Seb derm can cause scarring, but that wouldn't be AMVC. What we are dealing with here are scars showing up on fairly healthy skin. Antibiotics themselves could possibly cause AMVC by interacting with the immune system in a way that causes it to begin attacking the body's tissues.
Where have you read that sub derm can create scarring???
If you peel it and the skin pulled off a bit and got irritated it could cause scarring...but it wouldn't cause these AMVC scars. That is what I meant.

hey praisethelord, do you think the seb.derm is related to the scarring? The weird thing is i only have it on my eyebrows and hair, not the area where i scarred.
Did you ever figure out how to stop your scarring btw?

btw i asked my derm recently (he is a very nice derm, and he knows my family, so i really believe he cares about people rather than just being money hungry i.e. he offered to treat my acne without any charge.) and he said that seborrheic dermatitis DOES NOT cause scarring. Even if you peel off the dead skin/dandruff/white stuff that it produces, you cannot scar because it is not deep enough.

I'm sure he is a good derm who does care. I agree that seb derm shouldn't cause scarring under normal circumstances, but many of us are getting scarring for no reason, which shouldn't happen either. So for someone to absolutely say without a doubt that something does not cause scarring doesn't seem comforting anymore. I have gotten scars just from rubbing my skin gently so anything is possible as far as I'm concerned, if I had seb derm (which I don't) and I was even gently scraping the skin off I have no doubt that I would get a new random scar just from the friction/irritation. That is where I stand with this whole seb derm/scarring issue. None of us know why we are sprouting scars but underlying inflammation triggered by various things seems to be the root cause.
Have you shown this derm your scars and asked him what he thinks?
silly thought, but timeheals all, if your scar is linear and between your eyebrows couldnt it just be a worry line? my mum and myself have a line between our eyes from pulling angry faces when we are upset. over time, much like laugh lines, they form indentations in the skin. given your brother has it too, its probably a good indication to what it is.
iloveuk - i know yours is more serious than this and im hoping you find something that helps you soon.
cartwheeling ive actually been messaging iloveuka bout this.
I dont have the scar on my eyebrow area, but that is where the seb.derm is located
I have a linear scar right next to my nose on my cheek. There is a photo of it on the thread "random scar spawned"
I also got 2 more random scars which i already told iloveuk about.
Do you know if antibiotics could be causing this?
to be honest, i no clue buddy which is why i keep throwing out suggestions. its something i dont understand at all. if my suggestions are getting annoying, let me know and ill stop.
i realise iloveuk has been diagnosed with a specific condition. im sure you know the name of it too (after chatting to her). i recommend you do an indepth search of google to see what you can come up with. i would love to help, but my thesis is due next week and i need to move by bed before the spiders get in.
try the evening primrose mate. it couldnt hurt.
now with the idea your brother has the same thing - that isnt logical in my view - unless its genetic and then none of us can help you or you live in the same environment. i know iloveuk has a light sensitivity which has possibly been brought on by the LEDs - since she tried it on her husband and the same happened to him.

what name brand should i get and how much do i take daily?
omg, iloveuk this is seriously fucking freaking me out.
I just woke up today WITH 2 NEW SCARS!
One of them showed near a pimple that spanwed (next to it, not on the pimple) and another showed up on my left cheek (an area i didnt get these random scars)
Should i immediately stop the antibiotics? do you think this can be the cause?
I am so scared..

