no, i strongly agree with you. i find men/women with scarring absolutely beautiful and resilient. my SO has acne scarring and he is the most beautiful man I have ever seen. I tell him all the time that his scarring is attractive to me, not only because I have it, but because I find him more human and less superficial than everyone else. I want real people with real skin who arent afraid to be themselves and see the rest of the world as viewing our current beauty standards as wrong (i.e. filters, excessive reliance on plastic surgery to fix flaws). I say all this because I struggle to see the light many times. I struggle to see the actual beauty behind myself because I hyperfocus on how others MAY perceive my scarring. Its true that scarring becomes invisible after youre close with someone. I dont notice my SOs scars at alllllll and if I do, I smile and tell him hes beautiful because he is! Also, his grace in accepting himself and thus me, makes me appreciate and value his perception of the world and myself. It has improved the perception of myself. Im not as accepting as he is yet about myself but we are completely open about how the scarring makes me insecure and its brought us so close, closer than I would with most people who has smooth skin. Also, everyone has their one major insecurity. Mine is my scarring. For others, it might be their weight. or size. or hair. or disability. And I never notice or care when I see that in others, and others definitely dont care to see that in us. Im just adding an insight. I am the worst on myself, still. So please dont take this as Ive reached a complete acceptance, I havent. But Ive reached a comfort and closeness with the flaws of others that makes me more connected with others by looking past their surface, or seeing their imperfections as beauty. And it is! Many may not see it my way, but if they dont, they shouldnt be in your life anyways. Its hard when some of these people are your family, you cant escape that, but for the most part, great people who love you will never see your flaws for long.

If you want my honest opinion I think not having it just makes it easier within society, by leaps and bounds. But as you, I prefer a girl with flaws. Yes I won't deny that (and I did date 10 years ago really attractive girls) I'm attracted to good looking girls but not in the same way. It gets old and boring fast. You start to see the flaws inside some of these so-called attractive people, and their inside scars are wider than any I've seen on this forum. Problem really is society but it is what it is, I get it. It's been that way forever. 100 years ago looks were in movies and so on.

But as for me I'm with you. Having flaws is attractive and almost normalizing. I ask myself is it because of my (old) age, my own scars (much deeper years ago which I went through) or is it just my personal tastes, or maybe all 3. Idk. But to me flaws are physically attractive and I sort of like cheering people up who are down so that's fun too. If someone's life is less happy because of flaws it would be fun to cheer it up some I guess. I like looking at the hot blonde girl for like a week or two I guess, but I like being with AND looking at the nerdy flawed girl so long as the have a nice personality then I'm totally sold. I really don't care if you look like an ogre if you're personality is awesome that's all that matters like 80/90%. It's a bit hard to find that personality though.

But society is FAR from that. They hire, worship, normalize only people who are not different. Even disabled people like in wheel chairs or anything could be looked down upon let's be honest. oh well. Still gotta middle finger society and move forward right.

It's really weird but I find it so easy to ignore girls with scars. My only real problem is with any gender it's hard to look at them and try to figure out if I stare will it upset them or make it more awkward. I saw two people in the last few years with some and one I felt like I might have upset by just looking and another girl ran past me so fast but I found her lovely even with it so I don't know. Personally I don't know if it's because of my personal experiences with it or just my maturity at my age/tastes. I almost find it like evidence that your strong and hardened by life which is attractive.

I could just be mentally screwed up too at this point lol. I don't find it unattractive, flaws of any sort make people more attractive past the superficial "oh he/she is hot" it gets boring real, real fast.

I wish I could see acne scarring from your point of view but I think I have a long way to go before I get there. I suffer from BDD as well. Acne scarring represents everything I hate about myself and I think about how much it has stolen from me and it just makes me incredibly sad. 100% would be a completely different person if I never had to suffer through this condition. And unfortunately our society is weak people flip out if they have a break out or two lol but I have to suffer through this and put myself in debt to make my face socially acceptable.

Whether my scars are minor, moderate, severe, depending on the light, I can barely tell anymore. I find them severe, other days minor, others moderate. I just know they are much less severe than 15 years ago in my mind and because I had a standard of reference back then (depth and social stuff). In that scope, I probably have something similar to BDD but who knows maybe it's just anxiety in general.

The way I look at things comes with age and it might also come with seeing "both sides" basically severe and then less severe in my life. It also comes with a lot of empathy, reading, some anime themes like angel beats, watamote (main character's mental issues were absolutely hilarious but remind me of myself early on in a big way) or others that kind of helped me when I was younger relate or explore to certain things I guess when it was harder.

Going beyond that you are pretty much 100% correct about society. I'm not going to sugar coat it but we are a perception based society globally, not just the US and not just where you live. I understand it and I understand why. I also am really cynical and I think a lot of our populace consists of some of the dumbest or immoral people alive, so there's that, they don't "get it" and resent anything even remotely different. But it's not all bad. Some really nice people out there too, it's just not as common as the not as nice. Being judged or recognized for things outside our control isn't fun, and acne scarring isn't as acceptable as other things society deems more acceptable. That's the societal aspect and maybe I'm being too harsh but that's how I've observed in some settings.

It's not all bad, but I guess I do like seeing ugly as attractive but honestly I think age has a lot to do with that too. In my mid 20s I was kind of fixated on the superficial and got that out of my system but to be fair, I had almost none of that growing up so I was like party time for a little while.

