Hey Tomster,thanks for replying.
now that i am one week past first treatment, my face is back to normal ,to exactly what it was before the treatment.
I didn't see any improvement at all but no side effects.
Did you notice any improvement from your side?
Hi qantas and Sassy74,
Haven't logged in for a few days - haven't noticed much change - a couple of icepick scars look a little better to me. Like Sassy74 said - this is something that takes awhile before you notice much. Second session is 12/23. Hopefully, will see a bit more of an improvement a couple of weeks after that date.
Take care and keep updating
Tomster
Hi,
I wrote my reply as a separate thread so maybe it is more likely to get read here. I went for my first ematrix 9 days ago. The nurse did 100 pulses for $350 on a B setting. I was wondering if i should be getting 200 pulses cause she offers that to get better coverage and that tight grid pattern you talk about. I am getting full face work done cause have enlarged/scarred pores from an IPL done 2 months after being off Accutane. I am off Tane 3 years now and the doc says to do Fraxel but I am waaaaay to scared for that.
I did PRP because of its nondestructuve manner and it did nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am hoping that ematrix is nondestructive enough but strong enough to do the trick.
I am going to give ematrix a try do you think I should go up in level and have them 4 weeks apart. I was going to have them spaced 6 weeks apart just to be safe and let the colegen grow. What do you guys think is the best I dont want to risk ruining any colegen and healing I might be getting.
I want to try Intracel it is also subblative rejuvenation. It is mostly in japan and asian countries but I found I website that shows a place in Canada doing it. There is a whole thread on it on this board if you search with a link to a site in English with lots of b/A pics. Some of the pics look really impressive!!!!!
My scars look most like the asian girl at the bottom with the enlarged/scared pores on the side and bridge of her nose. If I could get results like that I would be very happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sassy and Tomster and anyone else that has ematrix done can you please comment if you think the Intracel looks good and if your results are on par or better/less than their pics and would you consider doing it cause it seems to take less times to acheive results.
Thanks for taking the time to read and answer all my questions LOL
Amy
Hey Computergirl,
Glad to know you've gotten your first eMatrix. I can't really define the exact number of pulses I've received during my treatments, because that's never been made apparent to me. I'm sure you've read that I was treated first on low B, then high B and onto mid to high C thereafter. We've only done my cheeks so I'm not exactly sure how many pulses were used. I know that each treatment tip can only be used a finite number of times, thus why it's considered "disposable". Therefore, whether your practitioner uses the same tip 10 times, 100 times or 200 times, it can't be used by anyone else after wards. I'm not trying to question how your aesthetician/Dr chooses to conduct their business, but I find it odd to charge you for additional pulses. But I guess that's just my opinion. I only pay $250 for my cheeks (it's usually about $500 for a full face) but once we've tightly pulsed my cheeks we'll go back and hit a couple of spots on the sides of my chin and my forehead simply because the treatment tip is still good. She's NEVER charged me extra as a result.
I'm not overly familiar w/ IntraCel, but I've read the forums here on the org and looked at a couple of websites. I'm not sure if the difference is that great as compared to eMatrix, but I could be dead wrong. I've been pleased w/ this treatment, and having not had others, I don't know if it would be prudent or responsible of me to recommend another treatment to someone else, having no first hand experience myself. However, if you do choose the Intracel route, I'd be very interested to hear your thoughts on comparing the two.
In the interest of time, I think you've probably already read my experiences and know that I only started at level B because I'd never had a laser treatment in the past (except for a microlaser peel) and it was my first treatment w/ Jessica, my aesthetician, and we wanted to be conservative. I've noticed the biggest changes in this long stretch between my most recent appointment (Oct. 11th) and now. I go in Monday for my next treatment.
I sincerely hope I've answered any questions you may have. Please continue to update your progress as it's so helpful to many fellow scar sufferers out here!!
Best of luck and God Bless
Thanks Sassy for yout answers. It sounded like you had more results waiting longer between your last treament do you thinkthat is true for every treatment \? should I space out my treatments 4 or 6 weeks in your opinion? For my next treatment do you think I should go up to a high B then a high c like you did? Are your improvments better or as good as the Intracel pics. Do you think I shoild go straight to the Intracel cause it seems to produce the same effect in a shorter amount of time. Would you consider doing Intercel or are you going to stick with ematrix. How many ematrix's do you think you really need to ger rid of enlarged pores. I remember you saying that some of your enlarged pores didn't responded at all to the ematrix!!!!!!!!!! That would mean that I am wasting my time and money.
