LOL portland!!! i know exactly how you feel.. i have so many scars. a funny side note, i went to a new derm the other day, because the one i was going to was completely incompetant. and i found out that i have ice pick scars!!!! LOL i never thought i would be so happy about something like that. But i knew if they were ice pick that most likely dr y could punch float them. My incompetant derm told me they were 'rolling' scars, lol.. an she was a cosmetic derm..lol.. so yay for me having ice picks, hope everyone is doing well.. thanks for all the awesome updates misty!
I hear people trying to console by saying, "other's don't see you the way you see yourself," but I'm not bothered with what others think. I'm not looking to rid myself of my skin maladies to get a guy, or acceptance. I just want to be satisfied with the way I view myself on the outside. I don't need perfection, but I'll know my perfection when I see it.
Misty, I had a quick look yesterday but didn't have time to post. Congratulations on going ahead and doing this. You are lucky to have a husband who supports and understands how badly this bothers you. Now, that I have the actual acne under control, having these scars just takes me right back to when my acne was so bad. I can tell you how and when I got each and every one of them. Sad isn't it? Now for the questions/comments......
1. You do have the most gorgeous eyes!
2. I am still confused about punch floats because I just visited a local facial plastic surgeon yesterday and he said that he hadn't heard of them, but the way I was describing it sounded similar to subcision to him. When you say Dr. Y pulled the skin together before taping it, what do you mean exactly? Like an excision without the stitch? And if it is "lifting" the bottom of the scar up, what is filling in the depression?
3. I have hope now because I asked my youngest daughter if my scarring was similar to yours (you KNOW how honest kids are, lol) and she said yes, except for your skin was a little pinker. So, I am still thinking about the trip. Its just the logistics of how to swing 2 trips out to New Orleans that is kind of hard for me to figure right now, but where there is a will, there is a way!
4. Why do plastic surgeons recommend spot dermabrasions on depressed scars? This just seems like it would make the whole scar wider and leave a person with weird uneven skin. Grrrrrrrr, I just spent $110 on a consultation where he told me that's what he would recommend. I'm losing hope with these doctors in Portland.

Good luck Misty,
I look forward to hearing of your great progress. I know you had that CROSSed scar punch-floated. Just curious, do you know what Dr. Y thinks of CROSS? I assume he doesn't do it. It seems like a tough choice for me. I just have one or two small pits that bother me. I suppose I could do what you did and try one first, then the other if that doesn't work!
Thanks!
Thanks for answering all of those questions Misty. I get so miffed when they expect you to pay $110-$235 for a half hour consultation, but they haven't kept up with what is going on in the scar revision world.
Thank goodness for you and everyone else who shares their experiences!
Oh, and Morris.......I think you might actually do well with smoothbeam. I have similar boxcar scarring on my cheeks and smoothbeam has helped fill them in. Didn't do anything for my borderline ice pick scarring, but for overall smoothing I think it did really help. Still, you'd have to commit to 4, at the very least, with 6-8 being optimal. Then go on to do what Misty is doing, with punch floats and dermabrasion.

Sorry if this has already been covered, but am i correct in thinking, that, if you were to get punch floats done, you would get them done before getting dermabrassion, and is it a must that you have the dermabrassion after getting floats done? because wouldnt the floats themselves leave a tiny little scar, inplace of the old scar, although obviously it wouldn't be nearly as noticable as the previous scar.
Thanks

Hi Caroline.
I have been out and about since day one freaking out the norms....lolol.
The strips should fall off between days 5 and 7. Cassandra stated that makeup can be worn at that time. I know I will be waiting until at least day 7, because that is when I have to remove the suture. Once the steri-strips fall off I plan on taking a good hard look and make sure I feel comfortable with how the areas look before I cover them in makeup. I believe Kiki wore makeup on Day 5, so they heal quickly. It is really difficult making a judgement call staring at these little strips all day...ugh. I will keep you updated!

Hi Poe! I hope you are doing well with your recovery. I read a bit that you posted about having some pigmentation problems. Are you happy overall with your outcome?
