Hidy Ho everyone!

Back to give another update on my eMatrix RF Sublative Rejuvenation treatments. I was able to get my Sept. 7th appt. bumped up to last Monday (August 30th) so that's why I'm back early.

This was my 4th treatment (and free one, I might add :) )

Same pre-procedural prep as my prior treatments, but no Clarisonic brush again this time. Treatment level was C, High Impact at 62mj. Both cheeks were covered and she even spot treated 3 areas that each had a small scar. One on each side of my chin and another close to my eyebrow. Those three scars are so minor that she didn't really see what I was talking about. I guess they're saucer/rolling scars.

I was able to see my photographs from my 1st session, pre-procedure. It was helpful to see the photographs because I'm better able to gauge my improvements.

My initial redness was pretty intense this time, but quickly disappated within 20 minutes or so. Jessica and I laughed that I should slap on some red lipstick & blue eyeshadow and try and bring the whole "extreme 80's makeup look" back :)!!

I again ventured out to Target (which appears to be a post-eMatrix ritual for me now...but honestly, we don't have a big one close to where I live and since I drive 2 hours to get to my appointments, I need to make the most use of my time). I share that information to let you know that I don't look horrifiying and am willing to brave being in public, especially since it's out of town and no one knows me. Heck, I even threw in a jaunt to Hobby Lobby.

I was more swollen by the first evening, but the next morning the swelling had decreased by 75% and the redness was the least I've ever had. Shocking.

I'm on day 6 now and 70-80% of my scabs have flaked off. I have noticed that several are more firmly in place this time versus other treatments. I used my Clarisonic brush to cleanse this morning, but my skin still looks a tad flaky and dry. The redness looks more like a faint blush on my cheeks. I'm able to apply my mineral powder and blush and you'd never know I'd had "work" done!

My assessment of the sucess of this treatment would have to be a positive one. Of course, not all my scars have responding the exact same, but that's to be expected. 2 of my saucer scars are aprox. 80% improved. I kid you not. However, I must note, they were NOT deep to begin with. I think my overall scarring is best described as mild. Had the scarring not all been clustered on my right cheek, I may have been able to tolerate it better.

My ice pick scarring continues to improve. Is it still there? Heck yeah, but just not a severe. Many of the scars have taken on a flatter appearance. As noted in earlier posts, the deepest icepick did become wider, albeit shallower.

I'm going in for a 5th procedure on Sept. 20th. This time we're going to do an IPL for sundamage (my nose, upper cheeks and forehead are positively freckled from years of not being diligent w/ sunscreen) followed by a full face eMatrix. I have some forehead and nasolabial fold wrinkles that I would like to address, in addition to blasting these pesky scars yet again.

Please feel free to ask questions, should you have any. I'm so thankful for information found here on the forums and want to do my part to give back.

God Bless to All!

Thank you Sassy 74!

Just got done reading this complete thread. I'm very interested in eMatrix - my doctor who injects Radiesse (sp?) has been literally begging me to have Fraxel Repair done, but I've been holding off because I think eMatrix might be better. On these boards I've read reports that eMatrix is less harsh and gets better results and I'm reading yours and hopefully find more reports about the effectiveness of eMatrix. Keep up the reports and thank you!

Oh, thank you :) Some on these boards have not had success w/ the eMatrix, but the same can be said for other treatments, including Re:Pair. I chose this treatment specifically due to it's minimal downtime. I'd had a microlaser peel back in March and wouldn't let anyone see me for 4-5 days, and those aren't even harsh. I will note, however, that I appeared to have an allergic reaction to the aquaphor that I used after the peel. I also broke out in some pimples a month later that I'm pretty sure I can trace back to the laser peel.

