I am bumping this. It is interesting and it has me trippin' out a little.

I just read this entire thread. Wow, this is strange. . . .

I felt like I was being punished while reading that.

So basically take a 24hr anti-histamine (piriton), lots of omega-6, borage, evening primrose, calcium citrate, and GLA. Also, try not to take a whole lot of Vitamin A (such as supplements) That was a long read.

needling works great for AMVC scarring as they are typically very shallow--if near Washington,DC area try Lilian Omar at [edited link out]

she's good at it and doesn't charge a fortune ....

miyuuki

stop the fish oil.

have you taken accutane before?

read up on lamarr's posts. very informative

you can take EPO as its omega 6. the omega 3's are bad for spontaneous scarring

and stop any and all vit A intake

Again, did you take Accutane?

EPO is Evening primrose oil

went to Derm today to see what they would say about this new weird "plot-twist" in the Accutane story...

i took Accutane 15 yrs ago and this AMVC stuff is just starting a few months ago...very strange and unexpected. Thought i was done with this stuff but i'm back in it in a big way--ugh.

the doc was clueless as to what-how-why this is happening (as i knew he would be--i just went for the fun of it, fully expecting no solution).

This is still too new of a phenomenon for the derms to get what is really going on. so we're on our own until the medical establishment catches up ....

How is your calcium intake like?

What about your vitamin A intake?

Did you take accutane?

I believe I have some form of AMVC. My problems began either after I used Duac acne gel or after I used the Z Pack antiobiotic pills. Since then, I have been battling terrible skin problems starting with red/pink patches of skin and then after that, my entire face started getting tiny tiny bumps visible in good lighting, and then after that the skin texture mainly on my forehead, front cheeks and chin starting changing and causing spontaneous linear scarring and scarred pores....It's like the skin is so weak. My skin hurts most of the time. I feel strange pricking, tingling, slight sharp pains. It used to be much worse though and the skin was extremely red and tight. I felt intense crawling on my face and slightly on my scalp too. Sometimes on my body as well. I want to know if anyone on this board with AMVC has experienced such sensations? Or no?

My dermatologist found demodex mites through a skin scraping which I demanded because I had an odd hunch that the skin was inflamed from these parasites.

Here is my somewhat theory on what's going on: Antibiotics or certain drugs and factors caused an autoimmune reaction that overpopulated these mites. Basically setting of a demodicosis or rosacea like problem...but a demodectic rosacea. I'm wondering if everyone here with AMVC experiences flushing and has had pink skin before the scarring occured/occurs?

The demodicosis is an overpopulation of these mites on our faces and they breed mainly on the face....and scalp....they love the oily parts of the skin so if you are getting scars in the t zone area...that would make sense too because they are mainly surviving and breeding and bunching together in those areas.

Their bacteria and their overpopulation is causing the skin to be compromised and have a horrible immune reaction created lines, scars, dents, bumps, etc. It's also making the skin weaker that it is susceptible to this kind of trauma happening.

It is possible for the mites to be traveling around the whole body too....I would like to know if anyone on these boards with AMVC has also had some light crawling sensations on their body? Or itching?

These mites can overpopulate so much for some that eczema starts to show up and other skin rashes and problems. AMVC sufferers, demand dermatologists to do biopsies and skin scrapings for these mites and find out the demodex count in your skin also.

I am dealing with these problems too. I have been battling the demodex mites for a long time now and it quite unnerving. So far, I have found a few things that help....being less stressed, not using moisturizer or lotion as this will create more dents and lines because the mites love moisture, not washing the face with water too much, metronidazole pills at 375mg twice a day for 2 weeks was helpful, metorgel, demodex solutions ZZ cream and fumangling day cream with the metrogel 3% in it, a bactericide cleanser, and permethrin. Permethrin seemed to helped a lot with the dents and lines, but I had to stop for fear of the neurotoxicity of it. The sun and sun bathing perhaps also helped.

I have felt strange tingling in my body and slight pangs, but after learning to ignore them, I am not sure whether to say this is a problem anymore. It's possible this was a strung out side effect of the permethrin.

Anyway, I would love to hear back from AMVC people responding to the questions I have asked in this post. That would really help me more.

As exhibited by this person, the demodex mite's bacteria increases when moist and hot. They are happier in warm, hot, environments. So if you flush from working out or are in hot weather, they will be happy and your skin may be compromised yet again and start forming scars from the immune reaction and bacteria.

