Hi falnhart - You really think I could have another dermabrasion 6 months after the first? I always thought a minimum of one year was required in between dermabrasions (something to do with collagen, I believe). I'll certainly discuss it with Dr. Y. Unfortunately, I too have read that more than one dermabrasion is usually required for optimal results. But I really don't think Dr. Y will be around for that. If all goes well, I'd like to schedule a dermabrasion for December, or perhaps late November. I'm going to do my darndest to keep my acne under control, so Dr. Y can focus solely on my scars. I'm beginning to stress out about the time constraint, though - definitely not good for the skin. In any case, your post gives me some hope! Thanks!
Confettied, Yeah, I'm positive. He told me during my visit there a month ago. -6 months- It makes sense because the dermis, the deepest of the skin layers affected by dermabrasion, is completely healed within 3-4 months. If Dr. Y. practices for at least 2 more yrs., I'll have 4 rounds of this. There was a lady from Los Angeles who had "8" dermabrasions and now has flawless skin, dr. Y. and his nurse, Cassandra, said. Like you, I'm stressing over the time constraint, not only because he will eventually retire, but because I'm now 25 and my life has been on hold, and will continue to be on hold, until my skin is restored. I had Co2 laser 8 yrs ago to no success, and regret that I did not know about Dr. Yarborough all these yrs. Where the hell was I.
Guys,
In my opinion Doctor Y, God willing, will be around for a good while yet. Yes it is important to get in as quickly as possible due to the need for possible more than one procedure but I see him practicing, at least in regards to dermabrasion for as long as he is able.
Kiki - I can't tell you how thrilled I am with your progress - it is fantastic. Thanks so much for posting with all this info and photos.
Just as a question - does anyone have any idea if dermabrasion would be effective on body acne? My worst scarring is across my back, shoulders and chest, and it is very severe, so I think dermabrasion would be one of the only procedures from which I would get any results. I don't know of any surgeons performing dermabrasion in the UK, though.
Has anyone had dermabrasion done on any area other than the face? If any of you could pose this question to Dr. Y at your next appointment it would be much appreciated.
This thread is great - it's nice to see a thread that is so positive!
Hi Love,
Your photos are awesome! It really looks painful on the first pic I will probably faint if I see myself that way. How long did you wait to wash your hair? What about your face? Wow, after 2 weeks though, you looked definately ready enough to be @ work, etc. I am curious to know if you have make up on in the last pic at 13 days!!
I can't believe the improvements. They are amazing. I am planning to send Dr. Y a letter w/photos. I live in L.A. so I want to be sure that dermabrasion can be done on my olive skin before I spend money traveling to New Orleans.
Gee, you would think that since I live in L.A. I would have access to the best. If your not getting implants, or liposuction, they could care less. he he he
I did it!!!! I made an appointment!!!!! Sept 27 2004 will be my day for a full face dermabrasion with Dr. Y!!!!
I didn't exactly convice my dad that Dr. Y is the ONLY Dr. to do this... but, thank goodness my mom is on my side!
Dr.Y's office person is so nice and told my mom everything I needed to know and do and where to stay...
Now I'm looking up cool things to do in NOLA - I will get there 3 days before the derma. If anyone can recommend things to do I would appreciate it!
I will keep you posted!
so happy, so happy.. happy happy joy joy!!!

18 yr old female
heavy rolling scars all over face except forehead and chin.
sydney.... too bad you're getting it done so early I go in Nov and then again in Dec.
If you wanna eat, and you wanna eat a lot, and you wanna eat good, "Court of Two Sisters" is a famed restaurant in the quarter.... a lil pricey so do the lunch buffet, you'll never see a larger buffet for as long as you live. They have a jazz quartet too.
Nite life, plenty of it in the city that never sleeps.... I'd go to Pat O'briens, Club Razoo, are a couple I like. All of Bourbon street is happening really so you can kinda just hop around.
The Riverwalk is on the waterfront (duh) and there is the Aquarium of the Americas there and an IMAX theatre plus shops and food and whatnot.
If you like to gamble, there is the land based Harrah's casino on Canal Street.
Royal Street in the French Quarter is loaded with antique shops.
Prolly taking a stroll around the French Quarter would be nice, there are a ton of shops and little hole in the wall kinda places... around Jackson Square you could have your tarot cards read if you're into that. THere are usually stree performers around the catherdral too. If you like coffee, you should try Cafe DuMonde ... right around the cathedral, can't miss it. If you do stop there you have to get fried beignets.
New Orleans has a "House of Blues" so you might catch someone good playing there on your weekend.
Thats all I can think of right now... www.nola.com is a good website for more info on New Orleans.
portlandboy23:
What is the weather like in November and March? Heat, humidity and I don't mix very well. Cooler northeast climate suit me better. Anyway, I am planning a consultation and a punch graft session either in the first or the second week of November for two days. If things go well I will return in March and stay for about 8 to 10 days. Are any of the places you mentioned close to Dr. Yarborough office?
cooler northeast climate suits me better too, hence the reason I moved to Portland, Maine
Nov. is good down in LA..... I'd say temps in the 60-70 range .... not soo soo humid, but LA is always humid.
March, hrm... different story, kinda hit and miss.... could be cool ... could be hot and muggy. Louisiana summers begin at the end of Feb and run through Dec.
A few questions if some of you don't mind:
1)How are you paying for this?
2)Did you send a picture first?( did you use instant or develop it at photo center etc.)
3)Does Dr.Y suggest what to do trough the phone or do you have to go in for him to say what is appropriate?
4)I was told by a member here Tricia that he will do spot dermabrasion, is anyone else doing spot treatment?
5)Where are you buying the plane tickets?( i am from Puerto Rico and looking for the lowest fares)
Thanks!
Hi. I was just dealing with the photo issue too, so thought I'd share this. I was really worried about having photos developed and then going to pick them up. I found that you can take digital photos and have them developed on the internet through Kodak ($0.29 per 4x6 print), and shipped to you.
amnesiac- i am seeing dr y in a mont to begin my punch floats, but will probably go see him sooner just to discuss everything. i think i will require 2 dermabrasions to get good improvement, so what im think im going to ask himt o do is: have him do spot dermabrasion in october (my scars are only on one cheek) , and then 6 months later, (or whatever time frame he recommends) have a full face to make sure everything is even, an to make sure the scarred areas are improved as much as possible. that way it wont be quite as expensive as 2 full face derma's, yet ill get the benefits of 2 full faces, as he will be going over the scarred areas twice.