The eMatrix only ablates approx. 5% of the surface of the skin, also, there is no intense "heat" transfered into the dermal layer of the skin. This seems to cause alot of the side effects from traditional lasers. Also, fractional lasers created a straight column of ablation through the epidermis and into the dermis. The eMatrix creates a "Pyramid" or "cone" effect, by that I mean that the RF energy spans out into unablated dermal tissues. Recently, Syneron released the e2 treatment tip that has 122 grid points (as apposed to the 64 grid pattern that is done for the sublative rejuvenation) . This is supposed to help treat pigment issues. My office hasn't mentioned that they have it, but I also just found out about it yesterday while I was doing some additional research. Holy cow, do I sound like a Syneron rep or what?!! Actually, I've done a poop-load of research on this procedure. I wish I were a rep! Maybe all my treatments would be free :)

It's also important to note that this is not a one & done doohickey, as evidenced by my 4 treatments, thus far. There has been improvements, but like with all similar scar treatments, they take time to see. As a matter of fact, my scars look less deep today than they did this weekend :) Well, some of my scars, not all.

What type of scarring do you have, Tomster? Is there an office close by that can do your treatments if you choose to go the eMatrix route? I'll be happy to help with any additional information or just to provide support should you need it. It's always a comfort to not be alone in this treatment protocol.

Sorry I haven't gotten back sooner - work is crazy and then I did go see a doctor in West Hollywood about eMatrix. Actually, I'm going to talk to him today - I talked with his nurse who'[s had both Repair and eMatrix done. The eMatrix - done on the highest level 3 - was not as harsh or damaging as Repair - but I'm wondering if it did as much good as the Repair. The nurse did it for wrinkles/aging - not acne scars - so it really did yield as much information as I was wanting. She said the doctor might be able to provide more info - but the doctor does not do Repair - just eMatrix. But I'll find out more today. Price for 3 eMatrix treatments - $2,100. Seems pretty good.

Just not sure how much better scars will look. I have some rolling scars which I have injected with Radiesse every year. The rest are pits that have softened over the years thanks to TCA and retin A. Will eMatrix help the pits? That's the big question. Thanks sassy74 - you have A LOT of knowledge on eMatrix - keep us posted!

Hey Tomster, glad you came back to post. Sounds like you're going to get the info you need, however, I'm sure you already know this, don't let the Dr. talk you into something you're not 100% on board with. Because I've never done any other type of laser, I can't really comment on those. I can say that I continue to see improvement in my scars. I've only been using Retin A since mid-May, so I haven't really seen the difference that it makes. I've never had a TCA peel, but I'm looking forward to having one in the future. My "icepick" scars have really filled out. Crazy as it sounds, my oldest and deepest ice pick is the one that has filled up the most. I almost can't believe it myself. I don't have scars all over, but localized in a "quarter-sized" spot on my right lower cheek. I have a few scarred pores that haven't really seemed to respond. I think it's important to point that out. Those I may treat with 100% TCA CROSS later this winter. I have a couple other scattered scars, but none that are next to each other. That's why it bugs me so stinkn' much. The "CLUSTER FROM HELL" !! is better and more shallow. I know it's going to take another several months to flesh out the full results of the treatments.

I go next Monday morning for my 5th treatment. I'm doing a full face (as opposed to just the cheeks) and an IPL treatment as well. I'll be sure to come back and post after that treatment.

I hope this "scar" info helps. Let me know how your appointment went.

God Bless!!

Hi sassy74,

The appointment went well, but I didn't get to see the doctor - just his office manager.

The office manager did say they use to say 3 treatments, but now they say 5.

Total cost: $3,400.

From the research I've done online, eMatrix seems to be the way to go.

Now they promise only 3 days of downtime, but I'm not so sure - but that's probably about the only amount of time I'm going to get. Actually, I'm figuring on 4 days - although they swear I won't need it(!).

Just need to figure out when to get the first one started.

Keep us posted with your progress and thanks!

Hey Tomster, I had already typed up a super long reply and then I hit some wacky key on the Mac and lost it all :( Durn it.

Anyhoo, have you decided to go ahead then? When do you think you'll go for your first appointment. I'm really hoping this is a success for you. I know that I've been pleased, thus far. I have to agree with the office manager, more than 3 treatments are probably best for acne scars.