How well did the ematrix help with your fine wrinkles? Do you think it is a good choice for this. And if so how many treatments did it take for you to start seeing a difference.
Tanks again for taking the time to answer all my questions!!

ComputerGirl Amy,
Don't know anything about Intracel - but I would say to do eMatrix on the highest level C. I've only had one session done and although there were slight improvements, I really think to see anything of any real note I'm going to have to do the remaining 4 sessions on the highest level. That will probably mean an extra day or so of recovery - 4 to 5 days instead of 3 - but really, the downtime effects were not bad at all and Sassy74 has said recovery is quicker and quicker the more times you have the eMatrix done. My next session is December 23. I'll let you all know more then.
Good luck,
Tomster

Results from eMatrix, or any procedure for that matter, are going to take months to see. I always had my first several treatments anywhere from 4-5 weeks apart. I must stress again, results take time to become evident. I don't have any plans on seeking out treatment w/ Intracel, mainly because it's not available here. I live in South Georgia and have no desire to travel all the way to Canada to get that treatment done. I'm not really sure if the results from Intracel are any more/less impressive than those from eMatrix. It's my understanding, from the amount of research I've done, that collagen takes up to 6 months to full develop. I've also had this information confirmed from a plastic surgeon I consulted last month. She even refused to do any procedures on me until at least 6 months post-treatment from my last procedure. I know how difficult it is to "wait". We all want an instant cure for our scarring. Unfortunately, that's just not how our bodies work. I so wish it weren't that way.
I don't really have wrinkles or fine lines. I think I've mentioned that before. Therefore, I can't really answer your question about that. As far as number of treatments required, that is really a decision that needs to be made between you and your practioner. I don't know what your skin looks like or how it's responding to treatment and don't want to overstep my bounds and give advice I shouldn't be giving. I can only tell you what I've had done to my skin, which is 6 treatments. Enlarged pores are genetic and nothing will get rid of them. Both my Mom and brother have them, and neither of them have any acne scarring. There are differences between enlarged pores and scarred pores though. I've not had improvement on enlarged pores, but have had improvement on my scarred pores, and as I've mentioned before, it took time to see results. I hope that helps.
Regarding your treatment level, I'm w/ Tomster on this one. Level C, at least. My aesthetician told me that Level C is what is required for deep wrinkles and any kind of acne scarring. You might want to discuss this with your practioner at your next visit.
I hope I've been able to answer your questions. I go in 2 more days for another IPL & eMatrix so I'll be sure to update w/ my experiences and any comments my aesthetician has regarding scar improvements.
All the best and God Bless!
Well, I'm back from my most recent eMatrix & IPL treatment. Same protocol as last time, IPL, followed by eMatrix on High Level C No numbing cream again. I guess I'm just a tough old broad. We went ahead and used up the extra pulses left on the treatment tip on my nose, sides of my chin and one near my left eyebrow.
Jessica was really impressed w/ my improvements. She just kept saying, "You really look good! I can totally see improvement!". Of course, I'm more critical, especially since I see my skin every flippin day and still can't stand it. We looked at my pictures from May and she snapped a couple before we started blasting away. She kept saying how much improvement my skin has made. She even went so far as to say, "Yes, you can still see the scars but I think they're 80% better than when we began." Now, I understand that that is her opinion. I'm not sure I agree that there is an 80% improvement. IMHO I'd say anywhere from 30-50%. Of course, I'm not at the full 6 months time frame yet. I guess I'll have to wait another couple of months to really see the final results. However, I went ahead an scheduled another treatment for late March. I've had some sunspots appear and want to blast those bad boys up w/ the IPL and I like the eMatrix and what it does to "refresh" my skin. I also have hopes that I'll continue to get improvement on my scarring.
We discussed some other patients w/ acne scarring that she is currently treating. One won't allow her pictures to be shown, but from Jessica's descriptions, she's got more severe scarring. Jessica explained it like someone took a fingernail and gauged out skin. Now, if that doesn't put my vanity into perspective, not much will. Though I don't know this young lady, my heart simply breaks for her However, I guess she's been able to get improvement too! Jessica noted that this lady has had a filling in of some of her ice pick scarring. Though I don't know this lady, I'm so very happy for her. My point in sharing this "story" is to illustrate that the eMatrix does seem to help ice pick scars, whereas other traditional fractional lasers seem not to. I've mentioned in older posts that this is the case for me as well. I just want to share the information with the acne.org community that this may be a possibility for others.