I literally read your post several months ago without replying. Two weeks ago, after I started back working out again, I realized portions of your post were identical to my situation. 1) The scarring started after taking Bactrim 2) Exercising, Sweating, or Heat would cause flushing ( skin redness, tightness, slight burning), which resulted in scarring 2-3 days later). After a long battle simply trying to figure out what was going out, I'm delighted to hear that someone else experienced the same sequence of symptoms. Also, the face that the scarring is isolated on the cheek area makes me believe that it is some form of rosacea also.

PLEASE people stop getting crazy...if you see those dark lines you can obviously see that

the skin close to this line is very new/white... can you observe that ? its like your body is pushing the old skin to right or left and creating new skin....

the problem is why the body doesnt reject and exfoliate this skin? maybe because it is fibrotic tissue?

the same lines have been observed from users of retin a...its like removing partially the hyperpimentation but a line remains and the cells are being acccumulated.

any comments?

So I know I'm reviving a very old thread, but my attention has recently been redirected to this thread since I've been experiencing random, spontaneous scars since March. I've gone to many dermatologists only to be given no answer. I had skin scrapings for fungal/yeast infections as well as scabies done and all came back negative. I had a blood test for autoimmune disorders done as well, which came back negative - I am however, waiting on the results of a second blood test done recently since my initial blood test, done by a LabCorps office back in April, contained many errors in the patient info section (gender, age, etc) so a nurse suggested I get another test done to ensure that the blood is even mine. Also since April, I've been experiencing prickling and tingly sensations all over my body. It's been a very rough 5 months coming for me and I'm desperate for help and an end to this madness.

I scoured the contents of this thread since I was referred from my thread on EssentialDaySpa ( http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=49123 ). And I hope frequent posters such as freedom will be able to assist me, but from what I've gathered so far, I could possibly have calcium deficiency (I avoid dairy for the most part, at least in its most direct forms, such as milk) and I definitely overdosed on omega 3's since I ate fish for about 7 months straight or so (I've stopped fish cold turkey since April, though). What I'm gathering is that I should start taking calcium citrate along with some type of GLA supplement (such as evening primrose oil)? If someone could clarify for me, it'd be great. Thanks so much

Boafriend,

I stumbled across this thread and have spent hours reading it from start to finish all through the night. Boy, was surprised to see you are the latest post - I had earlier posted on your thread at EDS! I wish I could say that I feel encouraged, but honestly am sick to my stomach! My daughter is a beautiful 17-year-old about to go off to college and her derm is prescribing accutane. She recently had some blood work and things were slightly off - High EOS 6 and a low neutrophil...docs said it could be allergies. The scarring is getting worse, especially after exposure to the sun. The are small dots and keep connecting to form small lines. She also had some mild acne, but honestly this has all but cleared up except an occasional pimple here and there. I am FREAKING OUT that she may have AMVC!!! Or a form of lupus. I don't know what to do.

She has had Lyme and been on many, many oral antibiotics. Most recently a long-term treatment that I encouraged, which now I am experiencing incredible guilt over if this the reason this is happening!!

I have been trying to repair her system with probiotics - but also using the omega 3 (at a very low dose), zinc w/copper; and B complex, D and C 500mg (recommended by gyno). I will take her off these supplements and start using the calcium.

There are so many new posters here and I am hoping that some of the previous ones will come back and update... OMG - PLEASE HELP!!! I am so torn as to weather to start her on the accutane!!!! ANYONE?

I have a couple of these scars. They are very shallow and quite neat and symmetrical. They remind me of the imprint that small fossils leave in rocks. Mine are all on the right side of my face, which is the side that gets the most sun when I drive. I have been on accutane several times.

Apparently all we have right now is to take calcium (try one that contains magnesium, but not magnesium stereate) and add some type of GLA supplement such as evening primrose oil or borage oil.

You didn't mention Lyme and any of that in the EssentialDaySpa thread, so that's interesting because I suspected Lyme for myself since I have had prickling/tingly sensations all over, but I've never been bitten by said bug because I never had the bullseye like mark anywhere on me.

If her acne isn't bad, I'd say stay clear of Accutane for now, especially since she is experiencing this random scarring as well. Accutane is very powerful and cause many bodily changes, so don't risk anything right now.

