Hi Cherry, thanks for sharing your experience. smile.png

Based on your recent photos, your acne is just minor, i think accutance will definately solve your problem very quickly. rolleyes.gif

Hope to hear your accutance experience in soonest.

Hi Theng,

I am going to try to create a thread based on my Accutane experiences as soon as possible. I am really liking (many of) the results so far. wink.png

sculptra will stimulate new collagen, once collagen volume increased our skin will become firm. i have had it done in July'13 to treat "malar groove" on my cheek bone, it works very well on me. but it only last for 24-36mths, effect is not immediately it takes 3-6mths for best result, the result may vary from person to person. Must get a dr who experienced in sculptra, or else the effect will be limited. rolleyes.gif

Do you have pics of the sculptra results, Theng?

erbium has a huge downtime - it was a massive shock for me to wake up in hospital and look in the mirror. I knew it would be bad as obviously i did my research but I looked a lot worse than any pics I had seen. i did initially take a pic but couldn't keep it as I was scared anyone would see it.

I'm not kidding, it looked like i had been in a car crash. Erbium can cause scarring but my surgeon was adamant that it was the best laser to use without question.

So, how do you feel about the results now?

i have raised acne scarring on my chin not sure exactly what it is but i would say they are probably hypertrophic scars. the co2 laser would work very well provided it was done correctly for those but the guy that did my chin for some reason only lasered some of the scars so i have to go back and have him finish the job. not sure how he missed some of them but thank goodness he is doing it for free at least. i go back jan 8th so i will update you then on my progress.

Does anyone know if being on isotretinoin (Accutane) can cause acne scarring to appear deeper, or more defined? I've noticed in the 2 months that I've been on the medication that sometimes, especially at the end of the day, my acne scarring seems to be much more noticeable than it did before I started taking it. More detailed, if that makes any sense.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can answer this question.

I've read some accounts of it happening, and that it's supposed to revert back after you finish, but I don't have personal experience unfortunately. Hope you're doing well, Cherry! Good luck with accutane, I bet it's wonderful to say good-bye to break-outs for good! :) My skin is currently doing much better due to pregnancy hormones and topical clindamycin so I haven't got much new scarring recently, but I may face the same treatment in the end.

My derm did tell me on January 8th that my sebaceous glands will once again begin to produce oil (thus, moisture in my skin) once I am finished with this course of Accutane. I suppose once that starts to happen, my scars won't appear as they do now. The current dryness I'm experiencing really does make the edges of the scars look a little "harsher", if that makes any sense.

I am doing well, thank you. I have been saying in this thread that I will create another thread on Acne.org devoted to my experiences with Accutane. But since the beginning of last month, I have been so busy with finals, and then the holidays and trips to see family, it seems like I have to keep postponing that goal. I really do need to, though. I just started my third month of isotretinoin, and it's such a good idea to maintain an online journal in order to keep track of one's experiences with the medication.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! That is so wonderful (plus, you have that added bonus of acne-zapping hormones). Cheers, austra!

I'm sure your skin and scarring will look better once the accutane dryness is over. :) I'd be very interested in reading your journal if you decide to start one, since I am seriously considering it for the future and am trying to read up on it more. It's completely understandable not to have time to keep such a journal though, even if it's very helpful I still wouldn't have energy/time for it myself.

And thank you, I'm very excited about this new phase in my life! It's so great to have much more important things to think about than how my skin looks. I only hope I can accept and deal with my scarring in such a way that my child will never pick up on how much it has bothered me and how self-conscious about my looks I've been because of it. In the end there are far more important things in life than some scarring.

Once I begin writing my Accutane log on Acne.org, I will certainly post a link to it on this thread.

So glad to hear about your excitement!

As you indicated, you can always try other treatments for your acne once the baby is born. And of course, you have the rest of your life to undergo procedures for your scarring. Right now, the most important thing is indeed your baby. There are more crucial things in life than scarring, and sometimes think about how my own scarring might not affect me so much if I had children of my own to concentrate on. However, I wouldn't know.

So, I will try my very best to begin an Accutane log this week. I'll keep you posted on this thread. :)

Hi CherrySoda,

Your skin is looking pretty good, i have also been working on my skin for a long time and experienced good results with accutane. I found dermarolling and acid peels to help with my skin issues which were hyperpigmentation and some slight ice pick scarring.

I look forward to reading your accutane journey and wish you the best!

If you don't mind my asking, how long have you been off of Accutane?

Right now, my plan is to wait at least 8 months to a year after finishing the course of Accutane that I'm currently taking. Then, I am pretty sure that I'll continue to get more punch excision/grafts (the minor surgery route), and perhaps visit a facial plastic surgeon to help me correct the deepest scar I've got on my left cheek. Pictures rarely ever capture its true depth or obviousness, but it bothers me more than any other scar I have.

After that, I think I will have some lasering done. However, that's a long-term plan for me. Something to think about having done in 2 or 3 years.

I'm open to the option of lasers, but since I really have seen success with my minor surgeries, I want to continue getting them until I'm satisfied with the results I know they're capable of producing.

Sorry to hear you ended up having to go on accutane. I hope its over soon for ya! I think your skin is looking great. Your scarring seems to be minimal IMO.