PLEASE understand that I still have visible scarring, mainly localized to my right cheek, especially an area a little bigger than a quarter w/ ice pick and a couple shallow boxscars. I did visit a plastic surgeon for a consultation last month. She recommended scapel excision w/ a single stitch on 2 ice pick scars and subcision on 2 other scars. She did say that since I'm having good luck with the eMatrix treatments to go ahead and wait the full 6 months to see the final results before I consider any surgical work. I appreciated her conservative approach and the fact that she didn't try and force lasers onto me. She said simply, "I'm a surgeon. That's the approach I prefer to take."
Well troops, that's pretty much it for now. My face is mildly red and the matrix dots are already visible. I have very minimal swelling and no real pain whatsoever. My face feels a little "tight" and more sensitive than regular, but common to how it feels after all my eMatrix treatments. The best way to describe it to someone that's never had a procedure done is like a mild sunburn.
Hope this information is helpful to all I'll be back in a few days to post my updates, but don't expect greatness!

Thanks sassy 74 - too bad we can't project ourselves a year or a year-and-a-half into the future and really see how much improvement eMatrix is going to give us. When I did Smoothbeam I did get 40-60% improvement in 4-5 months on many scars. But again, this is the human body being damaged and in essence "rehealing" - you don't know how it will repair itself. Some scars "heal over"
more or better than others - hence different degrees of repair - from the same procedure and time frame. Also, time will affect the repaired scars appearance - just as skin that isn't scared may age, droop and wrinkle, so will "repaired" scared skin do the same - making the scars perhaps look worse than they did when first "repaired."
Next treatment is 12/23 - will log in after the holidays with a report.
Best wishes
Thank you everyone for posting your ematrix experiences. I had my first ematrix done 3 weeks ago. I actually had posted on another thread when I did it. I copied/pasted my previous posts below...hope it helps.
My 2nd ematrix is on 1/14. I was very hopeful after my first treatment but now I'm not sure how I feel. It's partly because I've had to put forth a lot of effort to not tan (I live in Florida & love the beach!) I think since I'm more pale and don't have a tan that would usually help to camouflage my scars. But, on the flipside, I am now using sunscreen daily and I know that in the long run I am giving my skin the "love" it deserves
Here's are my previous posts:
Sassy,
Thank you SO much for posting your experiences. It's really helped me understand what to expect. I'm eager to hear more about your results now that we're in December. I just had my first session of eMatrix yesterday. I'm a 36 year old Cuban/American woman with light/medium tan skin. I have mild/moderate acne scars, a lot of sun damage (live in South Florida...many years of tanning!), some sagging skin around my chin/neck, and some light wrinkles around my eyes (lots of smiling in my lifetime!).
Knowing that the procedure not only improves acne scarring, but also reverses sun damage, kills basal (pre cancerous) cells, improves skin texture/wrinkles.... SOLD ME! I also saw it on The Doctors, The View, and the Rachel Ray Show.
The procedure in itself took about 40 minutes and I had my whole face & neck done. My face was already cleaned but prepared with acetone. It felt like little pin pricks all over my face... bearable, but not fun. She used a level C (a bit aggressive but decided upon because of the extent of my skin damage). Immediately after, I didn't look too swollen but you could tell that something was up. Last night, maybe because of the swelling, I actually thought that my scars looked better.
Today was day 2, and it was a ROUGH one. I woke up VERY swollen and the grid marks were pretty apparent. I washed my face (Cetaphil) for the first time in 12 hours (wasn't allowed until then), put Aveeno baby sunscreen 55 spf, and moisturized with Cetaphil lotion. My face (especially my around my eyes) was very irritated and tender. I was unsuccessful in covering up with mineral foundation and opted to just using my Bare Minerals Mineral Veil (which helped calm my skin). Unfortunately, I had to attend a field trip to the Everglades with my students today and felt miserable all day. On the bright side, (haha...no pun intended), it was a VERY CLOUDY and COLD day which meant that the sun wouldn't be beating down on my face. I was swollen and uncomfortable all day long. I've heard that many who have had this treatment done are comfortable the 2nd day...not me. The scabs are definitely up on the surface and the grid marks are REALLY there! Two things I have done that has been helpful today is take Tylenol (not allowed to take anything else) and I've been keeping my Cetaphil lotion in the refrigerator. Applying cool lotion helps "calm" down my skin. I'm also taking Sea Buckthorn Oil caplets (omegas) that are good for the skin (I'm a big fan of SBO). I think after the initial few days, I'm also going to continue using the topical Sea Buckthorn as I did prior to the treatment.
I decided to take tomorrow (Day 3) off from work because I'm nervous about what to expect. I'll keep you posted. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
Thank you again to Sassy for being so thorough!
