Haha.
I have to ring Salford today to see why my appointment hasn't come through. I was given a number Friday as the appointment centre didn't have a record of it. I'm dreading getting a different derm (which I will as the last one was a locum) and being told they won't do laser!
I think they will give you Roaccutane. Most places I've been offer it without a seconds thought! Hope you get it
I spoke to Dr. Fitzgeralds secretary today and I am on the waiting list. It's a bit of a pain but the good news is I will be seeing the derm that originally saw me
Let me know how you get on Sunny D
Hi determinedtowin well looks like I shall be going on Roaccutane after I get my bloods done hopefully all shall be well. I had Dr Pillay? Can't remember his name :/ Apparently, he was a locum but I did ask him if he will be my derm from this appointment forward and he said yes. So, lets hope that is the case. If, not then I won't be very happy. Rather have one derm throughout the course. Only makes sense!
That is brilliant news - happy for you! Hope you get the scar treatment! Plus, I think you will get it done on the NHS I asked this derm and he said we can definitely do something about scarring (obvs in my case after RoAccutane course is done). Keep us all updated - best wishes and good luck! 🙂
That is who I saw! How did you find him? I personally thought he was brilliant and one of the best ones (if not the best) I've seen!! I have been told he will be my derm full time now so he is obviously there for the long haul. The main thing for me is that he is the only one who has admitted that the NHS can offer scar treatment.
I don't know if you noticed but he has some scarring himself so he probably knows how it feels!
He also offers Roaccutane easily so presumed you'd get offered it!!

Hi determinedtowin I thought he was good but then again he is the only derm I've ever experienced so can't compare him to anyone else :/ lol but no he did seem very thorough and the was definitely understanding. And, yes! He has some acne scarring too! First thing I noticed. Gosh, nothing gets past us lot does it?! Bdw, is Dr Fitzgerald a consultant derm by any chance? And, is his secretary called Claire? Also, did you know Salford have a specialist acne unit? I was surprised!
No I didn't know they had a acne department... did he explain what they do different to the dermatology department?
I think it's Dr. Fitzgerald's department because when I was wondering where my appointment was, I got put through to his secretary but don't know her name! She seemed sound though
I'm just very thankful I'll get to see that derm again because trust me, there's some horrific ones. Never ever let them give you an appointment at Ashton hospital put it that way, he was a joke. I am a a pretty happy go lucky person and never complain but as you probably saw I put a massive complaint in about this hospital which is probably why I got an appointment so quickly the first time!
Apparently my next appointment should come through soon. Did they give you another appointment there and then?

Nope, he didn't say much. Although, I didn't really interrogate him about it - all he said was if I am unavailable then we are likely to send you to the specialist acne department. Had a terrible time at Salford yesterday! Went to get my bloods done and I was just waiting around for the nurses as they were having their lunch even though on the blood room door they had a sign saying they'd be back by 1.30 but by 1.40 no one was coming. Totally lost my patience and complained till someone listened. Was an absolute JOKE seeing as its a 5 min job! I was disappointed and so was some other girl as she said she waited around 1 hour and 10 minutes at her first appointment and then 2 hours and 20 minutes at her current one. She was pretty fuming 🙁 Salford reeealllly need to fix up!
Anyway, my next appoint is 17th Feb. Reckon they will discuss results of my bloods and hopefully stick me on Accutane. Thank God. Well, that's what I am hoping! And, some woman named Claire Hunter rang me to make the appointment and I can't re-schedule as that is the ONLY available time unless I wait till March. (Pretty inconvenient) Plus, waiting till March is defo not feasible. Have you received a letter or a phone call yet?