How deep are they? I sent you a PM but would be good to let others hear about it as well. I get that too - even the tiniest pimple will bring on a line next to it, or in a circle around it, which is super weird. In fact I can tell of I have a pimple coming on because a random red depressed circular will show up and then the tiniest of pimple shows up in the middle of the circle. The pimple will heal fine, but the circular line scar stays
It is up to you what to do about the antibiotics - it's hard to say if going off of them will stop the scarring...
I wanted to add for you...if you are getting a scar next to the pimple then that means that the scar is definitely caused by inflammation under the skin. The pimple is an irritation/inflammation and the scar forms in response to that, because the tissue around a forming pimple swells to some degree. You need to figure out what is inflaming your skin
Let me ask you a question, if you are to rub an area of your skin, or squeeze it slightly, how quickly does the skin return to normal? I ask because my skin is so sensitive right now that if I even slightly scratch my chin like I have an itch (where I have no AMVC scars) the skin welts up and looks like hives or something and then takes hours to return to normal. If I were to try to gently squeeze a blackhead, I learned the hard way that a random scar will show up in a line and extend even far beyond where the skin had been ever so slightly compressed. This is how I got a few of my first random scars before I realized what was happening. So there is no doubt that this is happening because the skin is irritated and abnormally inflamed by SOMETHING, be it a bacteria/light sensitivity/retinoids/vitamin a/antibiotics/or harsh products. We know you are using topicals for acne and they don't seem to be irritating you, but is there a possibility that over time they are irritating and weakening your skin? I spent my teen years on these types of things and they did ruin my skin to some degree, although in the past year I regained my skin health, only to have it collapse thanks to two weeks of vitamin a. However there is no doubt that if I were using those topicals again I would certainly be scarring worse than I am now, if that is even possible. So please give consideration to EVERYTHING that you are putting on your skin in addition to what you are taking internally. Skin is delicate and needs to be treated that way, maybe this scarring stuff is telling us that it needs a break from everything for awhile

Do you use any cleanser/moisturizure now? Or just water.
And do you have a lot of shallow scarring now? Or did you have hyperpigmentation... and if so - did it sort of fade over the period of the last year?
I too have hurt my face a lot through the many different products/chemical peels I have done, and I used to be able to pop a pimple, rub some vitamin e on it, and it wouldn't scar, now my skin scars easily... doesn't heal like it used to.
I really need to stop these 10% glycolic products and chemical peels...
it's like an addiction, and I'm afraid to stop.

Right now I just use the oil cleansing method with coconut oil, that's it. Water alone got too drying for me. Everything I have tried topically to stop the scarring in the past 4 months has made everything worse so just sticking with this for now. It is actually what I used in addition to diet changes to improve my skin so much in the past year.
I had no shallow scarring until this random scarring started 4 months ago. I had deeper boxcar and rolling scars on my upper cheeks and temples and that was it. I had some large pores on my inner cheeks. Any hyperpigmentation I had improved alot in the past year, but now I have a lot since this scarring began.
Yeah, the chemical peels will kill your skin, although we have done them thinking they are helping but I think over time they just do more damage. Back in the day I used to use glycolic acid everything...The good news is your skin can heal alot once you stop using the acids, mine did, although I am in a completely different situation now that I have no idea how to get out of
i dont know about the pimple thing cuz so far i got like 4-5 random scars, and only of them was near a pimple..
Also regarding the products, most of my life, i didnt really use harsh products. i mean sure i used acne cleansers once in a while but never prolonged period
i am 20 years old btw.
Regarding the BP, i always used it on and off, usually only used it when i had active pimples, but recently for 2 weeks i started using it as a preventive measure.
BUt i have gotten these scars on areas i havent even fucking applied BP TO!!

hmm, regarding the squeeze/rubbing test, how hard should i be squeezing/rubbing that area for?
Also, i need to see a doctor. Iloveuk, have you had any help from the medical world?

awakeodin, what type of products did you use that were harsh?
please try to think hard and tell me!
one more thing iloveuk, didnt you mention earlier that your husband has similar scarring? Is he still scarring on a daily basis?
I should also mention that i changed my water filter recently (before i used just tap water, and now i wash my face with filtered water using the pur 3 stage horizontal filter).
Do you think this could have caused it (although that linear scar i got before changing filters).
Also, my scars are mostly shallow i think, but i am not sure. It is really saddening what is happening
One more thing i should mention, everytime so far when i get these scars, it always seems to happen at night when i am sleeping rather than when i am awake. I always get them during the middle of the night.
Any clues?