Ematrix Day 3 update... swelling is gone. I do have pin-like scabs all over my face and neck. I took pictures again today and I can say that I can start seeing a positive difference in my skin. My troublesome scars on my left cheek to look smoother. I'm not sure if it's because of some mild swelling that may still be there, but none the less... they do look smoother. Some of the scabs on my right cheek have fallen off. I'm eager to see what tomorrow brings. I did opt out of going to my work holiday party tonight. Not feeling quite confident to face the world tonight.
I have continued to moisturize with Cetaphil lotion however, I have put a few drops of Sea Buckthorn oil in the lotion. Hoping it will help accelerate the healing.
Will update more tomorrow...
Day 4 - swelling is completely gone. My skin feels rough and I do still have scabs on my forehead, neck, and the sides of my face. Cheeks look clear of scabs but do feel rough. Tried to wear mineral foundation but due to the roughness of my skin, looks very uneven Not much else to report... still keeping my fingers crossed that over time my skin texture will improve. I am taking pictures everyday to compare (maybe a little obsessive...but I thought it would not only help me but also my dermatologist).
Have a great night!
This was an answer to an eMatrix question that was posted on the Light/Laser forum about doing photofacials in conjunction w/ eMatrix and it's effectiveness.
I swear I had responded to this! I guess it never posted! Oh well, to answer your questions
1.) Yes, photofacial and eMatrix can be done together. My last 3 treatments have included and IPL followed by the eMatrix.
2.) Yes, photofacial (IPL) does help get rid of sunspots/freckles. Some of my spots have disappeared, some have faded, but are still visible. If you're having the eMatrix done for scarring, then the levels used are penetrating deeper into the dermis and not really having an effect on the epidermis which is where pigmentation issues usually lie. They have a newer treatment tip designed specifically for pigmentation that has more grid dots on it, but doesn't penetrate the skin as deep as to cause collagen remodeling. I think if you're going to do eMatrix w/ a hope of working on pigment issues, an IPL followed by the traditional eMatrix is the way to go.
Some of my red/purplish spots have not responded as well to the IPL, but simply have faded w/ time and the use of retin a cream (I use the generic trentinonin 0.025% cream)
Hope this helps!
Computer Girl,
I am getting my second ematrix this Thursday 4 and 1/2 weeks out from my first 1. I swear I see some results because I believe a have scared pores mostly not enlarged pores. Cany decise to go with a High B or a Low C. My 1st one was on a mid B.
Do you think smokining effects the healing of the skin and the treatment of ematrix. Not that I smoke on a regular basis but because of recent streeeeeeess I have been. I hear it effects PRP healing which did nothing for me and I didnt smoke then.
Do you think I should put off the ematrix because of the smoking binge ofr do you think it is better to get it done closer togeter and closr to when I had the PRP casue by some miricle the plasma rich plattlets may help the healing?
Again thanks for listening and all your help.
Computer Girl (Amy)
Computer girl,
Glad to hear that you're seeing some results
I personally don't smoke and never have, so I can't w/ true authority speak to it's ability to hinder healing, however, from everything I've ever read, it does. It constricts blood flow to the skin which is key to proper healing. I think if you go ahead w/ your next treatment and do your very best to cut back as much as possible, you'll probably be fine. Be sure to drink plenty of water and keep your skin hydrated. I believe smoking also dehydrates the skin and that can interfere w/ healing. You want to get the most out of theses treatments!
Are you pleased w/ your treatments so far?
All the best!
Thanks for answering. Yeah the smoking thing was just a holiday stress binge so I am hoping I will be ok!!
Yes I am happy withmy results so far!! And will keep everyone updated on my progress. I think a decided to go with a low C this time. Lets se what the nurse sas sinc my first was on a mid B. Maybe I will get the highest B. SSo undecided want the most results but the least risks of complacations, everybody here probably knows hows that feels like LOL

Hi,
Hope everyone is doing well! In my last post I said that I wasn't sure about the results after my first ematrix. Well, I take it back!! Exactly one month post I woke up in the morning and looked in the mirror... I can see a difference. Several of my scars look smoother and the overall texture of my skin has improved. I'm feeling a bit less self-conscious about my face I originally had my 2nd ematrix scheduled for this past Wednesday, but I rescheduled it for Friday the 14th because I need the weekend to recup from the redness. They performed a high C on me and plan on continuing to do so at my 2nd appointment.
I do have PIH and I have been dabbing lemon on those spots to help lighten. I think it's working... it's either that, or maybe it's the ematrix that is also helping with that. Not sure...
Best wishes to all and thank you for reading!