I had my 5th eMatrix this morning. We started of with a full face IPL to address sun damage and post-acne marks. I had thought I was going to have a full face eMatrix as well, but we ended up doing just my cheeks again. Jessica (the world's BEST, most caring and knowledgeable esthetician!) asked if I thought I could handle doing the eMatrix without the numbing cream this time. I had read on forums, such as RealSelf, of people needing Valium and about passing out from the pain of the procedure without numbing cream. Needless to say, I was skeptical, but I said, "Let's try a couple of pulses and see if I can take it." I must have a high pain threshold or I'm a tough ol' bird, but I was able to tolerate the treatment without the cream. I was treated on High Impact (Level C) at the maximum settings. ( I believe it was 62mj) . In all honesty, the IPL was more uncomfortable, not due to physical pain, but the flashing laser was visible even with my eyes shut and covered in laser eye shields. That is some seriously bright light! That was by far the most painful part because my eyes were really hurting. Odd, I know.

The whole process took less than 30 minutes for both procedures. Before we began, Jessica showed me a side by side photographic comparison of my progress. The before was taken prior to my 1st treatment in late June and the next photo was taken before my 4th treatment in late August (so essentially after 3 completed treatments). You can really see a difference. I have the dreaded and impossible to treat "ice pick" scars. Every other treatment, save for TCA CROSS, is said to do nill for ice pick scars. This has not been the case for me. Several of my scars have softened and raised. They are not nearly as deep. Obviously I've had more treatments since the photos and I've continued to have improvement.

I asked about the E2 treatment tip (it has 122 grid points vs. 64) Jessica said they did indeed have it at the office, but that it's not effective for the treatment of deep wrinkles and scars. She said it wouldn't do a thing for me. I wanted to make sure I shared that information since I mentioned it in an older post.

I also asked about doing a TCA peel once I've topped out on the results of the eMatrix. Jessica said that chemical peels aren't really helpful for pitted/indented scarring, but more suited for discoloration and active acne. She said if they were helpful, she would have started me on those since they are cheaper. We did talk about doing a PCA peel for tone and texture. It's a combo of salicylic acid, TCA and lactic acids. We'll see.

As far as downtime goes, I'm inclined to agree with the office manager that you won't require as much as you anticipate. I had a 10micron depth microlaser peel and was down for 4-5 days, not to mention that my skin burned, was tight and covered in that nasty Aquaphor the entire time. That is not the case w/ the eMatrix. My skin doesn't burn or feel tight for more than 10-15minutes or so. I'm able to use a heavy moisturizer (PCA Skin SilkCoat Balm) for the first several days and then switch to a regular moisturizer (PCA Skin ReBalance) after about day 3. My skin doesn't burn, feel tight, ect. Though I don't have direct experience with deeper CO2 or Erubium Fractional lasers, I have read the experiences of others here on the boards. My healing is nill compared to others. Most people don't realize I've had anything done. With each subsequent treatment, my skin has bounced back quicker each time. In fact, I have VERY little redness right now (13 hours post) and such minimal swelling, you wouldn't be able to tell. You'd just think I had eaten too much salt and was retaining water!

I'm also inclined to agree that more than 3 treatments seems necessary to address acne scarring. I'm not sure if the fractional lasers fall into this same category, but maybe someone else who's had lasers can better address the need/no need for multiple laser treatments. I specifically chose the eMatrix for it's minimal downtown. I knew I was going to need several treatments, but since they can be performed anywhere from 3-6 weeks apart I knew I would continue to see improvements and not have to wait 6 months or more between procedures.