I just wanted to see how sensitive your skin is...if it overreacts to gentle rubbing with redness and inflammation like mine does then that is a clue that there is some underlying inflammation

I don't know if he is still scarring, he doesn't like it when I ook at him closely like that because he gets weirded out so I'm not sure. I don't believe he is still scarring, but he could be. He never noticed it, I just noticed the same shallow line shapes in his skin that I get although his skin has decent texture right now unlike mine so my scars are way more noticeable...
I don't think it's water, I have been using the same water filtration system in my house for 4 years now. And we have a really good system. My kids (age 9 and 6) have perfect skin and we all use the same water
I don't know why your scars come out after sleeping, mine come out equally both night and day. Before I wash my face at night I look in the mirror and can usually find a couple of scars that weren't there in the morning. Sometimes I will also wake up with new scars. I have also watched them form while gently rubbing lotion into my skin. Also I have tried using a vitamin C serum on my skin and after a few hours had new scars show up in those areas. Actually, this happens with any topical I use, which is why I just wash it and then leave it alone no matter how dry it feels. Yes, it is a nightmare...
I have noticed that my face and body itch at night and it wakes me up because I have trained myself to wake up as soon as I sense something on my face. If anything irritates my face at night or I feel something touch it I wake up right away. I have always been super sensitive that way though. I think the itching is dry skin. In your case it is prob. seb derm
The medical world has been no help. The first derm I saw told me nothing was wrong and that I just had wrinkles and I should see a psychiatrist and get laser done. He didn't believe that my scarring was coming out of nowhere. The second derm said that there was obviously a serious problem, ran some tests, and really found nothing but guesses I have porphyria (sensitivity to light that causes scarring) but he has retracted a bit on that. Some of my more recent tests for that have come back negative. So he basically told me there is nothing he can do and told me not to make another appointment because he doesn't think he can help me anymore. So I am on my own. The next thing I am going to do is see my friend who is a clinical hypnotherapist who works with medical issues to see if I can get anywhere with that. It's worth a try. If nothing else maybe she can hypnotize me not to see the scars and have crying fits every time I look in the mirror.

well i tried that test you told me (scratching/rubbing/pinching skin that doesnt have scarring) and it looked normal the whole time.
Also, what sucks is i just talked to my parents about this (i am 20 years old) and that was not helpful AT ALL. They saw the scars i was talking about and told me im fucking insane. They said the linear one i got was by scratching myself and it will go away. The other ones they said they could not see, and if they did see it, WHO CARES, OTHER PEOPLE HAVE WORSE PROBLEMS (didnt really help my situation).
I really believe my situation is related to my sleep. I only get them after i wake up. I really believe it is the pillow cases causing this.. Do you know of any good pilllow cases to use? Are silk/satin pillowcases the best?
Also, how do you train yourself to wake up when your itchy, i hope i am not scratching myself when i am asleep (especially on my pimples)
Regarding the water filtration system, i just use a simple tap water filter (it costs me 40 dollars) and the filters i have to replace like every two months and they cost around 15 dollars. What does your filtration system filter out?
Also, regarding that poryphria thing, would you get the scarring from ANY type of light or just Sunlight? Because i rarely go out in the sun..
well while i was doing the regimen tonight (Acne.org regimen) i noticed some flaking on the area close to my eye and close to my sideburn. I decided to gently rub off the flakes (there are no active pimples in this area) and now when i rubbed it off, bam, a scar was revealed! I saw no redness or itchyness or burning feeling whatsoever at that spot, just another scar... i am tripping, no joke..
fuck the antibiotics, i am done with those for now.
one more thing iloveuk, didnt you mention earlier that your husband has similar scarring? Is he still scarring on a daily basis?
I should also mention that i changed my water filter recently (before i used just tap water, and now i wash my face with filtered water using the pur 3 stage horizontal filter).
Do you think this could have caused it (although that linear scar i got before changing filters).
Also, my scars are mostly shallow i think, but i am not sure. It is really saddening what is happening
One more thing i should mention, everytime so far when i get these scars, it always seems to happen at night when i am sleeping rather than when i am awake. I always get them during the middle of the night.
Any clues?
I don't think it's your pillow case, but switch to silk if you want to try it.
I have always been sensitive to anything touching my face, so it is just instinct to wake up if something is irritating it. I don't know if you could become the same way.
We have a reverse osmosis system so it filters everything...
With porphyria you react to all light, not just UV. I don't go out in the sun at all without something wrapped around my face now and I still get scars. I have gotten some from using LED lights which are supposed to help scarring...