I just have to make a wire payment to secure my appointment with Dr Rullan but he recommends filler, subcision and punch excision for the stubborn boxcar scars. I'm really excited tbh but unfortunately Dr Rullan is all booked for June so my appointment won't be until July. I asked to be on the waiting list because I'm super eager lol.

So Rullan is doing punch excision on you?? I havent heard of him doing punch excision before, thats exciting

Yep I'm very excited lol I mentioned these scars are stubborn and I think he probably knows that since the peel didn't really "touch" them or improve them that much punch excision is probably the next logical step. I hope I can get some improvement even a little. How much did punch excision help your scarring overall? You must be over the moon to start your journey with the phenol peel this year.

I know dr rullan does Mohs surgery as well. I hope he uses tension lines to correctly chose the closure angle. Just mention that you want the excision to blend in the face. If things go as planned then you will be left with a linear scar. Maybe a horizontal closure would be best on your scar location.

The whole concept of punch excision is very satisfying in that the stubborn scar is being literally cut out. It bothers me that more practitioners dont offer punch excision and are so against about offering it.
nonetheless,Im excited for you and to hear about your results with the excision. I hope it all goes well. Would be nice if there was an excision specialist around.. Im sure there must be

With my punch excision, I think it helped about 30-40%. Deeper scars were replaced for smaller scars. My boxcar on my left cheek healed very nicely. Other scars, didnt heal as well as Id like. But Im also not sure how much the later 90% TCA cross I did affected the excised scars for me. Sometimes I wonder how my results would have been different if I had decided to not opt for the 90% TCA cross post-punch excision.. But I also definitely can say now, the practitioners experience with performing punch excision procedures should definitely be considered. I think it can make the difference in the final result. Im feeling a bit apprehensive about my phenol so far lol. I paid the down deposit very eagerly last Thursday, 15-20 minutes into the consult, but Mary / the staff at rullans clinic have yet to send me any documentation, pre assessment information, etc and it has me weary. To be fair I havent given them a call yet to bug them about it, but I have sent a few emails. Think Ill give a call on Friday If I dont hear back by then. Im also cautious of setting my expectations too high with the phenol but also kind of at a place where Im ready to take more of a gamble. Think its time.

are you thinking of doing a regional phenol post excision down the road?

So just out of Dr Rullans office today. No punch excision for the boxcars Rullan said he prefers this for deep ice pick scars and not boxcar scars. Instead I did erbium, subcision, filler and carbolic cross. Dr Rullan said for the quatro he prefers this method now and one session alone can provide powerful results. He is seeing a lot of improvement in his patients using this method. Cost $2300 USD and some change.

As always, wish you the best of luck/progress.

How do you feel about Rullan may I ask? I'm looking for an expert who's basically just seen it all, complex or simple, and it's a long flight for me. I have superficial but complicated scars after dermabrasion. Mostly the texture is what's complicated more than the actual scarring which is noticeable but superficial. I don't really think doctors around here have any clue to be honest, after all their idea of dermabrasion is a light sanding versus what I had and have no clue how to improve upon that (if possible).

Just wondering if you think Rullan (having met him) is very experienced in general and honest with people. That's my main question. Meaning do you go to him thinking he'll do the best job he can, not upsell, just be efficient and experienced.

The theory of his new procedure is to specifically target the edge of the scar with liquid and then burn it with erbium. This way you reach fastest to rolling appearance for boxcars. Hence making it look smoother at one month mark. I have done it. I do see a very good improvement. I think if you already had a full field Subcision. No need to repeat it again just do cross and erbium abrasion.

I never had subcision btw. I had a poor excision or revision together in that one spot which made it worse. My leftover scars are more textural at this point but the problem is they are very textural as a byproduct of such good depth and healing from super aggressive dermabrasion. Problem is the texture is unpredictable day to day the pores can dilate or turn red.

I need a subcision on my cheek scar but the pore scars I was considering maybe careful erbium.

At my age I just want the best whether it's Lim or Rullan or someone else.

Yeah I think Dr Rullan is very open and honest he talks a lot about his methods and what he thinks works the best. For him that™s the quatro and the phenol peel. He is also open to patient input and very forthcoming. I™ve had so much improvement since seeing him that™s why I keep going back. It™s a shame his office is terrible at responding.

Has anyone seen Dr Mark Taylor in Utah? I was watching a few of his videos on YT and he seems to favour aggressive methods sometimes combining five or more treatment options in one session..

Thanks I'd like to see him since he's the only "expert" that isn't international. I live east coast so it's still easy to travel to CA but would be difficult to see Lim in Australia probably and who knows.

I'm going to get getsmart's opinion on some angle shots/pics and ask if he thinks Rullan might have some ideas to improve first. Then in the next few months try to reach out when I'm less busy with work.

I'm glad you got progress I can't tell with the redness (sort of like when I can't see my scars in certain light etc) but I hope you get continued progress. Earlier pics you definitely got good progress imo. Thanks for the info on Rullan.

The problem with excision is highly localized so no one can tell the difference except us. Since we zoom in but most people want to see scars as overall.

Tbh I can see my boxcars coming through already, they will never close up. Perhaps the damage is too deep, that's why I wanted punch excision the same old methods aren't going to work. I'm done doing subcision and cross for the 10th+ time it's clear it won't work on deep and old acne scars... but perhaps I have to accept that deep and old acne scars will not go anywhere until the technology improves someday. I think it's the law of diminishing returns for me coming into play with my acne scars.

Just want to say I think I have seen some good improvement with the quatro for my boxcars. They appear a lot less softer and intense. Maybe punch excision is not needed.