Because I think it's important and informative to mention pricing, I should note that my IPL treatment was done for $125 (normally $175) and my eMatrix was (again) done at no charge :) They definitely have a customer for life in me. I've been treated with so much respect and care, which unfortunately doesn't seem to be the norm for many here on the boards. I have nothing but praise for Jessica and the entire office where I get my treatments done. I thank the Good Lord for leading me to them :) I've got another appointment scheduled for Oct. 12. I pretty much think I've become an eMatrix addict. I told them I would do commercials for them and shout their praises from the rooftops. Is my scarring 100% gone? No. Is it remarkable improved? Yes :) I was offered my pictures, but I wasn't ready to post it on the internet to live on for infinity. Maybe one day.

Tomster, I pray all the best for you and can't wait to hear how your treatments go. Please keep me posted on your progress.

God Bless!

I've been following this thread and have decided to go ahead with Ematrix. Special thanks to Sassy for her detailed experiences.

I've got some significant acne scarring, especially on my cheeks. This will be my first attempt at improvement. My first treatment will occur tomorrow in the Phoenix, AZ area. I'll be getting 5 treatments for a cost of $2,500.

I'm not going to detail my experiences, but I intend to post anything of note.

Thanks again, for those who have shared.

Okay troops. I haven't been back to update in a while and thought I should.

I had my 6th ematrix done on Monday. (October 11th) It was done the same as my 5th treatment. We did an IPL first and the eMatrix second. I toughed it out w/out numbing cream again.

The IPL did a fantastic job of clearing up my sun damage/freckles and it helped slightly with some PIH. Jessica, my aesthetician, did note that I may have a decrease in acne flares due to the IPL killing bacteria. I found that to be true for the most part. However, a beastie showed up on my chin the Wednesday before treatment. We went ahead and zapped it w/ the IPL laser and with the eMatrix. It's a small little nodule and I'm doing my upmost best to not mess with it. It has gone done a touch since Monday's treatment.

We went very aggressive in terms of number of pulses and coverage. She double stacked a couple of the pulses across my checks and we zapped my nasolabial folds, my brow between my eyes, my upper lip (which I have to admit hurt the worst, considering I wasn't numb) and the sides of my chin were I have some super-duper mild scarring.

I'm not going to go back for another treatment until the end of December so we wanted to go "Balls to the Wall"!

I'm healing just dandy and my swelling and redness are minimal, much like treatment 5. My scarring continues to improve, but like most people here, it's not 100% gone, which makes me sad. :(

Oh well, such is life. I'll do my best to update in a couple months to report on my continued progress.

God bless y'all :) and let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Sassy74!

Your detailed review motivated me to go for a consultation on ematrix. I will be receiving 4 treatments for acne scarring on my cheeks. The doctor informed me that I will see a 70% improvement in the scars. I would be extremely happy with this result.

I know you don't want to post your pics, but I was wondering if you could tell us what % improvement you have seen?? It would really help me to assess whether my doctor is giving me accurate info (I was a little hesitant b/c she was not able to show me many of her own before and after pics of her own patients).

Asian32,

So glad my posts have been able to help inform the community. I was personally frustrated w/ the lack of real life experience.

I will say, I was able to see actual patient results that my aesthetician had personally worked on. I appreciate that.

I was not promised a specific percentage of improvement. I don't feel it's wise to promise big percentage results, as that can set up a scenario for disappointment. I was told to expect anything in a range from 30-70%. Each person's situation and skin is different and age and lifestyle can affect healing.

I would "guesstimate" that thus far, I've had around 30-40% improvement. None of my scars have completely disappeared, but as you may have read in my other posts, my deepest and oldest 2 scars have raised up considerably. I'm a fan of this procedure, in that it seems to work well for my skin and the downtime and after affects are minimal compared to traditional fractional lasers.

I still have several months to see the promised "continual improvement". I guess the jury is still out on that.

Best of luck with your procedures! If you don't mind, I'd love to be able to keep up with your progress and see how you like the eMatrix!

God Bless!!

Best of luck to you! I don't have another treatment until Dec. 20th. I'll be all flaked out for Christmas! It will be interesting to see how the whole "collagen remodeling" mess has progressed from now until then.

