there's not much they can do. Going to see another one next month Curious if anything's improved for you!

Hi Anna,

I just found your picture by accident online. I registered an account to share my 2 cents and my support to you.

I have a burn scar from 6 yr old with a similar size but different shape at exact same location. After healing many years, scar is barely visible, no skin discoloration. Indentation only exactly just like your condition.

It has been a huge issue for my self-confidence as you might experienced. Trying to hide it with hair or clothings.

Once I was financially independent, I tried to have scar revision to fix it. I have consulted with many top comstic plastic surgeons(many in beverly hills). Some of them suggested filler with subcision, and some(who have a heart) suggested me not to perform a incision removal at this location which I later know why.

The problem is the tension. At this specific location, skin and muscles are constantly under movements. Even closing opening eyes will cause stress. Other exmaples to name a few like frowning unconsciously, movements during your sleep, or even laughter will cause stress to the healing scar. Pretty much any facial expression will move muscles affecting this area. Most surgeons wont allow stitches to stay more than 2 weeks(or it will grow stitch marks), but 2 weeks are definitely not enough to fully heal. Once stitches are removed, the area will start to expand. I believe your current scar was the same case.

I made a mistake to do an incision removal at this spot (replace with a fine line as you desired). First surgery was not optimal, then second attemp with botox to relax the muscle was also a failure. Each time leaves a bigger or uglier scar which is even more visible.

So in conslusion, I would not suggest you to do an incision scar removal at this location, at least for now. I would not attemp any more surgery til I see the before and after photo that it is successful.

Since it has been 2 years, I am not sure if you will ever check back here. I just want to point out that, your scar might not be as obvious as you might thought. After failed scar revision which made it more visible, then it was discovered by friends and families. They said that they were not aware of it before. I guess for us who have similar issue, just be confident and be yourself while keep looking for new techlogies if you think you still need it after a few years.

Best Wishes.
