I started dermarolling my face in february this year once every 4-8 weeks using a 1.5mm dermaroller. I Couldn't find a doctor to get it professionally done in my country so I decided to do it myself. Until the 5th session I saw no problems but after the 6th one those bulging veins appeared on my temples and the areas above them on my forehead. I searched the web but the only cases I found were from people who work out a lot like athletes, bodybuilders and even some famous muscular people like Madonna and Angelina Jolie. I walk 2-3 hours a day everyday so exercise may have contributed to the problem, but I'm sure the main cause for these bulging veins is the dermaroller. I started dermarolling mildly but as I saw no problems I increased the aggressiveness (pressure and number of passes) after each treatment and, in the 6th session in August I was really aggressive (I spent 2 hours rolling my face and there was a lot of bleeding).
I would like to know if anybody had similar problems. I also advise people to be cautious because this treatment is not as safe as many people say.
Is dermaroller worthwhile? I think it is because for the first time in my life I have no doubt my scars look better after a treatment. On cold windy days I'd say the improvement is around 5% and on hot days the improvement I see is around 30%. I have already had CO2 laser, TCA Cross, subcision and even a fractional laser session and saw minimal or no results, so dermaroller seems to be a good option. I recommend to use a 0.5mm dermaroller on the forehead and temples where the skin has less fat underneath (instead of the 1.5mm roller I used). It may reduce risks. If possible, I think dermastamp or single needles for individual scars are safer, although I haven't tried them.
I have moderate rolling and small ice pick scars all over my face, besides the textural mess left by the laser, so dermaroller seemed to be the better option for me, but from now on I will have to change my approach, needling just the worst scars on my forehead and temples using the dermastamp and single needles to try to avoid further bulging veins consequences. On the rest of my face (except near my eyes, of course, and nose) I will continue to dermaroll, but not as aggressively as I used to do.