Don't forget about us and be sure to come back and post. I'm feeling like the Lone Ranger here :)

Hi,

I am going for a consultation for ematrix 1 week from today. I have enlarged/scared pores from an IPL that a doctor did when I was only off Accutane for 2 months!!!!!!!!!!!! My scars are all over my face every pore is a scar it is terrible. I had PRP for them and that did nothing!!!! I am hoping that this will help because I am too afraid to do any kind of Fraxel!!!! With being on tane in the past probably 3 years ago by now I am still afraid how my skin will react and if it will heal right. I put copper peptides on the other day ans a scar appeared on my cheek from nowhere. It eventually went back into the skin but I have to be very careful that is why I choose PRP in the first place because it is noninvasive.

I am hoping that ematrix will be non invasisve enough to not do more damage and strong enough to help my scars. I hope that is not to much to ask for!!!

I will post here and keep everyone posted of my progress if the doctor says I am a good canidate for the treatment.

Someone posted that their enlarged pores didn't seem to respond at all which scares me. My scars aren't deep but they are all over. I am afraid they are too small for the procedure to help that it just might work on larger deeper scars. We shall see!! Wish me luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best of luck to you! I'm approx 3 1/2 weeks past my most recent treatment and I'm still noticing some improvement. As I've stressed before, my scars are still visible and not one has disappeared, however, many of shallower. I do have mainly ice pick scarring and the biggest icepicks have responded the best.

I'm excited for you! I've personally never taken Accutane, so I'll be interested to know how your skin reacts. I think that will be helpful for so many here on the site. My scarring is mostly a result of picking at small nodules. :( Live and learn I guess.

I'm excited for you! I've personally never taken Accutane, so I'll be interested to know how your skin reacts. I think that will be helpful for so many here on the site. My scarring is mostly a result of picking at small nodules. :( Live and learn I guess.

Hey Sassy74 - finally got the ematrix done this past Wednesday. It was interesting - they did three passes: the first on the low level, the second on the middle level and the third on the highest level. They used numbing cream so there really wasn't any pain. However, during the procedure and afterwards for at least 30 minutes afterward, you could really smell the burning skin and feel the heat coming off the skin.

Also interesting: they didn't use any ice or cream immediately afterward and said don't put on anything for the next 4 hours as letting the heat come off was part of the "healing" process that improves the scarring.

There is a slight improvement of the scars and I think with repeated visits - I have four more - that there will be a noticeable improvement of the scars.

As far as downtime - not really too bad. I went out that night and nobody really commented on the slightly red face. By the end of the third day it really wasn't noticeable at all. I'd recommend this treatment to anyone. Like you, I don't think it's going to eliminate the scars but it will improve their appearance I would say 30 to 60/70 percent. Pretty good for such a non-invasive treatment.

Thanks for your post - keep updating on any improvement you're seeing.

All the best,

Tomster

Thanks for coming back to post! They usually only put sunscreen on my skin after my treatments. Gotta protect that fragile skin. I don't put anything else on my skin for the remainder of the day, and usually don't wash my face that night, however, I do apply some of the balm I'm supposed to use for 2-3 days following treatment. My skin is still sensitive at that point and usually needs a little extra TLC. I wash my face w/ mild cleanser in the morning and then reapply the balm that they give me to use. (PCA Skincare Silkcoat Balm)

If you've ever had any kind of laser treatment, the eMatrix comes off feeling like a trip to the day spa! I've only ever had a microlaser peel and I felt like my skin was being melted off w/ a blowtorch. The pain/burning lasted for HOURS as opposed to 30 minutes or so. The healing is a night and day difference between the eMatrix and lasers.

I continue to notice improvement as time goes by. I'm now 8 weeks past my treatment, and no joke, I swear on Friday after Thanksgiving I noticed my scars getting even smaller. Crazy! Must have been the turkey we ate for Thanksgiving supper!! I gotta say, now that my deepest scars have shallowed, I'm becoming obsessed w/ smaller scars that I've never really noticed before. I guess that's bound to happen.

