I haven't read all of this thread (it's over 20 pages, after all), but I've read enough that I wanted to chime in with my own experience.
I'm 28 now. A few years ago, I started developing spontaneous scarring on my face.
There would be no prior wound whatsoever, nor injury that could cause a wound. No new skin cream. Nothing.
Everything will be fine. And then I'll look in the mirror, and it's like someone took a little needle and dug out a little piece of flesh, leaving behind an indentation.
Sometimes the indentation is triangular, sometimes more circular.
They seem to occur most in a line going diagonally down my cheeks, right above the line of my beard, and higher up on my cheeks on either side of my nose.
While it may or may not be related, I will also have something similar happen where a pore (I believe) will decide to quadruple in size, open way up, and never close. These pores never close. Actually, I think they just widen over time, as they fill up with crap that's nearly impossible to remove.
I mention the latter because it started around the same time as the former.
And what stops them? I don't know. What causes them? I don't know.
All I know is that at this rate, I'm probably gonna look like I was in a rather hideous accident with a pile of broken glass by the time I'm 40.
My acne is pretty well controlled at this point by diet, zinc, B3, natural soaps and tea tree oil, when something manages to crop up (note: maybe my regime has nothing to do with halting my acne. This is not a medical claim.)
I do not take any medications, and I don't use an OTC or prescription creams, etc.
I HAVE been on large doses of antibiotics for long periods of time at different points in my life, Doxycycline included.
I just wanted to chime in as...Well, to any sensible person, scars are the result of injuries. Having scars and holes in your face appear spontaneously defies common sense. And common sense is simply wrong in this case.
So while it sounds like other posters with this problem (or a related problem, in case these symptoms can be caused by different things) have it far worse than I do...Whatever they have is real, and sucks like hell.
That's all.
IMho, i dont even know if these are really scars.
I mean, i used to think my bro had pretty good skin. Guess what? he has line like indentations all on the side of his face.
I have random scarring as well. Never had lesions there, and got scars.
I mean some of the scars are triangular, some are like line like scars, and some well, are like cracks?
Some questions to wonder.
1) do you guys have seborrheic dermaitits (which causes inflammation to the skin)
2) do you have eczema
3) do you have rosacea
4)I also took antibiotics, but i had some of these random scars before taking them.
Also, i was looking at some video my friend showed me about models (im not gay, but my friend is a girl and she wanted to show me someone she knows who looks like a certain model). Anyways, in some angles, these models had the SAME TYPE of scarring that i have and my brother has.
I think it might have something to do with the sleeping and pillow creases. Maybe these things show up because we sleep with the sides of our face on the pillow? Maybe using satin pillow sheets is the best alternative?

I think and hope your problems are from the vitamin A. You said you and your husband both got it and both used the vit A and the LED lights. It's highly improbable you both have lupus and got it at the same time.
Vit A is worse than accutane, but most people don't realize this because it's not well-publicized. It causes all the symptoms you've mentioned. Vit A makes you VERY sensitive to the sun and I would imagine that would extend to LED lights too. You probably got burnt by the LED and also have photo-sensitivity, which includes the eyes.
You should not be taking zinc, since zinc actually raises levels of Vitamin A -- you'll never get rid of the excess A -- or it will take longer with the zinc.
Here are the symptoms of vitamin A toxicity from emedicine
Vitamin A
Acute toxicity effects include headache, photophobia, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, drowsiness, irritability, seizures, and desquamation after 24 hours.
Chronic toxicity affects the skin, the mucous membranes, and the musculoskeletal and neurologic systems.
Skin and mucous membrane effects include erythema, eczema, pruritus, dry and cracked skin, angular cheilitis, conjunctivitis, palmar and plantar peeling, and alopecia.
Musculoskeletal effects include pain and tenderness, particularly in the long bones of the upper and lower extremities, which may be exacerbated by exercise; epiphyseal capping and premature epiphyseal closure may occur in children.
Neurologic effects include blurred vision and frontal headache, which is often the first sign of toxicity.
Findings also include idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH), hepatomegaly, ascites, erythematous dermatitis, migratory arthritis, craniotabes in children, or bulging fontanelle in infants.
Recent studies suggest that elevated levels of vitamin A may cause increased bone resorption and promote development of osteoporosis.4,5
I think I also read that it increases calcium, so you might want to stop taking that too. I read you want to take copper. Be careful. Copper,if too high causes major problems. If I were in your situtation, I would stop all supplements until things returned to normal and then re-add them one at a time to see what happens.
I hope you don't have lupus.
Here's the part about calcium and vitamin a. Apparently, too much vit. a causes high calcium.
Complications
*
Excessively high calcium levels
*
Failure to thrive in infants
*
Kidney damage due to high calcium
*
Liver damage

