@shei514While anyone is free to offer comments. This is an outdated and archaic treatment(dermabrasion - sanding the skin basically with a diamond fraised tip) few Derms do this anymore. The downtime is months, the possible damage can be terrible(side effects).

Why do you need this... You have Rullan do a a deep peel or a have a local Dr to do a fully ablative laser resurfacing deep peel for your texture. But it's not time yet for that, end of treatment. You need much more subcision and tca cross first. This is a marathon not a race. Texture is always treated last.

Ah, dermabrasion yes thats very outdated. I had a doctor offer that to me once and have heard bad things about it.

Thats horrible. Its scary how so many dermatologists know so little about scar revision and lead people astray.

There is risk with all procedures. For instance, when we do something surgical they are more than something like a lower level laser procedure and especially a manual procedure. It all depends on how you heal. There are amazing results from dermabrasion, it's a lot of art in the era of laser(lots of bad laser Dr's now who can get side effects as well). My advice - research research research - Know how you heal and the results you require. Do you have 3 months od downtime for something like dermabrasion, but heal well, and nothing else works, might be worth the risk or gamble then right. The field evolves and sometimes some Dr's stay with older methods. The ones who have done the best dermabrasion are plastic surgeons. but I have to wonder why if they could do a deep peel or resurfacing, perhaps they like the tactile feel with their hands and surgery. Your surgeon is also very important, maybe he is the best in the world at this procedure. Ask for b&a and any complications. If you're prone to acne, sensitivity, and poor healing - NO!

I see nothing wrong with this in the right patient, but I don't want everyone going out there expecting this to fix everything.

This is very popular in Eastern Europe. Just like fat grafting is still popular and cheap in some parts of Europe. Search on Acne, there are good cases and terrible cases from the past.

In third world countries, there is no one regulating them using electrical tools from the hardware store to do this on patients.

If they do dermabrasion I would only treat the worst scars and the borders of the scars. Too much skin"sanded" and guess what, it does not grow back.

- Knowledge is power.

Hey everyone - Im looking for some information on Chinese Cupping and specifically the benefits it provides after subcision. I have done a few searches but havent found anything super helpful yet. If anyone has any info on what it is, when to do it in the context of subcision that would be super helpful

thanks!

@shei514Hi there, it's in the FAQ, pinned to the main scar treatments sub, under subcision. You do it daily for a month post subcision, several times a day(if you can). You vary the pressure so you get some suction - yet don't over bruise. Chinese Cupping has been around for centuries and the idea was developed for acne scars to provide a way for the skin to not re-tether. Amazon carries many brands from bee sting kits to Chinese cupping sets, ... make sure the cups will be small enough to fit your scars(not to large).

Yeah dermabrasion is unpredictable. I had one to a small area with one dermatologistand the result was really good. Then I got a bit greedy and decided to do another one with a plastic surgeon, thinking well he's a PS so he must be even more skilled at it. Boy was I wrong. The second dermabrasion really messed up my left cheek and left it bright RED for over a year and a half before I got fed up and did Vbeams. Those helped the redness tremendously, but I can still make out the difference in treated vs untreated skin.

Now that I'm 3 years out from the second disastrous dermabrasion, I have healed but there is still some texture issues.

I wrote this in @f93d thread, but I'll say it again. You have to know when to stop while you're ahead, or risk really messing things up.

You mean after TCA?

Probably a couple of weeks or more. I am very pale and my redness is almost always apparent so its always there to some extent. After any procedure, it can take weeks or even months for my skin to calm down depending on the nature of the procedure.

Update: getting more filler soon and had subcision done recently on my left cheek. Trying out Chinese cupping too.

Honestly have been treated over 3 years at this point its hard to keep track but I have a general idea

2016 - NZ based. Fraxel laser treatments

2017 - 2018:erbium laser resurfacing fully ablative x2. No great results from being treated in NZ, NZ docs reluctant to do manual stuff or dont know about it so I went to dr Lim in August 2017. First he did subcision, then from August 2017 to November 2018 I saw him as often as I could probably every 3-5 months. He dida lot of laser resurfacing and subcision on me including ultrapulse and CO2 core laser treatments and he would use subcision on my scars immediately prior to treating me with laser. Ive had filler done once by him and probably 4-6+ subcisons in total.

2019 - in America now and was treated by dr rullan he did aggressive subcision, fractionated erbium, and Phenol cross. Now Im back in LA Ive been treated by dr Ben beham. He has done TCA on me about 3 times now, used subcision on me and some filler for my cheeks. Probably will go back to dr rullan, just need to get out of work.

Nah Im not in the USA for just treatments, I work here but I like to be treated every three months and going to AUS is not feasible from here. I plan to see dr Lim next year for sure.

It is exhausting! More exhausting for my bank account honestly lol

i honestly dont know about the east coast

This is SEVERE scars, not some minor scar issue. Ongoing care is a must. The good thing is we see improvement, from the beginning.

Bad subcision is as good as not having subcision at all. IF your read above this was done by some not so good Dr's to begin with. When treated with laser, patients often don't understand you may need manual treatments as well afterwards. It depends how you heal, some do not heal well and laser is not the best choice.

Hence it's counter productive to the end goal, but Dr's love to do this, quicker treatment $$$$$. In a ideal world we would do manual treatments first and you would see a Dr 6-8 times spaced far apart. This is why it's not healthy to compare cases or types of scars. From what I gather above and with all respect to Shei ... she is a poor healer, who had some bad treatments, and had limited time with one Dr. When I say 3 years of treatments I mean it unless your exceptionally lucky. You DO NOT need to fly to Lim to have subcision, in fact I feel that is counter productive. Treat locally to yourself. What is he supposed to do when you have a day or 3 days, ... he will over treat as you want as much as possible done. This is not productive to healing. Do a final laser treatment with him when your ready, not the beginning unless you live locally and can treat ongoing.

This isn't something you can pop in for a Starbucks and it's the same in one country as another. Comparing completely different approaches and outcomes, ... the goal is improvement.

To bring the point home, treat locally, if you can ... do a final deep resurfacing procedure with a skilled Dr.

Your not like anyone else on these forums. I cannot over-analyze every choice, health concern, and action done in your life. It all depends on how you heal. I Get your frustration.

No scar case is the same, we are not clones, one person could do a million procedures and not be you, your all different ages, ethnic backgrounds, healing capabilities, plans for treatment, outcomes, different surgeons (they treat differently as well), etc, we could go on and on. The point being is never compare yourself to someone else. Sure you can learn from their experience but do we really know every single detail about what was done and why - no. If someone heals poorly or had a poor Dr they typically hang around here.

It can help a lot if you see a therapist because scars are not only external they also effect us internally. Talkspace offers a app for your smartphone to get unlimited therapy or you can see someone locally. Therapy is half of the battle that many struggle with.

Goto a board certified Dr for help, ... if you want get 3 opinions and choose the one you like best. Your cases have nothing to do with each other or anyone else here, everyone is a individual with a different story.

It takes time and heal (this is a marathon and not a race, many do treatments every 3 months over 3 years time),... it's slow with lots of treatments.

BA i understand every thing u said we're all different or had some bad experience or poor healers or whatever etc... What i'm trying to know what is her perspective on this matter? Since she's been treating with one of the best dr's in the world how much improvement did she got? It's just feels like so exhausting and frustrating going through all these treatments and still not get the results that she wants there is an improvement that's the good thing but what is ur overall opinion on treating with davin and rullan and how much improvement did she got from them?
