To those who have dermabrasion already,

Do you know if you know if it's normal to have some spot thats redder than the other?

Hi all,

I'm on my 20th day post-op.. my face still looks sunburnt but makeup covers it up pretty well.. I've been going out to eat and going to bars without thinking twice about my skin biggrin.gif As you can see in the 19 days post-op pics, there's still pinkness and there's some spots that's redder than others.. I think that's just where I had a lot of scars and Dr. Y went deeper there.. it's much smoother than before I had dermabrasion, definitely.. I just think the pinkness takes away from my total improvement.. when I look in the mirrors with bad lighting, I don't see any depressed scars.. it's so smooth and even.. I'm still very happy that I had this done.... Sorry about the bottom "Makeup" pic being in bad lighting but just compare my face to my neck, it's pretty similar... My face just looks like it has blush on when I put on makeup.. so it works out well smile.gif

I'm planning on having a 2nd full-face done in March(spring break).. I still have some scars, this time I'm going to ask him about the punch-float technique(I didn't know about it before).. hmm, I don't think I'm experiencing any hyperpigmentation(knock on wood).. Dr. Y did say that since I have Asian skin, the pinkness would take longer than a lighter skinned person would to fade..

Hey Poe, Looking great there. You said you still have some scars? Before your dermabrasion, were the scars that's still there boxcar or ice pick scars? Were they pretty deep? How deep are they now? Thanks.

Hiya Nic,

Yes, I still have a couple boxcars and a couple icepicks(besides nose).. Hmm, I'm not sure how to classify the depths of those scars.. honestly.. the boxcars looks more even now but it's like a flat scar now.. I dunno, hard to explain.. and the icepicks did not improve much... luckily, I didn't have plenty of icepicks besides on my nose though.. but I'm going to make sure he punch floats ANY scar he can before my 2nd derm.. ’? have some pretty bad scarring on my nose and I think the dermabrasion helped even it out some but it's still the worst part of my face and I hate it.. urgh... Before the derm, my nose had icepicks and bumps, bumps are smoother now but there's still icepicks.. I wonder if he can punchfloat those..? Hmm, I'll have to ask him when I send in my pics.. smile.gif Hope that helps

Poe, Yeah, I'm sure he can punch float the nose scars, or at the least punch graft them. I've seen photos of skin cancer victims with the skin on their nose turned upside down, and back to normal.

Poe your scar didn't look that bad before. Who makes the decision about the punch float???? I don't have a lot of money but want this done right the first time and I will do as many punch floats to get optimum results. I don't want to spend $4500 + $4500 + hotel= more than $10,000. Thats 2 years of tuition. Were your scars deep or wide????

Hiya Nic,

Yeah, that would be awesome if he can punchfloat my nose scars smile.gif

Powerpooch,

The before pics of my scars doesn't look as bad as they really were.. it's funny cuz the after pics looks worse than it really is.. hehe.. I think it's cuz it doesn't really show all the depressions.. I think if you can see it in 3-D rather than 2-D, you'll see what I mean... in bad lighting before I had the dermabrasion, it looked disgusting! Now, it's smooth in bad lighting... Dermabrasion totally helped with my rolling scars..

I think Dr. Y would tell you if it's okay to punchfloat some scars or not but in the end, it's your call... I know what you mean about the money.. If I know for certain that Dr. Y will be performing dermabrasion for at least 5 more years, I wouldn't plan my 2nd one just yet because I AM happy right now with my skin.. but since Dr. Y IS 70 years old now and I don't want any other doctor to do dermabrasion on me.. I'm planning on getting another full-face next year.. Dr. Y is the only doctor I will trust with my skin.. Hopefully, one will do for you.. Take care smile.gif

Photos of Poe...

I'm on broadband and I can't see them either. I believe it might have something to do with being behind a firewall (I am).

For all of you who have had a dermabrasion with or without Dr. Y... what was prescribed for pain in the following days after the procedure? Anything at all? I'm thinking of asking Dr. Y to prescribe Hydracodene which I think is like a strong Tylenol 4. Kiki's face looks like it was in sooooooo much pain. It's weird to see her say it wasn't painful.

Well i talked with my dad and he really put things in perspective, i explained to him how i only think about my face and my scars, and that i don't mind acne cause acne goes away, but scars are forever. And so i'm going to get a full time job and get this over with hopefully on december, cause basically i am not living, i am stuck at home miserable, and i don't want to remember myself this way.

I feel as if only one can know how bad one feels, and only one can make the decision to do this. I must say i feel a little worried but if i plan to do anything on my scars it will be with Dr.Y for sure, i'm already developing the photos to see what he says and i'm going to see how much time i have to schedule a derma before hand and the punch floats. I am hoping he will spot treat cause i don'thave scarring all over. Well let's try and keep this thread alive until we all go thtough the procedure smile.gif

To Poe and LOVE: How much time until all of your swelling completely subsides? Will your scars be more visible when all the selling has gone down?

PAIN? wink.gif

Hi...

Believe it or not, I was in ZERO pain. None, nada, zip. I went out to dinner and had a great time several times during those days when it "appears" I was in major discomfort, but in reality, I felt fabulous.

The lack of pain is most likely due to the combination of the Vigiion dressing and the steroids. Whatever the reason, pain was a NON issue.

Of course, I'm sure Dr.Y would oblige to any Rx that you requested, if for nothing else to reduce any anxiety about it.

Smiles,

Kiki

Hello all.. Wow, I didn't realize so many people were having problems viewing my pics on here.. I uploaded them through Chris' uploader in the Lounge.. hehe, next time, I'll use another server.. Thanks Misty for reposting them up for everyone who couldn't see them! I know, I don't like the pinkness but I rather have this for 3-4 months than have my old scars back!

Hi Emma.. Well, right after they took off the dressing.. there was still some swelling but that same night, the swelling that you can see subsided A LOT.. Dr. Y says ALL of the swelling(the non-aparent one) will dissolve around 3 weeks.. and I'm at 3 weeks now.. My scars look just a TINY bit more visible right now than 1 1/2 weeks ago.. but not too different.. I don't think it will start looking worse and worse.. I think it will probably get a bit better with the collagen building up in the next 6 months to a year so I'm happy bb_eusa_dance.gif

Poe is definetly right about those photos: The Now ones dont look as good and the before pics might tone down the scaring a little... I think Poe is a hottie now and i thought she was hot then... I never thought her scars were a big deal... but i know it DID bother her. (I am one of Poe's close friends who has gotten to see her progress first hand) Now that she got her dermabrasion done the reason i think it doesnt look as different as it truley is in the pics is because of the coloration...

She had me feel her cheeks and it feels SUPER smooth the only thing is that where the scars were before the pigment is slightly pinker but there is NO depth to them. I read a little about the derm posts before she went to get it done and i was SO surprised how quick and well she healed and by the results. Because of the fact that she is obviously more sensititve about her own face than anyone else in the world sometimes she worries a little that it wasnt that great of results... but as for me and her other friends we all think it looks awesome and most of the time it doesnt look pink at all to me its just when she has been doing some kind of strenuous (however that is spelled) activities that her face gets a little flushed but even then i dont think it looks bad.