Higher zinc intake increases vitamin A level
by Newsletter Editor
Zinc supplements increased vitamin A levels in older adults, according to a new study. Researchers recruited 387 men and women, aged 55 to 85, who took a placebo, 15 mg of zincawhich is the U.S. Recommended Dietary Allowanceaor 30 mg of zinc per day, for six months. Researchers measured blood-plasma levels of vitamin A (retinol) at the start of the study, and at three and six months, and found that levels of vitamin A increased as the zinc dosage and length of treatment time increased. In explaining the reason for the study, researchers noted that low zinc levels can prevent the body from absorbing vitamin A.

This can be why your Vit A symptoms are lingering and mimicking (I hope) lupus.

how high does the doseage of zinc have to be? I am assuming quite high, no?
Well, the study above used 30 mgs.
She already took vitamin A though, so zinc would probably keep the A in her body longer -- as long as she was taking the zinc.
A regular person (someone who hasn't taken vit. A) would probably not have major problems taking zinc unless they went too high on the zinc, and zinc on its own can be toxic above a certain level.

tehe only problems me, and the most of posters on this site are concerned about are scarring. As long as zinc helps the scarring and healing ability of the skin, we are fine witht hat.
So basically, zinc would have negative effects IF you took high doses of vitamin A? Does taking a multivitamin constitute high doses of vit a?
A multivitamin has low levels of vit. a.
I really can't answer your other question because the zinc raised vit. a in the study didn't focus on scarring. I only posted it here for her, since she took vit.A and then had problems, is still having problems and is taking zinc. I posted it so she would see that maybe the vit. A was still in her body from the zinc.

i dont think she visits this site anymore, unfortunately.
Yeah, on the left side of the picture.Accutane was also the cause of my massive pores though. I'm worried about doing needling because I can't risk making things worst with the horrible skin texture I already have.
i think those pores can be tca crossed. Try it on one pore, and see how it works?
Grrr Well after months of not having any spontaneous scarring I just got a small new one emerge. The only new things that I see as potentially causing it are I had a vitalize peel over a week ago which has resorcinol, which is a vitamin A derivative, and I started taking lecithin two days ago which has some EFAs including linoleic acid. I intended to get another vitalize peel but I think I am going to get a different peel without vitamin A derivative in it. I have also been doing tons of lactic peels without any issues. I saw some mention of EFAs also potentially causing spontaneous scarring?
Freedom - were your spontaneous scars red first then became depressed afterwards ?
wow.. this is exactly what's happening to me... I don't know what to do at this point, they just keep coming..
did you take accutane?
yes. a very heavy dose at 80mg a day.
have they stopped for you? what have you taken?