Hi again,
Hope everyone is doing well!! I had my 2nd ematrix treatment today (5 weeks post #1). Before today's treatment, they took follow up photographs. Photographs were also taken prior to my first treatment to establish a baseline. What I really liked about today's photos is that it was very controlled. They have a photo room and the camera & the program they is set up so that your new photo is "lined up" with the baseline photo. I had been worried about the accuracy/lighting/etc about my follow up pictures but after today was really impressed for the effort they put forth to maintain consistency. I asked for copies of the pictures.
I then went in for my treatment. My first treatment was done on a mid/high C. She explained to me that today's session was going to be at the highest C. I like that she's being aggressive with my treatments. I put my headphones on and she went to town! She again treated my entire face and repeated the treatment on a few of my more troublesome spots. MY FACE IS ON FIRE... but I don't mind
After my treatment, she put some sunscreen on, told me to sit in front of the fan until I felt a little better, and that she was going to print the pictures for me. I hung out for a few minutes and then decided to make my way out to find her. As I approached her I overheard her talking to the Doctor and owner of the office... they were FLOORED with my results over the last 5 weeks. They couldn't believe that actual sections on my face that were more scarred pre first treatment had actually disappeared. I finally piped into the conversation to let them know I was standing there and they were eager to share the photos with me. I knew that I could see a difference in the mirror in certain areas but it wasn't until they showed the pictures to me that I thought.... wow!! I am by no means perfect but my problem areas are definitely improving. And as I mentioned before, a couple of areas have healed so much that they're virtually not there.
I don't mind sharing my pictures with you but I have to wait until Tuesday so that I can scan them in at work. I'll keep you posted! Thank you for listening.
Thank you, too!
post 2nd ematrix ~ day 2: VERY VERY red and swollen today. Didn't even attempt to wash my face first thing (even though I was told I could). A lot more irritated then the last time I know it'll be worth it based on the healing I had between #1 and 2. Finally worked up the courage to wash my face 3 hours after waking up... and OOOOOooohhhh OUCH! I'm using Cetaphil and THAT was too much. Will put sunscreen shortly... thankfully I have great neighbors who are helping walk my dogs this afternoon so I don't have to walk outside barefaced!!
That's about all I have to report... have a beautiful weekend all!
Niria
Great to hear about your progress!! I do remember my skin being more sensitive to the touch after we went from a B level to a C. If your skin responds anything like mine did, you won't see as much swelling and pain w/ each subsequent treatment. Which of your scars responded the best?
Best of continued luck to you and keep us posted! I don't go in for another touch-up until March. I will say, my scars continue to respond each week. In particular, 2 icepick scars on my upper cheeks have seemed to "fill in" a bit, even from last week! all this from my apt on Dec. 20th. These treatments do take time, but results can be seen
Hi again,
Thank you so much for reading and responding
Soooo.... I had to do a little research on google images because I wasn't sure what the names of my types of scars are. Comparing the pictures to my face I can say that on the main part of both of my cheeks and jawline it looks like I have boxcar scars. There's a small section between my right cheek and chin (just below my mouth) that look like rolling scars. It's the boxcar scars that have responded beautifully and have filled in quite a bit. I also have pih that I had been dabbing lemon on everyday that have definitely faded a couple of shades. I also think that making it a point to use sunscreen everyday have helped with PIH.
I do have to say that even right after my first ematrix I put a couple of drops sea buckthorn oil in my cetaphil lotion to help with healing. I also take sea buckthorn orally because it's filled with omegas 3, 6, 7, and 9 which help provide the skin with vital nutrients. It may just be all in my head... but I swear this stuff helps!
Thank you again!
Hey guyes
I'm so glaaaad that u r getting good results

to answer your questions;
1.) Yes, it does work on boxcar scars, as it seems to work on ice pick and small rolling as well.
2.) I don't know about the peels. That is a question best addressed during your consultation with your provider. I would assume it shouldn't be a problem if you haven't had the peel recently. I would definitely wait several weeks, post peel, before attempting an eMatrix treatment. You need to give your skin time to heal completely before doing another invasion treatment on it.
3.) I never get eMatrix on my entire face. In fact, my treatments are only done to my cheek area, which is the only place I really have scarring. We've used up extra pulses before on the sides of my chin and between my eyebrows, just because we could. In fact, I pay 50% less than the standard treatment price at my Dr.'s office because I only have my cheeks done.
Best of luck and keep us posted if you decide to get this done. This is such a relatively new treatment protocol that desperately needs patient reviews for others to read and become informed from.
God Bless!