Continued success for you Tomster and kindly keep everyone updated on your progress. It's nice to have someone to relate with!

Hi Sassy 74 - good to hear that you believe you may still be seeing some improvement! It's true about noticing the smaller scars. As the big ones have become less noticeable, you start seeing more of the little ones more. Sort of makes you wonder if we'll ever be happy/satisfied with any imperfection - or if we'll keep looking for something that will help improve our scaring. Oh well -

I'm happy at the moment with ematrix that's for sure.

Take care and keep posting,

Tomster

I just had my first EMatrix treatment 2 days ago.

i am 39 and i have many scars on both cheeks, ice peaks , rolling etccccc

so i wanted to treat acne scars as well as getting some skin tightening and rejuvenation since i am getting older ;)

i was treated all face on level A ( not painful at all) and then level C on the cheeks.

there really wasn't any pain , only a burning sensation and a smell of burning skin.

Also immediately afterward they numbed my face with a cream u use for burned skin and told me to wash my face 2hrs later and apply cicaplast which i did ( that was much different from what i've read on this forum )

As far as downtime - not really too bad. I stayed home that night and 2 hrs after the treatment the reddness disppeared . By the end of the third day it really wasn't noticeable at all.

I am worried by the low level used for my treatment , i donno if it was supposed to be higher , but my surgeon suggested to do it slowly but surely in order to avoid any complications.

I have been reading this forum a lot lately to get the max. informations on ematrix reviews and i noticed that trying hard and chanelwhy didn't post anything after their 2cd treatment's reviews.

Can anyone ( other than Sassy , who's being really helpfull :)) update us on their reviews and level treatment ?

When I had it done last week, they did a pass at level A, then B, then C. My healing process was very similar to yours - a little red the day after, second day not too noticeable, third day practically healed. I'd like to see a little more dramatic results, so I think I'll ask them to do it on the highest level since it seems my skin can take it. I'll let you know what they say - appointment is for 12/23

Hey Tomster,

thanks for replying.

now that i am one week past first treatment, my face is back to normal ,to exactly what it was before the treatment.

I didn't see any improvement at all but no side effects.

Did you notice any improvement from your side?

Hey qantas,

I know your question was directed to Tomster, but I wanted to go ahead and respond as well. I've never really noticed improvement 1 week post. The improvements I've seen are usually within a couple of weeks. Of course, the more treatments you have, the more improvement you'll see. eMatrix is by no means the panacea we wish it were. I really started to notice changes after about my 3rd treatment. I continue to have a "filling in" effect all these months later (1st treatment in mid-June, most recent, Oct. 11)

I don't want you to feel discouraged, as I've been there before. At first I thought I had wasted a colossal amount of time, energy & hope, but there have been improvements in the long run. My aesthetician has documented my progress w/ photos, and if it hadn't been for seeing those, I may have given up several months back. When we inspect our skin daily, we tend not to see the gradual changes that are indeed taking place. It's similar to having growing children. You never notice a growth spurt until you're around their grandparents or something and everyone comments, "Wow! Look how much they've grown since last time!"

Just wanted to offer an encouraging word for you. I still only see my scars when I look in the mirror and have a hard time seeing the improvements that have been made, but I need to remember that it used to be worse.

Best of continued luck to you,

God Bless, Sassy

Yes, just turned 36 a couple of weeks ago. I don't really notice any skin tightening, but then again, I may have had some. I don't really have any wrinkles YET, but I do have one on the left side of my face that is my "smile line" or nasolabial fold (if you want to get technical). Crazy thing, no one on my family has acne scarring (l'm the only "lucky" one) and they all have nice skin. My grandma is in her late 80's and has hardly any wrinkles! Oh that I should have been so blessed.

I'll ask my aesthetician her opinion when I see her in a few weeks. I'm so obsessed w/ my acne scars, I rather ignore all the other problems with my skin.

Hope your spirits are up today and you're feeling good about your treatment. When is your next one scheduled?