it stopped... and a few days ago i woke up with another one on my forehead. I did not get one prior to that for many months. FML
Hi I'm new to this website. I have also been getting scars for no reason. I have linear scars like some people who have posted photos on here. I'm very worried now because i don't know what is happening to my face.
Here is a little bit about me: I am 23 years old, female, asian. I was diagnosed with rosacea last september. Since then my skin has been very sensitive and i have developed seb derm and perioral derm. After finding out what i had, i started on some new skin care products and makeup to prevent further redness and decrease flareups. I haven't really seen a difference, but all i know is i have been getting acne since then. I now get one big cyst every 3 weeks, as one clears up another would appear. I have also realised i scar a lot easier now than before. 1-2 years ago i would only get one pimple every 3-4 months! and would never scar after it. But now i get one every 2-3weeks and scar. I have noticed 4 spontaneous scars since last year (i will post some photos later).
I was also diagnosed with anxiety and depression last december. I am not taking any meds for this. Just treating it with CBT.
I have been on herbalife since i was 19 and lost 19kgs in 7 months. I still take the products (so far been on it for 4 years). I drink the shakes and take a whole bunch of vitamins. When i was taking it i didn't see any change in my skin so i'm assuming herbalife isn't the cause of all my skin problems?? Or maybe it is after all these years?? Who knows, any advice?
What i am doing and taking now:
For my skin - i use dr. hauschka cleansing milk, quince day cream and i was using their foundation too. But thought it may have been causing breakouts so now i use nude by nature mineral foundation (Still seeing how it goes). I occasionally use cortisone creams for my seb derm, but will stop now because i know it will cause more harm to my skin. I also use Rozex for rosacea.
Supplements - i take herbalife products. I drink the shakes, drink their teas, take multivitamin, cellulose, florafibre, etc (these are all herbalife products). I started taking a lot of Blackmores fish oil last october-dec (i took 6 per day, i know it's crazy but i was desperate and depressed). I found that this helped with the rosacea as it decreases inflammation, so it decreased the redness. Then in dec i only took 2-4 a day and sometimes forget as well. From february-april i started taking 4-6 again. But now, most days i'll forget to take it. Could this be causing the scarring?
Diet - i eat anything. I am somewhat unhealthy with food, as i love to eat desserts and junk food. But i've been like this since i was a kid.
To be honest, the linear scars are quite shallow and i noticed them sometime last year (honestly i can't remember when, maybe even 2 years ago) but never really put much thought into it. But today i realised a scar on my cheek near my nose. So it got me thinking. It looks like a triangle shape with defined edges, so it is quite noticeable to me and probably to others as well. I never had a pimple there or anything! Maybe dry skin in that area from seb/perioral derm, but thats it!!
This is really making me upset i had beautiful, clear, light pale skin and now its red, rough bumpy, dry, feels tight and burning, scarred skin. Why is this happening?? What could be causing it?? Should i stop ALL vitamins, i.e. completely stop herbalife? and stop taking fish oil?
I don't even know how i got rosacea in the first place. Then seb/perioral derm and i started scarring easily. Basically everything started last year and it has been downhill since then.
I am very sorry for such a long post but i just wanted to tell my story and what has been happening so i can get some advice. I have read many posts on this topic but just don't know where to start. Any advice would be great, thanks!
Lamarr went to doctor chu with the information about spontaneous scarring and he agreed that this was what what he had, I am 22 and lamarr is 23, and the condition is most common in young adults.
So, question. When would you say that your no longer considered a young adult. Because I have taken accutane twice when I was 23 and 24 years of age and have currently started a third round. I was taking high dosages (2 tablespoons a day) of cod liver oil, along with my multi- vitamins that have lots of vitamin a in it and have never had this. This truly sounds so beyond far fetched. Oh, and I am also taking fish oil while on accutane now.

a question.. did you take any antibiotics before all this shit happened? If so, which ones?
Also, regarding the linear scars, to truly see if these are scars, try treating the seborrheic dermatitsi with either a ketacanozle topical, shampoo, corticosteroid (be careful with these) or elidel and see if the scar goes away. I noticed some areas of my face what looked like a scar, was just scaliness/dead skin from seb derm.
Also, please post a photo of your seborrheic dermatitis.

One more thing, do you scar only in areas where you have seborrheic dermatitis? or do the pimples scar regardless if they are on areas of seb derm?

I have not taken any antibiotics or any medication. Or maybe i have when i got the flu in january. I can't remember. So what do antibiotics have to do with the scarring? Is there a way to reverse it??
In regards to the linear scars, i think i've had it for over a year. I do not have seb derm where the linear scars are. At first i thought it was just a crease from sleeping, but it never went away. I think i have very mild seb derm/perioral derm?? I'm not sure if it's true because i was diagnosed by a normal GP. To be honest I'm not even exactly sure what i have. But i definitely have rosacea and some sort of dermatitis (because i get dry, scaly, bumpy, itchy skin). I'll be seeing another dermatologist next Wednesday, it's very hard to find one i like. Most of them always try to rush things.
*I am getting spontaneous scars which look like large pores connected together. Somewhat forming triangular, rectangular shapes and stretching out to linear scars. I'm very worried because it seems as though the scars are expanding. I had a triangle-shaped scar but now it has connected to another pore forming a rectangle.
One more thing, do you scar only in areas where you have seborrheic dermatitis? or do the pimples scar regardless if they are on areas of seb derm?
I scar anywhere, regardless of where the seb derm is.
What's worrying me the most are these random scars forming out of nowhere!! I am just hoping these random scars is because of the fish oil, i do not want to live like this for the rest of my life continuously getting scars for no reason.
What would you recommend? Just stop the fish oil? Or completely stop all vitamins including the shake? I think the shakes are made out of soybeans etc.
I will post some photos when i figure out how to. Anyone like to help me out?.
I would just like to add - i also started taking vitamin D on and off 3 weeks ago . So some days i would forget and others i would take it. My pores started to enlarge in February and has been since then. What's wrong?!?!