Sorry, just seen this, heavy weekend haha
I must have got lucky with my appointment as they saw me half an hour early which was great as it was a 6pm appointment and I live across the other side of Manchester and it took me about 20 mins to find my way out of the hospital haha
I rang up and presume I spoke to Claire and she said it would be the next few days she schedules some appointments. I think she'll rush mine through now as she read the notes back to me about how it should have been early Jan
I have had Dermabrasion,Laser (C02 carbon diocide),Derma fillers,Insision scars,Needling Subcision etc,all done on the NHS.
I have just had laser treatment refused back in december but i will fight to get it done again.
Why should we suffer with this awful disease called acne when through no fault of ours it is down to a chemical call dioxin which this Gouvernment allowed companies to use. They then tell us we cannot have treatment done on the NHS.They steel all our money through expenses then pay it back and nothing more is head of it,hypocrites.
I have also take the drug Roaccutane (no warnings of the packaging when i to this drug) which as f****d my life up.It as got to where i don't go out much now and as made me suicidal every day of my life.It as also made me an aggressive person, getting in trouble with the police all the time.
I will fight all the way to have treatment done on the NHS to help improve the scars.I will even take court action if i have to.
Zavvi,i have never paid for any treatment that i have had done to improve the acne scarring, the NHS as paid for it all.
Read this and make up your own mind to why you ppl cannot have treatment done on the NHS.
Read about the chemical that was used by the USA army in the Vietnam War called agent Orange, also the first known skin disease it caused.Read the link below and decide for yourself what is the cause of acne,Dr's will tell you different.

Spoke to Claire and my appointment is for March 3rd! Fingers crossed for some progree
Have your scars improved, Sam?
Zavvi, I have been told by every single derm that the NHS don't do it but then this guy said straight away, yeah we do it! I couldn't believe my luck
Hey! Ahh happy for you! I also asked Dr. Pilay about scar treatments and asked why they're not available on NHS? He told me they ARE available especially for post acne treatments but NHS need to apply for funding & that is where you need to talk to your GP about it and I think they refer you to the derm. At least NHS help is available just a matter of fighting to get it.
Also, day 2 of Roaccutane. Happy days. Hopefully, the bane of my life will be over with. Hallelujah!

Good luck with it. Keep us update when you can 🙂
Just got back from my appointment. The good news is I have a referral to the laser clinic!
I had some bloods done as I keep flushing and they were supposed to be sent to my derm but the thick nurse has lost them so I need to chase them! She even rang up and asked where they were to be sent when I was getting them done!
Hopefully the referral doesn't take too long!!

hey dude what type of laser are you getting this done at and is it a private clinic your getting this done
I'm not sure yet as I have to speak to them about that and I'm not even sure where it will be until the appointment comes through
What is weird about the said doctor is I had 2 tiny spots when I went in and he asked me if I wanted a small course of Roaccutane to clear anything up!!!
Hey! Wow that's brilliant news! My acne has gone soooooo much better since December thank God! Will be on month 4 whenever they decide to book me in. Salford have been SO annoying with appointments .. i have been chasing them up for 3 months. Will definitely be complaining to PALS
Also, Dr.Pillay describes me as "pleasant" as well! He is a good doctor!
Good luck

I think we have been lucky getting him! I'm glad you're acne has got better
I waited for this appointment for quite a while but that is because they're only there 2 days a week!
Fingers crossed I can get something done. I'm quite lucky that time off work isn't a problem.
Do you have any scarring or can you not tell yet? x
Good news, again!
I went for an appointment with the laser clinic at Salford Royal yesterday. The guy was great and took time to explain my options.
He said that he is happy to do a test patch but did say that he wasn't sure if it would help massively as he said my scars were 'mild'. He didn't for one minute try and put me off the treatment he just explained that there are risks involved which I obviously already knew. I'm going to go ahead with the test patch and see what happens
I asked him about derma roller and he said it is good but obviously not available on the NHS

I have a test patch booked for 2nd if September. I'm 50/50 if to go ahead a get this advice and some of the stuff I've read especially as I've been on Roaccutane in the past. In fact I'm really nervous about it!
Hey!! Hope you are well! Sorry for the incredibly late reply - I totally forgot! :/ Eeek. Haha .. anyway just wondering how you are getting on? Can't believe they made you wait two months for your test patch .. seriously hate Salford Royal .
And, yes I have some scarring. Dr Pillay said we can do something about it when I am finished with Roaccutane. Currently on month 5 got another month or 2. Fingers crossed all goes well!
Good luck!