Thank you for the advice. I have stopped the omega 3 and I swear that some of her scarring has also improved. We also have cut back on her zinc, which shuts down the sebaceous glands - hoping this will start the oils to slowly reproduce and fill in the pits. This is so depressing - praying for a solution is all I can do!!

That's wondrous to hear. Compass from the EDS Forum claims her daughter's scarring seemed to have improved via oral evening primrose oil as well as topical application. I'm still experiencing those dot-line dents, though. I applied evening primrose oil two nights and have taken it for a few days orally, but I'm not seeing any immediate improvements. :( The fact that those line-dents are continuing is a sign enough.

Keep everyone updated in the EDS thread as well, since it seems this thread here on Acne.org isn't gaining any momentum.

Just wanted to do a quick update. After talking with both a derm and GP, we decided to start her on 10mg of accutane. She is doing very well. Neither of them seem to be too concerned with the scarring but more in the prevention of further acne. What I have discovered is that her scarring is far less noticeable with the application of lots of moisturizer. Perhaps those with these scars are a result of the harsh chemicals and no moisture to allow the skin to plump and recover successfully. I have advised her to use copious amounts of moisturizer during this time and WILL NOT put her on a high dose, but a lower one to minimize the side effects. While I am extremely uncertain as to this path and am worried, so worried, she wants to do this as well.

Good to see an update from you, finally.

Yeah people have mentioned the whole using more moisturizer thing, but I still find it hard to believe that lack of moisture can cause that type of damage (scarring), because scarring results from an inflammatory response underneath the skin. I mean, there are tons of people in the world with dry skin and tons of people who don't use moisturizer at all....and you're not hearing reports left and right about these people having random scars form on their faces. It's food for thought, but I personally find the lack of moisturizer theory to not make any sense.

Please keep me and others updated in the Essential Day Spa thread that I started because this Acne.org AMVC thread is very dead. Best of luck to your daughter!

Also, try looking into a holistic/naturopath because they might be able to give you some explanations from an internal standpoint. It's worth a shot if most dermatologists aren't able to diagnose or help as far as the scarring is concerned.

I think I have this. I keep finding new scars where there was no previous acne. Has anyone found any new information as to what may cause this? I have never been on Accutane or taken high dose Vit A. Thanks.

I hate to tell you, but you'll probably find no answer to any of it. I've been to a number of dermatologists (like many stories you'll read here and across the Internet) and everyone has been nothing but helpless. Most dermatologists will just try prescribing you Retin-A or some Vitamin A based topical, saying it can help rebuild collagen or they'll prescribe you antibiotics for acne or your typical prescription acne topical medications. I even went to UCLA and was brushed off rudely as being too obsessed about my appearance and was accused of having picked at my acne when I clearly hadn't (the doctor I saw also regarded some of my linear scars as wrinkles. They clearly were NOT wrinkles. I was 23 at the time, too, and have been a religious sunscreen user since 14).

In general, some dermatologists may have heard about AMVC but the information on it is too little and those who've heard of it will say you don't have it "just because it's rare."

Anyways, my condolences to you if you're pretty sure you have this "disease." I've had it since March of this year and it's permanently destroyed my self esteem and my face. Most of the scars and lines aren't MAJOR but they're noticeable up close, and it just really sucks.

May i ask how much improvement you got with it and how long the needles were?

I had a dermastamp (3, actually). I stopped doing it because I had subcision and filler for the 2 pockmarks that were on my cheek. It's been over a year now, and the fillers have faded, and the pockmarks are visible once again.

And because I have spontaneous scarring now, there's no point in attempting to stamp when my skin is going to deteriorate on its own. I have various indentions and little linear lines all over, including some spontaneous wrinkle looking creases on my forehead. It's very depressing.

Why is it happening? Does fish oil cause this?

I had a dermastamp (3, actually). I stopped doing it because I had subcision and filler for the 2 pockmarks that were on my cheek. It's been over a year now, and the fillers have faded, and the pockmarks are visible once again.

And because I have spontaneous scarring now, there's no point in attempting to stamp when my skin is going to deteriorate on its own. I have various indentions and little linear lines all over, including some spontaneous wrinkle looking creases on my forehead. It's very depressing.

Why is it happening? Does fish oil cause this?

Well, I wish I knew why it was happening, but I don't.

And people have said fish oil causes it, but there's no solid research or medical evidence to support this claim.
